Where my dry skinned girls at??
If your skin is like mine and enters ashy overdrive in fall, you probably need all the moisturizing help you can get. When Mother Nature chills out, and your skin dries out, grab a tube of Bath and Body Works’ new True Blue Spa Shea Cashmere Shower Cream ($15), stat!
New to Bath and Body Works
Part of the new True Blue Spa Shea Cashmere body care line, Shea Cashmere Shower Cream softens and soothes through a combination of moisture-rich shea butter, cashmere extract (think goat hair), and other ingredients. The six-piece collection includes the Shower Cream ($15), as well as a Body Cream ($17.50), Body Lotion ($16.50), Bubble Bath ($18), Hand Cream ($14.50) and Foot Cream ($15).
Weird Consistency but Smells Fab!
The cream’s consistency freaked me out when I first squeezed the tube because it looks just like curdled milk. Eeeew… Good thing it smells better than it looks. In fact, the warm caramel scent reminds me of dulce de leche ice cream.
Immediate Results
Shea Shower Cream forms a very fine foam in the shower rather than lots of big bubbles. It feels kind of like washing your skin with lotion. Immediately after rinsing I felt a difference in the softness of my skin. I toweled off and, after letting my skin dry out for a bit, saw that my skin didn’t look as ashy as before.
Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa Shea Cashmere Shower Cream
Price: $15
Use: A body shower cream to clean, soften and moisturize skin
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
I’m not abandoning my go-to body wash, Neutrogena Rainbath Shower and Shave, but for the time being Shea Shower Cream rules my shower roost (it’s actually a small ledge above the tub, lol!).
Puppy Love
I’ve been missing Shauna a lot lately. She’s the family’s dog and lives with my folks in the East Bay, so I don’t get to see her very often. I guess that missing her is why I’ve been compelled to snap pictures of every random dog in my ‘hood.
I ran into these two cuties in front of the Safeway across the street as they waited for their person. I love how the one in front looks so serious, like he’s thinking about calculus.
It looks like it’s going to be a crisp and sunny fall day today. I’m going to see if I can squeeze in a quick run before I head to work. Gotta take advantage of the clear weather before it disappears for a while.
Have a fab Wednesday! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

“Hoooo!”
Yea I have dry skin annnd Keratosis Pilaris, the little red bumpies on the back of the arms and thighs. Can’t wait to try the body wash.
Amanda says
Oh, I’ll have to try this, sounds divine….plus while I’m dry I can also be lazy and don’t always moisturize like I should.
Love, love, love the chanel posts. You mentioning going to the grocery store in Chanel tweed totally reminds me of a simpson’s episode, where Marg finds a chanel suit at a thrift store, starts wearing it everywhere, etc, etc. It’s pretty funny. I don’t know if you watch the simpsons.
If you need a puppy fix, let me know. While mine aren’t puppies any more they are still cute. I haven’t done a recent photo shoot so I need an excuse, LOL. And even with 2 dogs at home I still stop, look, pet and talk to most dogs I see. 🙂

The skin below my neck is somewhat dry but not yet alligator dry 🙂 Your description is hilarious: “curdled milk” hahaha. The pooches are so cute, they look like hunting dog. And yes, the first one looked like he was doing calculus in his head (or thinking about chasing chickens, who knows!)

Hi YadiQ,
I do the same thing. I’ve named all the dogs in my ‘hood that I always see walk by my door. There’s Cinnamon and Amber (the twins), Thug Life the Pitbull and my nemesis, Shifty McIntyre the Jack Russell terrier (he chased me once, it was terrifying).
Diva totally looks like she’d make you her servant! LOL! Gotta love that about cats…
Tabs is going through this phase where he keeps showing his love by biting. It’s SO ANNOYING. My swatching arm is TOW UP.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
HOLLA BACK at your alligator girl!
Sometimes I wish the Bay was more humid… that would so save my skin. Sure, my hair would go nuts, but at least the dryness could be kept in check.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Girl, you can always send me pictures of your puppies (and your cat!). You gotta show ’em off, ya know?
🙂
I haven’t seen that episode of the Simpsons, but that is so something I’d do!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
I am so with you there in the dry neck department. Do you have a good face cream to remedy the sitch?
Okami says
Holla! I have dry skin, too. Cracking, peeling aligator skin at best, and cracking deep enough to bleed on my hands. I live with a tube of my Clinique Deep Comfort Body Moisture always close at hand. I’m thinking of trying their moisturizing bodywash, too. I live in Colorado, high elevation and really low humidity, but it hasn’t helped me much to be in high-humidity areas like Arkansas and Louisiana. I think some peoples’ skin is just plain incapable of hanging on to moisture on its own.
I hear you on the doggie-lovin’, too – I’m allergic and can’t have pets of my own (which makes me want to cry, seriously!) so I love getting to run into dogs and cats when I’m out. My parents just got the cutest little puppy (a lab/rotweiler mix) who was lovingly adopted by their 13 year old lab/doberman mix. They’re adorable together.

Hmm, something like that could be really helpful for my legs, which get crazy dry, but the rest of me is too acne prone! Woe is me!

Hey Karen! Forget dry, this half- black girl gets ashy!! I will have to give this a whirl! Their regular. True Blue Shower cream sucks!! I currently use Dove Go Fresh (waterlily and freshmint) with Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lotion. I wanted to try the oil version but ever since New York used it on New York Goes to Hollywood its been MIA.Sorry that was random!!

LOL Karen, the calculus remark had me chuckling in the middle of class. (Granted, I’m not actually saying that I check your blog during lectures. No ma’am, I’m *far* too good a student to do that. :D:D)
I use my beloved Jojoba oil on my skin when it’s dry, though it never reaches the point of ashy, fortunately. However, I have to apply the oil at night, because it takes way too long to absorb to be used in the mornings.
Does Tabs ever get jealous of your doggie pictures? 😛 He totally shouldn’t (his photo albums own), but, just in case…

I’ve been wanting to try True Blue Spa, they have a shea hand cream with spf too!

Aw, I’m feeling you on the dog-love. When a dog is tied up outside a store, I have been known to go up to it and give it a good petting!
I’m glad I found your blog. I always buy makeup that doesn’t work out for me, and I needed a good review site to give me good leads!

Hi Karen,
This may be off topic, but I am trying to create a graphic for my high school project and I am desperate to know what font you use on your pictures? I am looking for that handwritten font. Would you mind sharing? Thanks so much in advance!

The packaging looks so nice! I so wish there was a Bath and Body Works here so I don’t have to pay those crazy shipping prices *sigh*
Anyway, I curled my hair today, and first off, Nexxus Heat Protexx smells REALLY NICE..I don’t really know how to describe it though..a cross between some luxurious shampoo and loreal kids? I don’t know, it smells great though. So, first off, my hair is VERY straight and thick so it’s really hard for me to curl my hair. Well, I noticed that my hair became more straight faster than when I don’t use anything (no hairspray either) On Saturday, I curled my hair without hairspray and Heat Protexx but the results lasted longer than today. (Today I used Heat Protexx and no hairspray) But it seems like it protected my hair, my hair is still shiny (except the ends because I haven’t cut my hair in a year or so).

Hi Okami,
I really like Clinique face moisturizers, but haven’t thought to try their body stuff. I’ll give that a look next time I’m at the mall. 🙂 BTW, have you tried their Moisture On Line face cream? I can’t live without it when winter sets in.
How cute that your parents’ older dog adopted the lil’ pup! Awwww! If you live nearby you should take as many pictures as you can. I have this old puppy picture of Shauna on the fridge when she was just a tiny thing. The cuteness is almost too much to bear!
Karen says
Hi Jaimie,
Yeah they are! I wanted to hang out with them for a bit, but I had to hurry and get some stuff for dinner.
Hope you’re having a good week!
Karen says
Hi Almira,
Ahhh, I was wondering what kind of dogs they were! I love how their faces are so very serious!

Hi Tania,
Girl, I thought I was the only person guilty of watching that show. Isn’t Taylor Made hella lame? He’s just not man enough for her…
Karen says
Hi Elena,
Wow, it’s been years since I’ve been in school so it’s really hard for me to fathom having the internet in class! During my senior year in college nobody had a lap top and people carried big ass pagers. LOL, the stone ages… it was rough! Are you liking your classes this year?
I think Tabs gets a teensy bit jealous. I took a bunch of random pictures of this cat I saw in the parking lot today at work. I showed the pics to him on the computer (he likes to hang out on my desk while I type), and he looked a little peeved.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
True Blue Spa has some really nice items. I usually get distracted by all the new smelly stuff at the front of the store, but I always make it a point to go to the section to see what’s there to lust after. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Fleur,
LOL, I totally feel the same way when I see them outside of stores too. Do you ever talk to them? I do that all the time… it’s only embarrassing when the owners catch me!
Glad to hear that you like the site! I always like trying new things so I’m happy to share finds with ya!
Karen says
Hi Stephanie Ramirez,
Hey girlie, I wish I could say that was a real font — it’s actually my hand writing!
Karen says
Hi Lindsay,
Oh yah!! I forgot you guys don’t have one! Last time I was there I heard that you were getting one… or maybe that was Victoria’s Secret?! I can’t keep track of my store rumors.
Hmm, I wonder if that stuff has some “setting” properties. It sounds like it is good for getting some hold. Back in the day when I would use a curling iron to curl my bangs I’d do all sorts of trickery to get them to keep the curl, like spraying the hair first with hairspray and then using the curling iron. It kept the curl but damaged the heck out of my hair. I still remember the scent of frying hair in the morning… damn the 80s were rough.
Anyway, have you tried sleeping at night with your hair in a French braid? I do that sometimes and in the morning I get really nice waves!

I know the feeling of missing your doggy-love. Makes you want to give every strange dog a hug and in doing so the poochie you are missing feels your love from afar.
Like that 60s hippie song went… “If you can’t be with the dog you love, love the dog you’re with!”

Hey Karen,
I know, my area back home was slow to get ‘net when I was growing up, so having it so available everywhere is a drastic change for me, too. My classes are good, thanks for asking. 🙂 I could do without the fact that I have three – yes 3! – projects due at the end of week TWO! Gah!
LOL @ Tabs. He knows he’s #1. My dog totally gives me the stink eye when she senses I’ve been playing with other animals at my friends’ houses. Nothing a head rub can’t fix. 😛
Karen says
Hi Jannie,
The funny thing is that she used to totally be *my dog* when I lived at home. I’d walk her, give her baths, take her to the vet and everything. When I moved out of my parents house she opted to stay at home rent free (ha!) and now she is CLEARLY my dad’s pup. She’ll still go nuts when she sees me, but I know where her loyalties are… they are to the person who feeds her every day!!! 🙂 Do you have pets?
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
My day was kinda rough… just a million things to do at work all at once. It’s that time of year when the checks come in, which means I get to spend my time crunching numbers all day, gah!
How was yours?
Karen says
Hi Elena,
Ahhh! Good luck with your projects. I’ve found that when there’s multiple projects to tackle at once one thing that helps is to stay *very* organized! You can do it! 🙂
Aren’t animals funny? I swear I think they can read our minds sometimes. 🙂

OMG, YOU’RE LUCKY CAUSE MY HAIR JUST TURNS INTO FRIZZ!

Hi Karen,
I just use my regular Olay moisturizer but it feels a bit slimy. Body lotion also works but there’s no firming effect in it. Do you have any suggestions?

I purchased the shower cream(half price after Christmas) and currdled milk is right. I turned my nose up at it when I first used it. I kept thinking it was lotion rinse off in the shower because mine has yet to lather up LOL. Whats that all about?
