I *wish* I had Mariah Carey on speed dial because I’d ask her if she had something to do with the name Bath & Body Works gave to their new limited edition spring fragrance line.
Doesn’t Butterfly Flower sound like something she would have come up with? 🙂
You know, she has that obsession with butterflies, rainbows, Hello Kitty, glitter and all things fourth grade that makes me wonder (still lovin’ ya, Mimi!). Hmm…
I don’t know about you, but I always look forward to new BBW fragrance releases because I never know what to expect.
New for spring, products in the Butterfly Flower fragrance collection of gels, lotions, baths and creams ($5-$30 each) pack notes of freesia, mimosa flower and honeysuckle. Those are what I detect, but here’s the company’s official breakdown of the fragrance:
Butterfly Flower
Top notes: Black tea, tangerine, cyclamen (a flower), banana leaf
Middle notes: Orchid, Asian syringa flower, French mimosa
Base notes: Creamy coconut milk, musk
BBW’s floral blends can sometimes overwhelm my sensitive nose, some even smelling overly synthetic on my skin. I usually prefer their crisp, clean scents like Rainkissed Leaves, but Butterfly Flower is lighter than most of their floral fare.
I’ve been testing three of the items from the 16-piece collection…
- Shower Gel ($10.50): BBW recently revamped their shower gel formula, and I think it’s much more moisturizing now. They also changed their packaging, which I like because the new curvy bottles are easier to squeeze with wet, slippery hands in the shower. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
- Body Lotion ($10.50): Like the shower gel, BBW upped the moisture in their body lotions, too. The new formula feels less greasy, and of the three new products I’ve tried, this one’s my favorite. The mimosa flower, freesia and honeysuckle notes really pop here. This version of the fragrance works well for me. It’s strong but stops short of tickling my nose. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
- Fragrance Mist ($12): I like the changes to the shapes of the other bottles, but I wish BBW hadn’t changed the bottle for the Fragrance Mist. The new one looks kinda cheesy to me, and the mist’s interpretation of the Butterfly Flower scent was my least favorite of the three (it delivers a strong burst of alcohol). Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C
I like the texture and performance of the new BBW body lotions and gels (and some of the changes to the bottles), but with the exception of the Body Lotion, the Butterfly Flower fragrance doesn’t knock me off my feet.
For a limited time, Bath & Body Works has the Butterfly Flower products for sale online. Buy any two and get the third for free.

I smelled it, and it’s not my favorite, either. (Actually, I haven’t bought anything from there in forever. I used to love Moonlit Path–do they still make that?) Anyway, when I went in to smell the new fragrance, the salesguy asked me if I needed help, and I said, no, I just wanted to check out the new scent. Then he proceeds to keep standing there staring at me with a creepy grin on his face, and asks me how I like it! They usually leave you alone for a while. I was so irritated (and mildly freaked out) that I turned around and walked out without looking at anything else. I might check it out a second time, since my first try was interrupted.

Hi Stacie,
How creepy!

LOL, gotta love Mimi and her cheesy thang for butterflies!

I’m devastated. The one thing that I love from B&BW is their Mandarin Lime hand wash, and they’ve discontinued it! I’ve been searching for a replacement, but nothing else is quite right. =/

Hi Catherine,
Oh no! I hope you can find some backups… maybe ask the store folks if they have some stashed in the back?
Kelly says
I don’t remember a Mandarin Lime, only a Mango Manderin and a Coconut Lime Verbena, both still available. The Mango Manderin is my fav for the kitchen sink.
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
I love the Coconut Lime Verbena scent. I hope they don’t discontinue it.

I actually like this fragrance! It works on me. I like the “tea” scents. I haven’t tried the lotions or shower gels though. I’m using the Vanilla Noir shower gel and it’s really delicious though!
Karen says
Hi Nadrah,
Aww, I wish I could get the tea notes to come through for me!
Dao says
I smelled it while I was at BBW last week, the fragrance is quite underwhelming. It’s not as memorable as other scents that BBW have but it’s a softer scent. I didn’t sneeze so that was a good thing 🙂

Hi Dao,
Yah, I like the cleaner scents… the single note florals are nice, too. The mixed ones tend to be hit and miss for me.

Oooh, I bought the small trial size when it first came out, I really love it. Whenever I use out & about everyone always asks me what it is.
Karen says
Hi Kimberly,
It’s a very feminine scent! Do you get any of the notes of the black tea and coconut?

I was’nt fond of butterfly flower, but I do like moonlight path and optimism(I dilute this one).
I miss their violet special addition for Mother’s day a whild ago.
Karen says
Hi Sakura,
I like Moonlight Path, too. It smells soothing…

Honeysuckle was my absolute favorite til it was discontinued so then I started wearing butterfly an now it’s gone ugggh…does anybody know where o could find either of the two?
Colette says
I was on the website a few days ago and they have a bunch of the retired scents back for a limited time for $6, online. I think I remember seeing the honeysuckle when I was looking for my pear berry .
