Clarins must have designed their spring 2009 Nature Temptations Eye Colour Palette ($40) to tempt makeup lovers ruthlessly and without mercy. Floral embossed eyeshadow pans, a sexy silver compact and six hard-to-resist spring colors (get a load of that teal, AYE!) — it’s like tempting a dog with bacon!
Resistance appears futile, homies.
But check it: this palette is one of the best deals you’ll find this spring. Clarins set the price at $40, which at first glance seems expensive, but once you crunch the numbers the Nature Temptations Palette turns out to be a total bargain.
Swatches with flash
The palette contains six large pans of shimmery eyeshadow. Clarins mixed in three neutrals (tan, pink and peach) with three brights (plum, violet and plum), providing a balance of practical and fun shades. And like all the other Clarins eyeshadows I’ve tried, all six layer and blend to perfection, never appearing heavy or cakey on the skin.
A little quick makeup math reveals that the eyeshadows in the Nature Temptations Palette cost less per pan than any other eyeshadow Clarins currently sells. 🙂
Swatches without flash
Clarins sells eyeshadows in single pans for $20 each and in quads for $40 (versus $80 if four pans are purchased separately).
Nature Temptations stretches your dollars even more. Since you get six colors, each one breaks down to $6.60! Plus, I think the pans in the Nature Temptations Palette are a little larger than the pans in the regular quads.
Further Clarins Eyeshadow Research…
With six colors, there are endless possibilities for eye looks. I played with two this morning…
1. I started with violet on the lid and a slice of teal eyeshadow on bottom lash line.
2. Then, I switched it up with some plum. If the pastel look above says “I’m fun,” then this plum look says to the world, “I am a responsible citizen who pays my bills on time, yo.”

It’s limited edition, so if you’re lusting after this palette you should get your hands on it soon. I really hope Clarins continues to release seasonal palettes like this one in the future because they’re such a great deal.
Irony…
I’m on this stair stepper machine kick, so last night I worked it out for a while at the gym.
When I got home, I could barely climb the stairs to my front door, LOL! Oh, the sweet irony. Exercise to get fit = can’t climb the stairs to get home. 🙂
Anyhoo, how’s your Wednesday going? I hope it’s raging!
Off to class…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I need to check out Clarins…I had a really bad experience with them about 5 years ago and have refused to even stop at the counter since they totally screwed me over. Maybe I’ll give them another shot…
I like the looks you did Karen!! Very pretty 🙂

Wow, the packaging is so beautiful!!! I love the plum!

Hey!
Saw this at one of the Shopper’s Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques in Vancouver at the beginning of the month. I swatched, and *almost* bought it on the spot, but told myself I needed to save for my Hello Kitty haul!
In Canada, this palette is much more than $40. I can’t remember exactly how much it was, but I know my neck would have probably snapped off if it was $40. I’m guessing it was at least $60. It doesn’t say on the Clarins.ca website, either…in fact, you can’t even get to the page that features this palette. It’s a “routing” error or something. *sigh* Anyways, I’m glad you like!! 🙂

Ooh, that is really cute! Love the purpely bluey look 🙂

It has not been a happy Wednesday. First, it rained. Then, when it finally looked like the sun might peek out, it starting SNOWING. It’s still snowing. Have I mentioned how much I hate snow? It’s worse than rain, in my opinion. It’s white, it’s cold and it sticks around.
Let’s not forget I slept absolutely poorly last night so I’m all weird and cranky from fitful sleeping. My brother has us all peeved (we won’t go there). Add that to the bad hair day, shaking legs from using my asthma inhaler (quick weather changes reap havoc with my lungs) and you have yourself a very bad Wednesday.
The only good thing that happened today is I was able to pet Zena on the ginormous pillow I sewed for her via the sewing machine (no, it’s not straight. believe me, but she does like it). Petting Zena always makes me feel a tad better. Taking a nap with her would be better but she’s snoozing with my mom currently.
That teal is uber bright. It doesn’t appear bright in the case but it’s definitely bright on your hand! It looks more aquamarine than teal. The plum is pretty. I’m wearing HiP Kohl Linear in Teal so we must be thinking somewhat alike with the teal thing.

Hi YadiQ,
That’s so great! Congrats on your weight loss. 🙂 I know you’ve been working hard on your fitness so you go, girl!
I am convinced makeup bribery is the way to go when it comes to working out. 🙂
Oh, your eye sounds really cute. I love using the gold shade from Lucky Tom in the inner corner. It’s a instant brightener.
I’m off to dance class… I hope to get my sweat on!
Karen says
Hi Shefali,
Oh no! That’s too bad. I hope that if you go back that they treat you better. The line does has some good stuff. 🙂
How was your day? It finally stopped raining here so I was happy to see some sun!
Karen says
Hi Nadrah,
It’s gorgeous, huh? 🙂 When stuff looks pretty it’s so easy to fall in love.
Karen says
Hi KristyQ,
It’s a great palette. But yah, HK’s so darn cute! I ran into a friend today and she told me she ended up buying everything, even the lil’ doll!
Karen says
Hi Briana,
It’s super cute! If you like to wear blues and purples I think this could be fun. 🙂 Happy Wednesday!
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Oh no! Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad day. I hope that it gets better for you tomorrow. Give Zena a big hug for me. 🙂
Karen says
Hi ParisB,
OOoOoohh girl, you gotta start with the eyeshadows, for sure! 🙂
Kate says
I’m hoping it does too. It’s supposed to be cold tomorrow but at least no snow. Then again, we are talking the Midwest here so anything can happen.
Zena gives a paw twitch as she’s sleeping. 😀
Karen says
Hi Kate,
I gotta give you Midwesterners props. I don’t have the weather heartiness that you guys do. It goes into the 40s here and we all freak out!
Aww… Tabs sends a purr!
Kate says
Ha, ha, I’m actually not a true Midwesterner. My parents are but my brother and I have grown up in one other country and five different states. I’m in a winter coat when it’s 40 degrees. Natives look at me like I’m nuts because they’re in sweaters or fall coats and I’m bundled in my fuzzy winter jacket possibly wearing gloves and a scarf depending on the wind. I get enough weird looks around here when I do talk as I have a subtle Texan accent and some of the lingo left over from living in Texas.
Kizzy says
OMG, that teal is so pretty! But I don’t like how blue-ish colors look on dark skins…kinda trashy 😮
Shouldn’t the pics be switched? (to match the descriptions)

Hi Kate,
Sounds like you’ve had an interesting life. I’ve pretty much lived in the Bay Area so I wonder sometimes how it would be to live in another country) or even another state!
What country did you live in? Did you enjoy living abroad?
Catherine says
Oh wow – I’ve never looked into Clarins makeup before, but that compact alone is gorgeous! It’s too bad I already have most of those colors scattered around my other palettes though… =/ I’m trying really hard not to buy more of the same colors, haha. ^^;;
Kate says
My dad was US Army, hence all the moving around. I lived in what was then known as Western Germany as the Berlin Wall was still up. I lived there until I was 2 and a half so I remember so little.
Marisol says
Those are some gorgeous colors! Definitely a good deal from Clarins.

Hi Catherine,
Yah, they make some really fun compacts in surprisingly edgy colors. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Oh wow. That’s cool. I’ve have a friends in the military and so I know that military families are always on the move. I have often wondered how it must be to pick up and start school in a new place so I imagine it must’ve been challenging.
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Yes! It’s a totally great steal! I hope you try it. 🙂
Kate says
Challenging is a good word for it. I would have used traumatic and confusing. I can truthfully say I hate moving. 😀
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Ugh, I hate moving, too. From the time I was 19 to about 26 I moved NINE TIMES! It sucked every single time, LOL! I bet that it was much harder for you, tough, especially when you had to switch to new schools.
Where I live now is the most “still” I’ve been in years. It’s weird to finally feel like a place is home. Since you moved around so much, is there a town that you identify as home?
Kate says
You’re almost up to the amount of times I’ve moved. I’ve moved ten times. In some three states, I moved twice from one house to another. The good part is I’m a very good and efficient packer! The last time I moved was when my dad left active duty and went into the reserves. Reserve soldiers can’t live on military bases so we moved from Great Lakes Naval Base to where I live now.
I’ve lived here for nearly ten years so this in a way is home. Honestly though, if you asked me where I loved living, I have to say Texas for the heat and Colorado for the gorgeous mountain skyline. I woke up everyday to see the mountains in the west. Now, if there were a place that had a gorgeous mountain view yet never went below 50 and still in the States, I’d want to move there.
I hate where I live as there’s no mountains. It’s all hills or flat farmland. It’s very boring in terms of scenery unless you go to the forest preserves, lake preserves or the public gardens. Even then, the preserves are nothing like the mountain forests of Colorado. You may enjoy the piece and quiet until you round a corner and hear the busy road on the other side. You can’t really get lost in it all as the more civilized world is always there pulling you back.
Lisa says
I think the blues and pinks would be stunning on brown eyes (mine of course). It makes me want to open the sun roof, open all the windows and go for a spring drive (with my favorite sunscreen Ti-Silk). Great contest. Happy colors!
Tanya says
Hi Karen,
Those shadows like great on you and the palette looks so pretty! Would the colors suit someone a few shades darker with a warmer skintone (think Freida Pinto)?
