Yes, I made it out of the Land of Aloha with more than handmade, cold process soap! For starters, I brought home this bag of red coconut ball candy:
It looks kinda scary, but trust me — this stuff is great (if you like coconut). One could easily devour a bag in a single sitting. Um, not that I’d know…
Besides crazy technicolor sweets, I also brought home a tube of Pineapple Lip Balm ($3) from a local company called Hawaiian Bath & Body.
They’re a natural bath and body company from Oahu’s North Shore with an extensive product line of lip balms, handmade soaps (surprise!), bath salts, body washes, body mists, body oils, lotions and scrubs.
Pinapple’s one of six balms in Hawaiian Bath & Body’s Lip Balm line (there’s also Coconut, Sugar Cane, Ocean Mint and unscented Kukui Nut). Its light pineapple taste and scent are downright yummy, and the balm’s soft texture glides easily onto my lips.
To top it all off, it’s moisturizing as all heck! I wore it on the plane ride home yesterday (damn that dry, recycled air!) and my lips stayed hydrated the entire time.
Oh, yeah, on a whim I put some on my cuticles, too, and it softened ’em like a charm.
PRICE: $3
AVAILABILITY: At select stores in Hawaii, the US mainland and online

ohh hey that’s a good idea! (using lipbalms on my cuticles. I can put some of the lipbalms I don’t like to good use that way). I want to try those red coconut balls xD
Karen says
It really works! Try it on your cuticles before your bed at night. It’s especially good on raggedy toe ones.
As for the coconut balls… er, I just ate half that bag!
Molly says
Mmmmmm… this sounds a LOT like the lip balm I got at Kona resort in Hawaii a few years back (except that it’s got the resort logo and whatnot on it instead of this label.) Sooo good and well, BALMy. Takes me to the beach when I put it on.
UPDATE: I found the balm, and the ingredients are even listed in the same order! Wonder if they use this exact brand?
Karen says
Hi Molly,
LOL: re BALMy. You know I love me a good pun.
Hmm, maybe this is the same line, but with different packaging? Is yours kinda melty and soft?

Those coconut balls look good! I’m happy you’re back, guest posts are fun every once in awhile, but I come to the blog daily for you. I may not even be interested in the product but I most anyway just because you crack me up!
Karen says
You’re so sweet, Angel. It’s great to be back! I rarely take a break from the site, so it was nice to spend some time with El Hub and his fam.
I still hope you enjoyed the guest posts, though. 🙂 I feel lucky to have friends to fill in whenever I need a little break!

I don’t know which one I would eat first- the lip balm or the candy! I always love a good lip balm to soothe the lips (and soul). Will check out that site now!
Karen says
Hi Jen W,
I hope you find something you like! The site has a lot of nice pictures of the North Shore, btw. Love that are!
Kim says
Welcome back!! 🙂
The lip balms sounds very yummy. My superbalm is just not cutting it on my winter-dry lips so I’m going to be on the hunt for something a little less pretty, but more moisturizing. But just at the local drug store… though finding the perfect lip balm would be a nice excuse to go to Hawaii. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kim!!
Thanks for the warm welcome back!
Re: moisturizing lip balms, have you tried Philosophy’s Kiss Me? It’s really moisturizing.
Ruchita says
Mmm, pineapple lip balm sounds good! I would go for the coconut as well. I’m using lip balm and hand lotion like crazy with this dry winter weather, so it’s nice if it smells like something tropical. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Which hand lotions have you been using? I’m always looking for new ones!
Nina says
that lipbalm sounds absolutely delish! 🙂

LOL! I just got back from the Chinese place across the street with my Hawaiian Chicken w/ Pineapple. I was so tired, I thought I’d never decide what I wanted, but then I realized I was craving pineapple. The lip balm will have to wait until my next craving.
PS: Pancakes with drained crushed pineapple are SO GOOD. They are my favorite way to make them, barring traditional fresh blueberries.
Karen says
Hi Auroragyps,
I’ve never had pancakes with pineapples before. So do you just put ’em in the batter? Or do you top them with the pineapples?
auroragyps says
I put a bit of the pineapple on the uncooked side of the pancakes, after I’ve poured them into the pan and let them cook a bit. How much you put depends on how big your pancakes are, but for one about 4′, I put about a tablespoon. After the first side is done, you flip them, cook the other side until it’s done and nom, nom, nom with maple syrup.
So good. I might have to make these this week, since I just opened up a can of pineapple tidbits that are not much bigger than crushed.

Ahhh I love coconut…I convince myself that it’s fiber and therefore good for me.
Karen says
Fiber’s a good thing (I can’t get enough of it, personally, LOL!). Coconut juice is supposed to be good for ya, too.
And sadly, I’m almost done with that bag of candy!
