I have combination oily/dry skin and have been using Aveeno’s kick arse moisturizing lotions for years (“Ahhh, Aveeno!”). I expected a lot when I found out the company plans to release a new hair care line this April.
Nourish+ contains what Aveeno calls Nourishing Wheat Complex (LOL, reminds me of my endless quest for fiber), a compound that targets damaged hair.
A few days ago I started my testing, running Aveeno Nourish+ Revitalize Shampoo, Nourish+ Revitalize Conditioner and Nourish+Condition Leave-In Treatment ($7 each) through their paces.
The marketing said I’d see results in just three washes — that’s an incredible claim, right? — with the product supposedly working by zeroing in on the weakest part of the hair follicle and then depositing just the right amount of proteins to make hair look and feel stronger, softer and shinier.
Three washes?
Softness, shine and volume: check!
Well, three washes later, and the verdict’s in: I do see an increase in softness, shine and volume.
But in terms of damage repair, I think it’s harder to tell. Even though my ends are dry, I didn’t have many split ends to begin with, and I haven’t really seen a visible change in hair strength. I’m glad to see that the products haven’t made the situation worse… That’s always a good thing.
The change in softness and shine were both obvious enough for me to notice, and for that I’m sold on Nourish+.
A clean, fresh scent and fewer knots
Beyond the added softness and shine, all three products are excellent detanglers. Since I started my Nourish+ regimen, brushing my hair has been easier. I have fewer knots and have been seeing less hair go down the drain in the shower.
Like most Aveeno products, these don’t have an overwhelming scent, but they do have a faint one that reminds me of a toned down Mr. Bubble bubble bath, LOL! My hair smells fresh and clean but not overly perfume-y.
Nourish+ Revitalize Shampoo and Conditioner, $7 each
For basic cleansing and conditioning with added softness, shine and fewer knots, the Nourish+ Revitalize Shampoo and Conditioner shine. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
Nourish+ Condition Leave-In Treatment, $7
I also liked the Leave-In Treatment, but it didn’t blow me away. It’s a liquid, spray-on conditioner, and I felt like I had to use too much a lot to thoroughly coat my hair. Leave-ins with a thicker, gel-like consistency seem to work better for my dry hair, but if you just need light conditioning, you might give it a try. I sure do like the scent. I’m sold Karen. This one sounds good to me especially since I have similar black hair like yours. 😉

Oh! I would like to give this a try since my Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco Shampoo and Conditioner is almost through. How would you compare the two? 🙂
Well, seems like the rain is back, so that always makes for an entertaining evening walk home from class 😛 I can’t believe that it’s already March! I mean, where did the time go???
How was your day and how has class been? I hope it’s been a good one! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ponikuta,
I hope you like it when you give it a try. It’s nice for a drugstore hair care set… plus the smell is quite yum!
Maggie says
i’m gonna have to try this out!
i’ve been searching for a shampoo that gives shine and smoothness, do you have any other suggestions besides this?
i’ve seen a lot of the bloggers on youtube using garnier fructis, is that one good? thanks for the review! i always enjoy them. 😉
Karen says
Hi Lesley,
I use Creme de Coco Shampoo and Conditioner, too, so I’d say that this is a comparable drugstore equivalent without the divine chocolate smell. Creme de Coco for me is a detangler with medium to light moisture, and the Aveeno stuff works in the same way. 🙂 I think you might like it!
I here you with being shocked that it’s March already. Didn’t we just celebrate New Years? 🙂
My day flew by super fast — I have to do a lot of juggling on Monday and Wednesday to get everything I need to get done, but at least I’m busy, right? I’m glad it’s time to relax now… Right now I’m getting ready watch The City on MTV.
How was your day? And what class did you have?
Karen says
Hi Maggie,
For drugstore stuff, I also like Aussie Opposites Attract Shampoo and Conditioner. It smells good, leaves my hair shiny and smooth, and only costs a whopping $3! I reviewed it a few months ago, you can check out the full review here.

Oh! This is exciting. I’ve just started blow-drying my hair after I got my hair cut on Saturday, and my hair ends have definitely seemed drier lately. I’ve been using Tresemme’s volumizing formula, and while I love TBS Volumizing one, it’s just too expensive right now when it’s not BOGO, so I’ll definitely look into this. =)
Camellia says
i love aveeeno<33 i must try this out (: thanks for reviewing
Camellia´s last blog post..EOTD
Karen says
Hi Catherine,
Cute! What does your new style look like?
A few years ago I was addicted to blow drying my hair. There are a few things I’ve used in the past that I’ve noticed help to keep the dryness in check. Lemme know if you want any product recs or tips. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Camellia,
You’re welcome. What’s your favorite Aveeno product?
Shefali says
Hey Karen! Thanks for the review. This sounds really exciting. I like Aveeno products alot and have been searching for a new shampoo. Question: I have oily hair. Do you think this will be too moisturizing?
YadiQ says
i have been looking for a shampoo and conditioner that i could swap with my curl concious stuff ( PRICY!!) i hope i can find this stuff around here
i just think the healthy curls line from suave has been discontinued i am having trouble finding it anywhere !! 🙁 BOO
i actually tried your spring look today with similar products – i used the urban ammo palette from urban decay and i used bourbon ud eyeliner in stead of underground – i love it made me feel a bit better from my cold!
Tammy says
I have to try this…I try a ton of brands, but Aveeno is like your favorite blanky..always there, always reliable..lol
Stephie says
Thanks for the review. I will definitely check it out once it hits CVS. Too bad about the leave-in conditioner. I’ve heard great things about the neutrogena hair mask/ deep conditioner. Just waiting for it to go on sale 😛
Melissa says
Sounds like an awesome product line. I’m hooked on my Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo, but that’s because I got a great discount when I worked at a salon. Well, no more discount for me, so I may have to try the Aveeno. My hair gets so dry in the winter, even in Hawaii. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Shefali,
I think you’ll be okay. I noticed that both products didn’t feel very heavy on my hair and my roots weren’t flat, either (which is what heavy conditioners do to my hair). I’d say that both were moderately moisturizing.
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
Oh your eye sounds PRETTY! I need to get my grubby hands on a UD palette… gah!
Okay, so this is kinda random — do you remember old school Pumping Curls from L’Oreal? I used to love that stuff!
Karen says
Hi Tammy,
LOL, that’s so true, especially when it comes to their lotions.
Karen says
Hi Stephie,
I’ve heard good things about that conditioner, too.
Do you ever go to Sally Beauty Supply? They have a deep conditioner by L’Oreal called Nature’s Therapy that works pretty well, too. When my hair was fried a few years ago I used it all the time.
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
Oh, no doubt! When El Hub and I go back to visit his family I always make sure to bring a tube of heavy conditioner to combat all the damage from the sun and sea.
Whereabouts are you from? Do you live on Oahu?
YadiQ says
omg pumping curls i used to think that stuff was the shizzzz
lord knows it didnt work properly with my hair in hindsight lol but i thought my hair was banging with it back in the days lol lol
whoa! that brought it back !
you totally have to get the urban ammo palette and the deluxe shadow palette totally worth every penny ! the urban ammo has some good color based “neutrals” that can go subtle to dramatic! some have glitter in them but its not too chunky so we dont look like teeny boppers lol your always my “pusher” and now i am yours UD PALETTE UD PALETTE !!lol i made a pretty good knockoff of your spring look if i do say so myself lol ! can you tell i am chipper today lots of meds kicking in
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
RIGHT? I always had a bottle in my locker. Remember how 80s the packaging was, with the scalloped bottle and primary color designs? LOLOL! I’d spray on SO MUCH of it, too.
Okay, I’m totally down with you being my UD palette pusher. I have been meaning to go to Sephora so hopefully when the rain finally goes away I can get it. Are you gonna bring the palette with you on your trip?
I am feeling pretty chipper, too — I have been trying to stay away from coffee for a few days and today at 2:15 I just couldn’t take it any more and gave into a cup and it tasted SO GOOD. Now I’m feeling WHEEEEEEEEE!

HI there! What a great review!! I already use many aveeno body products and am pining for this line already for a month!! April can’t come fast enough. Do you know what stores will carry the entire line? Like your typical drugstore (CVS,walgreens, target, walmart?) or any websites? Thanks
bailey22
Stef says
Thank you so much for reviewing this line from Aveeno! I love love love their moisturizers and lotions and I can not wait to try out the haircare line!!!
Karen says
Hi Steph,
You’re welcome!
I love Aveeno’s moisturizers, too. Which one’s your fave?
Karen says
Hi Bailey22,
Yup, you’ll be able to find it at typical drugstores! 🙂
Glad that you liked the review! It’s always nice to meet other fans of the brand. Do you like their body stuff or their face stuff? I’m a big fan of the lotion myself.
Melissa says
Hey Karen,
I just moved to Honolulu 2 months ago with my BF, who’s in the navy. Originally from Connecticut, and I was just living in Virginia. I love it here so far. Let me know when you’re in Oahu…we can go to Ala Moana and shop for makeup. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
Oh nice! 🙂 It’s a wonderful place to be, huh? Do you guys live on base?
I could get lost in Ala Moana for hours. When you get the chance you should head to the Chanel counter at Nordie’s. They have lots of cool overseas exclusives you can’t find anywhere else in the US. SO cool!
Hopefully El Hub and I will make it back there soon! I’m missing warm water something fierce.
Hope you’re having a good day so far. 🙂
Melissa says
Hey Karen,
I’ll have to check that out. thanks.
We actually just got an apartment in Chinatown. Man is the food good!
And I just did my 1st photo shoot on the beach last night. It was so totally exciting. 🙂
p.s. I love your blog. you must have so much fun with it!

OMG – this stuff is AMAZING! I received a free sample in the mail, used it this a.m. and I am stopping at my local drug store TODAY to get the full-sized bottles. I have some dry ends….damage from a highlight gone wrong and I also use a flat iron to smooth my hair. Today I didn’t even have to use the flat iron at all – and my hair has so much SHINE I am totally sold on this product.
TRY IT – YOU WILL LOVE IT!
