Right now it’s raining like the powers that be left the shower on upstairs, but I’m not letting the wet weather get me down. Assisting me today in my pursuit of perkiness are this hot pink ribbon…
…and Tabs, who sent me the following text from his iPhone.
Woman, I’m in the mood for something bright. Tie this thing around my neck before I swipe your ankles.
Love ya,
Tabs
P.S. Real cats wear pink.
I usually just roll my eyes and click DELETE when he sends me crazy texts like this one…from upstairs, but I derive great joy from seeing him bop around the house in bright colors, so I was happy to oblige.
Doesn’t the ribbon go well with these bright new Rouge G de Guerlain Serie Noire Jewel Lipstick Compacts ($46 each)? They’re part of a new four-piece limited edition lipstick line released for spring.
Rouge Sensuel on the top and Fuchsia Delice on the bottom
What do ya think of the black lacquer compact? Pretty sleek, right? Each one holds one tube. Guerlain did that special for this release.
The Serie Noire lipsticks themselves shine much like the lippies from Guerlain’s original Rouge G line do, but I think they’re sheerer and not quite as opaque. They do layer well, though, so if you crave more pigment from them, you could always add a layer or two.
Also like the O.G. Rouge G’s, they feel smooth on my lips, but I think they’re lighter and not quite as dense. They remind me of the lipstick/gloss hybrids that have been cropping up over the past few years (like the JK Jemma Kidd Hi-Shine Gloss Sticks and the discontinued MAC Slimshines).
Guerlain gave them something they call “precious ruby powder,” or “PRECIOUS RUBY POWDER!!!” LOL! I think it just looks better in all caps. 🙂 It’s supposed to make them look extra radiant in daylight. Since it’s been so overcast outside, I can’t really tell if they’re working, but I do think my lips look smooth and slightly plumper than they did a few minutes ago. It might have something to do with the finish.
Swatch of Fuchsia Delice on left and Rouge Sensuel on right
Wearing Rouge Sensuel on lips. Additional makeup worn in this look: Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Samba-dy Loves Me, Laura Mercier Eye Kohl in Stormy Grey, Benefit Instant Brow in Medium, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base and Panthera Mascara on eyes; Benefit Sugarbomb Blush on cheeks.
I feel kinda fancy with one of these in my purse. With springy colors and cool packaging, they only seem moderately overpriced (they’re $46 a pop!). I find myself having to do touchups a bit more often with them than I’d like (they only last about two hours on my lips), but at least the mirror in the compact makes those touchups easy to do.
PRICE: $46
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman stores, and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (an A if they were cheaper)
Latest Trader Joe’s obsession
I brought this box of Pita Bite Crackers home from Trader Joe’s last Sunday, and I kid you not — it took all my willpower not to finish the whole thing in one sitting.
They’re these itty bitty baked rounds of pita bread with sea salt sprinkled on top. YUM! I bet they’d go great with cheese or dip, but I believe I shall devour this particular box au naturel.
It’s that dang crunch that makes them so addictive… I might even brave the rain tonight to get another box. 🙂
Have you tried them yet? Please say yes!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Tiffany says
Love both shades, but don’t think I could handle dropping that kind of cash on a lipstick 🙁
The pita bites sound yummers!
Karen says
Yeah, I hear you. I think the price is mostly packaging…
Anywho, the Pita Crackers are MY JAM! I can’t remember — do you guys have Trader Joe’s out your way?
Tiffany says
yeah, we do have TJ’s, but I don’t go often – they are all kinda hard to get to or have very limited parking 🙁
Karen says
I think it’s a pre-requisite for all TJ’s parking lots to be a HOT MESS. There’s always people wandering around not paying attention, cars moving really slowly and just general confusion all around.
Melissa says
Haha my TJs don’t have parking lots. But if you go on the weekends you get 800 NYU kids lined up just to get INTO the store. It’s a mess there.
The crackers sound delightful.
katie says
Agreed! They are super gorgeous though.
Amber says
I have such packaging lust for the Rouge G lipsticks, but that price hurts!
Karen says
The price is painful, no doubt! That’s Guerlain luxury for ya. It might be nice to splurge if you get a gift certificate one day.
Paris B says
No Trader Joes here unfortunately. Those look delish! And I love the Guerlain Fuchsia Delice too! Not loving the prices but that’s luxury for you 🙂
Karen says
I know, right? That’s Guerlain for you!
AnieJ says
You’ve really made me want crackers….and lipstick in STUNNING packaging! Of course, my wallet won’t recover from the tag for a good while (a girl’s gotta eat more than just crackers) but I love springy-ness of Fuchsia Delice. Will sneak it in to budget somehow….
Karen says
These crackers (and the lippies) are lust-worthy! 🙂 You’ve got to try them both.
Heidi says
The lipstick is gorgeous but waaaaay out of my price range!
I LOVE those pita crackers! They’re yummy dipped into some eggplant hummus!
Karen says
Ooh, I’ll have to try that! Nom, nom… just thinking about it makes me drool.
Tracy says
I wish we had Trader Joe’s up here! I’ve been in one and was wishing the whole time I had an RV with a huge freezer to fill up and drive all the way back to Canada!
The case is just so cool looking! Love Rouge Sensuel on you!
Karen says
If you guys ever get a store let me know… I’ll hook you up with a long list of TJ’s must haves. 🙂
Rae says
Mmm, those look just delicious! (The lipsticks *and* the crackers, LOL.)
P.S. I’ve been loving the grassy-background product photos you’ve posted over the past few days – the lighting in your corner of the world looks gorgeous!
Karen says
Thanks! It’s been overcast lately… perfect for pictures!
Rae says
So jealous! When it’s overcast in Edmonton, it’s usually just… dark. 😛
Karen says
It gets dark here but not too dark in the daytime. The light’s nice here, but it’s REALLY nice in Napa Valley, which is a stone’s throw away. It’s buttery and golden in the spring and summer.
vonnie says
that compliments you so much! looks incredible on your lips, very moisturizing looking
Karen says
Hi Vonnie!
These feel super moisturizing. 🙂 Have you worn them before?
Cara Smith says
Gorgeous and moisturizing, too!? I can’t wait to try these lippies! 🙂
Karen says
They’re a lot of fun and fab if you’re in the mood for a splurge.
Cassy says
Um, need those crackers. Totally more than the lipsticks even. Why does the closest Trader Joe’s have to be an hour away?
Karen says
When you do make it out to the store at least you can snag a few of boxes without having to worry about them going bad for a while. I’d buy, like, ten. LOL!
Tiffany H says
Both shades look awesome on you! The packaging alone makes me want them.
Karen says
The packaging is really luxurious. It’s one of the things that Guerlain’s really great at. 🙂
mahnaz says
wow karen, panthera mascara looks so great on you. i had gotten it from sephora but it didn’t work out so well for me. i recently got fairy drops mascara and am really hoping that it will be phenomenal after all the rave reviews I’ve read about it. did you try that yet?
Karen says
Hi Mahnaz,
It took a few tries with Panthera (the brush is kinda tricky) but I’m glad I eventually figured out a system that works for me. How do you use the brush? I do one or two layers with the short stubs, and then follow it up with a layer applied with the longer bristles.
mahnaz says
lol i don’t think i thought about it that much, i mean the brush and it’s various bristles. I just wiggled it in and didn’t get any volume or extraordinary length. I think so far, the best mascara i have used is maybelline falsies. My lashes looking amazingly long and thick enough…I always get a ton of compliments BUT it kind of flakes after a few hours of wear which I am not in love with.
Have you heard about the fairy drops at all? Haven’t tried it yet!
Karen says
The brush really is the key. Take a close look at the bristles and try playing with the different sides. Nope, haven’t tried Fairy Drops!
mahnaz says
Did you get your bite lippies yet? really excited to read your review on that!!! 😀
Looks like a very interesting line.
mahnaz says
Oh and just to be on topic, the Rouge G’s look veryyyy shiny and moisturizing. Looks lovely on you. They seem a lot like the Chanel rouge coco shines but with more colour pay off.
Makeup Morsels says
Just dropped by Trader Joe’s after school today, but I couldn’t decide what I wanted to get (too many temptations argh) so I left empty-handed. I always die a little bit inside when I see the Rouge G packaging…SO GORGEOUS! I can’t even decide which shade I like better.
Karen says
Go back for some Pita Crackers! And some Baked Cheese Crunchies. And some Jumbo Raisins…
Vijaya says
The price isn’t really a problem for me, but I really hate the packaging. I feel it’s both wasteful and too big/heavy. xP
Karen says
I like it! I like the weight and think it looks elegant.
snoopysteph says
Those crackers would go perfectly with TJ’s 7 layer dip!
Karen says
Good call!
gio says
Love the pink lipsticks, but not so much the price. That’s expensive!
Those crackers look delicious!
Karen says
It is, but if you’re in the mood for a splurge it could be fun.
Nika says
Haven’t tried the pita bites yet! Nor the new lipsticks! I want, but too expensive. 🙁 The pita bread, I mean. 🙂
Karen says
You have to at least try the Rouge G’s some day. They’re pricey, but oh-so-luxurious!
Kim says
That compact is sweet and definitely the price-driver for the lipstick. 🙂 I actually have tried the Pita Bite Crackers and they’re yummy. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s but at xmas time, one of our sales reps in NYC sends the office a care package of tons of TJ’s stuff and, this year, it included the Pita Crackers. And, on a side note, that little box is only 6 oz. It’s barely enough to fit in your back tooth! Eating it all in one sitting is completely acceptable. 😉
Karen says
Did you like the Pita Crackers? 🙂
Now that I think about the box is kinda small… and the crackers are baked so I feel less like a glutton, haha!
Kim says
I did! Though I’m more of a fan of the Snap Pea Crisps (I literally horded that bag in my office). I tend to like the very seasoned, salty snacks. I’m the person who’s excited about the crushed chips at the bottom of the bag. 🙂
See? Small box and baked – that’s the spirit!
Karen says
OOH! I love those. Did you have the Original or Ceasar Salad flavor? The Ceasar Salad ones are the best! I can finish off a bag in one sitting.
Nina says
goodness gracious – those lipsticks are hawt! but the price makes my eyes tear up, not to mention my wallet!
i can haz pita crackers plzzz naoooo!!!
Karen says
Oh gosh those crackers are SO good. I’m craving them right now (and it’s only breakfast!).
Nina says
go for it! 🙂
Faye says
They look gorgeous . . . I can never resist Guerlain! Sigh. I see another unnecssary makeup purchase in my immediate future :).
Karen says
Haha! That’s the story of my life right there in a nutshell.
LorraineER says
Those lippies look fabulous on you! It’s been overcast here lately too..where are you from? (I’m sorry if you said this recently and I missed it!)
Also, did your Sephora package arrive yet? I hope it did because I know you were excited for it, plus I cannot wait to hear what you think of Bite and hopefully see some swatches! I’m lusting after most of the matte lip pencils and the pot rouges…
Karen says
I’m from the Bay Area! Yup, the Sephora package arrived yesterday afternoon, huzzah!
Mandy says
I have not tried the Pita Bite Crackers yet… but the good news is that a Trader Joe’s opened in Des Moines (here in humble Iowa, haha) and I will be making a special trip out there tomorrow JUST for these crackers!! They sound right up my alley.
Karen says
They’re delicious! While you’re there grab some Baked Cheese Crunchies and Honey Greek Yogurt too.
Tara says
I haven’t tried the pita crackers yet, but I do love the TJ’s Pita Puffs. Crunchy little pillows of goodness!
Karen says
Ooh. I’ve never heard of those! Are they crackers too?
Tara says
I’d say they are more like chips, at least thats how I eat them! They are little squares of pita that puff up thin and crispy when they are cooked. I definitely recommend them!
Karen says
Hmmm…. sounds interesting! So, you have to cook them? That may take me out of the equation, LOL!
Tara says
No, no cooking involved. They are ready to be overindulged in right out of the box!
Natalia says
Rouge Sensuel looks like a cool red, or does it flatter warm skintones as well?
Elana says
I adore both colors…too afraid of the orange. Luckly, my husband understands and supports my need for these beautiful lipsticks, both the formulas, as well as the luxe packaging. I feel like a queen every time I apply… And thats OFTEN!!!
I. Am. VERY. Lucky.
Lucie says
I’m so sad that these lipsticks are so sheer and glossy. I love the fuschia colour and the packaging, but like a much more dense texture in a lipstick and can’t justify paying $46 for a pretty case. Have you tried the regular rouge g’s? I really want one but didn’t like the original kisskiss lipsticks (too slippery) and am afraid those would be the same way! What do you think? I’m fond of lipstick formulas more like the Chanel Rouge Allures.
Meta says
Aaarrrrgghhh!! They look so great on you! Here in Australia we’re only getting the Orange Euphorique 45 and the Fucshia Delice 70. I was hoping we’d get the Rouge Sensuel 24 also…but I do love the black packaging! Makes it look edgy somehow.
applepark says
I love Rouge de G’s! They are pricey but it’s a small price for feeling really luxurious. I got a few engraved for Christmas gifts a while ago. I gave one to my mother with “MOM” engraved on it, and I did one with my initials on it. It feels so fancy to be so personalized.
Sara flemmIng says
I just bought the orange euphorique shade today for my sister in law. Great bday gift and she loved it!
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Precious Ruby Power sounds like a cat name.
I reeeeally want the red one, but it’s so expensive! Argh! I suppose I will have to lust after it from afar…
Ali says
I love how you tied the pink bow on Tabs! sooo cute! I do the same to my guinea pigs for holiday photoshoots 🙂
