Aren’t the New Rouge G de Guerlain Serie Noire Lipstick Compacts Serie-ously Cute?

Rouge G de Guerlain Serie Noire Jewel Lipstick Compact

Right now it’s raining like the powers that be left the shower on upstairs, but I’m not letting the wet weather get me down. Assisting me today in my pursuit of perkiness are this hot pink ribbon…

…and Tabs, who sent me the following text from his iPhone.

Woman, I’m in the mood for something bright. Tie this thing around my neck before I swipe your ankles.

Love ya,
Tabs

P.S. Real cats wear pink.

I usually just roll my eyes and click DELETE when he sends me crazy texts like this one…from upstairs, but I derive great joy from seeing him bop around the house in bright colors, so I was happy to oblige.

Doesn’t the ribbon go well with these bright new Rouge G de Guerlain Serie Noire Jewel Lipstick Compacts ($46 each)? They’re part of a new four-piece limited edition lipstick line released for spring.

What do ya think of the black lacquer compact? Pretty sleek, right? Each one holds one tube. Guerlain did that special for this release.

The Serie Noire lipsticks themselves shine much like the lippies from Guerlain’s original Rouge G line do, but I think they’re sheerer and not quite as opaque. They do layer well, though, so if you crave more pigment from them, you could always add a layer or two.

Also like the O.G. Rouge G’s, they feel smooth on my lips, but I think they’re lighter and not quite as dense. They remind me of the lipstick/gloss hybrids that have been cropping up over the past few years (like the JK Jemma Kidd Hi-Shine Gloss Sticks and the discontinued MAC Slimshines).

Guerlain gave them something they call “precious ruby powder,” or “PRECIOUS RUBY POWDER!!!” LOL! I think it just looks better in all caps. :) It’s supposed to make them look extra radiant in daylight. Since it’s been so overcast outside, I can’t really tell if they’re working, but I do think my lips look smooth and slightly plumper than they did a few minutes ago. It might have something to do with the finish.

Additional makeup worn in this look: Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Samba-dy Loves Me, Laura Mercier Eye Kohl in Stormy Grey, Benefit Instant Brow in Medium, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base and Panthera Mascara on eyes; Benefit Sugarbomb Blush on cheeks.

I feel kinda fancy with one of these in my purse. With springy colors and cool packaging, they only seem moderately overpriced (they’re $46 a pop!). I find myself having to do touchups a bit more often with them than I’d like (they only last about two hours on my lips), but at least the mirror in the compact makes those touchups easy to do.

PRICE: $46
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman stores, and also online

Latest Trader Joe’s obsession

trader joes pita bite crackers

I brought this box of Pita Bite Crackers home from Trader Joe’s last Sunday, and I kid you not — it took all my willpower not to finish the whole thing in one sitting.

They’re these itty bitty baked rounds of pita bread with sea salt sprinkled on top. YUM! I bet they’d go great with cheese or dip, but I believe I shall devour this particular box au naturel.

It’s that dang crunch that makes them so addictive… I might even brave the rain tonight to get another box. :)

Have you tried them yet? Please say yes!

Karen

Love both shades, but don’t think I could handle dropping that kind of cash on a lipstick :(

    The pita bites sound yummers!

    • Karen says:

Yeah, I hear you. I think the price is mostly packaging…

Anywho, the Pita Crackers are MY JAM! I can’t remember — do you guys have Trader Joe’s out your way?

      • Tiffany says:

yeah, we do have TJ’s, but I don’t go often – they are all kinda hard to get to or have very limited parking :(

        • Karen says:

I think it’s a pre-requisite for all TJ’s parking lots to be a HOT MESS. There’s always people wandering around not paying attention, cars moving really slowly and just general confusion all around.

          • Melissa says:

Haha my TJs don’t have parking lots. But if you go on the weekends you get 800 NYU kids lined up just to get INTO the store. It’s a mess there.

            The crackers sound delightful.

    • katie says:

Agreed! They are super gorgeous though.

  2. Amber says:

I have such packaging lust for the Rouge G lipsticks, but that price hurts!

  3. Paris B says:

No Trader Joes here unfortunately. Those look delish! And I love the Guerlain Fuchsia Delice too! Not loving the prices but that’s luxury for you :)

You’ve really made me want crackers….and lipstick in STUNNING packaging! Of course, my wallet won’t recover from the tag for a good while (a girl’s gotta eat more than just crackers) but I love springy-ness of Fuchsia Delice. Will sneak it in to budget somehow….

I wish we had Trader Joe’s up here! I’ve been in one and was wishing the whole time I had an RV with a huge freezer to fill up and drive all the way back to Canada!

When you do make it out to the store at least you can snag a few of boxes without having to worry about them going bad for a while. I’d buy, like, ten. LOL!

wow karen, panthera mascara looks so great on you. i had gotten it from sephora but it didn’t work out so well for me. i recently got fairy drops mascara and am really hoping that it will be phenomenal after all the rave reviews I’ve read about it. did you try that yet?

    • Karen says:

      Hi Mahnaz,

It took a few tries with Panthera (the brush is kinda tricky) but I’m glad I eventually figured out a system that works for me. How do you use the brush? I do one or two layers with the short stubs, and then follow it up with a layer applied with the longer bristles.

  12. mahnaz says:

lol i don’t think i thought about it that much, i mean the brush and it’s various bristles. I just wiggled it in and didn’t get any volume or extraordinary length. I think so far, the best mascara i have used is maybelline falsies. My lashes looking amazingly long and thick enough…I always get a ton of compliments BUT it kind of flakes after a few hours of wear which I am not in love with.

Have you heard about the fairy drops at all? Haven’t tried it yet!

  13. mahnaz says:

Did you get your bite lippies yet? really excited to read your review on that!!! :D
Looks like a very interesting line.

  14. mahnaz says:

Oh and just to be on topic, the Rouge G’s look veryyyy shiny and moisturizing. Looks lovely on you. They seem a lot like the Chanel rouge coco shines but with more colour pay off.

  15. Just dropped by Trader Joe’s after school today, but I couldn’t decide what I wanted to get (too many temptations argh) so I left empty-handed. I always die a little bit inside when I see the Rouge G packaging…SO GORGEOUS! I can’t even decide which shade I like better.

  20. Kim says:

That compact is sweet and definitely the price-driver for the lipstick. :) I actually have tried the Pita Bite Crackers and they’re yummy. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s but at xmas time, one of our sales reps in NYC sends the office a care package of tons of TJ’s stuff and, this year, it included the Pita Crackers. And, on a side note, that little box is only 6 oz. It’s barely enough to fit in your back tooth! Eating it all in one sitting is completely acceptable. ;)

    • Karen says:

Did you like the Pita Crackers? :)

Now that I think about the box is kinda small… and the crackers are baked so I feel less like a glutton, haha!

      • Kim says:

I did! Though I’m more of a fan of the Snap Pea Crisps (I literally horded that bag in my office). I tend to like the very seasoned, salty snacks. I’m the person who’s excited about the crushed chips at the bottom of the bag. :)

See? Small box and baked – that’s the spirit!

        • Karen says:

OOH! I love those. Did you have the Original or Ceasar Salad flavor? The Ceasar Salad ones are the best! I can finish off a bag in one sitting.

  21. Nina says:

goodness gracious – those lipsticks are hawt! but the price makes my eyes tear up, not to mention my wallet!

i can haz pita crackers plzzz naoooo!!!

  22. Faye says:

They look gorgeous . . . I can never resist Guerlain! Sigh. I see another unnecssary makeup purchase in my immediate future :).

  23. LorraineER says:

Those lippies look fabulous on you! It’s been overcast here lately too..where are you from? (I’m sorry if you said this recently and I missed it!)
Also, did your Sephora package arrive yet? I hope it did because I know you were excited for it, plus I cannot wait to hear what you think of Bite and hopefully see some swatches! I’m lusting after most of the matte lip pencils and the pot rouges…

  24. Mandy says:

I have not tried the Pita Bite Crackers yet… but the good news is that a Trader Joe’s opened in Des Moines (here in humble Iowa, haha) and I will be making a special trip out there tomorrow JUST for these crackers!! They sound right up my alley.

  25. Tara says:

I haven’t tried the pita crackers yet, but I do love the TJ’s Pita Puffs. Crunchy little pillows of goodness!

  26. Natalia says:

Rouge Sensuel looks like a cool red, or does it flatter warm skintones as well?

  27. Elana says:

I adore both colors…too afraid of the orange. Luckly, my husband understands and supports my need for these beautiful lipsticks, both the formulas, as well as the luxe packaging. I feel like a queen every time I apply… And thats OFTEN!!!

    I. Am. VERY. Lucky.

  28. Lucie says:

I’m so sad that these lipsticks are so sheer and glossy. I love the fuschia colour and the packaging, but like a much more dense texture in a lipstick and can’t justify paying $46 for a pretty case. Have you tried the regular rouge g’s? I really want one but didn’t like the original kisskiss lipsticks (too slippery) and am afraid those would be the same way! What do you think? I’m fond of lipstick formulas more like the Chanel Rouge Allures.

  29. Meta says:

Aaarrrrgghhh!! They look so great on you! Here in Australia we’re only getting the Orange Euphorique 45 and the Fucshia Delice 70. I was hoping we’d get the Rouge Sensuel 24 also…but I do love the black packaging! Makes it look edgy somehow.

  30. applepark says:

I love Rouge de G’s! They are pricey but it’s a small price for feeling really luxurious. I got a few engraved for Christmas gifts a while ago. I gave one to my mother with “MOM” engraved on it, and I did one with my initials on it. It feels so fancy to be so personalized.

Precious Ruby Power sounds like a cat name.

I reeeeally want the red one, but it’s so expensive! Argh! I suppose I will have to lust after it from afar…

I love how you tied the pink bow on Tabs! sooo cute! I do the same to my guinea pigs for holiday photoshoots :)
