Ahhh, the last day of 2007. I always get a little sad when I know something is coming to an end; I guess it’s the thought of a part of my life ending and knowing I’ll never be able to go back (unless I drop $10 million for those time travel plans on eBay).
When I started this blog, I never imagined how much fun it would be. This year has been, to quote my eighth grade East Bay self circa 1989, “hella cool.”
Dita Von Teese – Interviewing MAC Viva Glam spokesperson Dita Von Teese at the Macy’s Passport fashion show was a trip. She was so stunningly beautiful and I was so nervous. The other day, I listened to the audio recording of the interview and laughed because I even SOUNDED sweaty.
Paris Hilton – The Dita experience really helped, though, when the time came to interview Paris Hilton for the release of Can Can, her new perfume. It was a level of celebrity that I’d never experienced before — body guards, press folks, rabid fans foaming at the mouth. It was the first time I’d interviewed a really high profile celebrity AND the first time I had to do it in a room filled with people watching me. What a learning experience.
SF Fashion Week – But my favorite event of the year was hanging out with MAC backstage at SF Fashion Week. I fell in love with a few products, learned a lot and met other beauty bloggers, like Erika and Christine.
Laura Mercier – There was plenty of Laura Mercier love last spring.
Tokidoki bag – The Tokidoki bag fit all my stuff AND rocked my world.
Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash – Unfortunately, I experienced getting pimples on my butt for the first time. Fortunately, Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash saved my ass (pardon the pun).
43 makeup things – Thanksgiving was an excuse to eat turkey, wear stretchy pants and think about the 43 makeup things I’m thankful for.
43 non-makeup things – Thanksgiving also provided an opportunity to give thanks for everything else.
Chanel Glossimers – I became a fiend for Chanel Glossimers.
Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple – And Purity Made Simple simply rocked my world.
Chanel Garden Party Quad – Chanel’s National Artist John Fussell helped me fall in love with the Chanel Garden Party Quad, and now there’s no turning back!
Smashbox’s Lori Taylor – Smashbox’s Lori Taylor gave some backstage tips from L.A. Fashion Week.
Billy B. – I met and interviewed one of the nicest guys in the beauty biz.
MAC’s awesome Louise Zizzo – Louise Zizzo saved me from myself when the MAC Mattene collection came out.
Celebrity makeup artist Bruce Grayson – Bruce Grayson’s makeup tips from the Emmy’s red carpet.
Dear Makeup and Beauty Blog – I heard from Shy in Chi-town.
Guide to Smart Clubbing – You asked for tough love, and in the Guide to Smart Clubbing I gave it to ya (hey, I’ve had a lot of practice).
Curiositease – And my number one makeup love, MAC, didn’t let me down.
Pigments and Glitters – Remember when I was grouchy about Pigments and Glitters?
MAC Loose Beauty Powder – I fell in love.
Smoke Signals – It rocked my world.
MAC Mad Libs – We had a lil’ fun together.
MAC Mattene lipsticks – Where’s my plaid shirt and my Pearl Jam CD? MAC Mattene lipsticks took me back to the 90s.
A quick smokey eye with MAC shadow – Oh, this is old school.
But the best thing that happened to me this year was meeting all of you. It’s been fun getting to know you and learning about your lives. You’d think that it would be hard to make a connection behind a computer screen, but sometimes I feel like we’re all just having a cup of coffee together and gabbing about makeup.
I hope you make the most of this fantastic last day of the year!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Well, 2007 rocked as the year that I discovered beauty blogs in general and Makeup and Beauty Blog in particular (September as I recall)! Since I’ve started commenting and chatting here, it has become an integral part of my day! Thanks for the cheerful and welcoming format, and for making everyone a part of it! I really feel like I’ve made a whole new circle of girlfriends even though we’ve never met in person! Thanks to all of you ladies and gents who make this blog what it is, and a special big fat thank you to you, Karen, for making it all happen!
Happy 2008 and Cheers to y’all! 🙂

I was looking for some more MAC sites of course – on the Internet and somehow out of many ended up choosing Temptalia. The road turned out to be straight and simple from that point on.I clicked on your name (out of pure curiosity) and things have started rolling…. I have found another fantabulastic blog, written with kind and fresh sense of humor as well knowledge and love for makeup.
What else can a girl want (if you already have so called El Hub and lots, and lots of MAC? and paid off mortgage – hehe)?
A girl wants to read something witty and sassy and reasonably written in English….Today MABB became an integral part of my day.If don’t read at work then read at home….
Congratulation Karen and keep up the great work 🙂
Thanks again girl 🙂
Happy 2008 to all of us!
Sandy says
Happy New Year 🙂
Your blog is the best!! 😀 Beats every other blog like Temptalia. Hehe..
I hope 2008 brings you more success & everything you have been hoping for. Hoorah!!
Reading them links making me want Laura Mercier products. It looks good 🙂 Chanel glossimers are good. Chanel lip products lasts long 😀 It’s 5 thumbs up for me. The 2007 product of the year for me is the Diorshow mascara. It is my HG 😀 Now I’m searching for a liquid foundation .. hehe =P
Once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR KAREN. ALL THE BEST IN THE FUTURE.
Love you xoX ^^

Hi Glosslizard,
Thank you for being such a loyal reader and commenter. It’s been a blast getting to you, girl. Writing this blog is lots of fun for me and I’m so glad that it can be part of your day! Big hugs to you, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! 😀
Karen says
Best wishes and success to you (and your lovely blog!) Rowena! Can’t wait to see what great things you do in 2008. Have a safe and happy new year – see ya in 2008!
Karen says
Hi Madeleine,
I agree, beauty blogs are totally addictive reading (Christine’s is one of my faves too!). Thank you so much for your well wishes! This blog thrives on devoted readers and I appreciate that!
Happy New Year and all that good stuff! Stay safe and have fun!
Karen says
Hey Sandy!
I can’t wait to learn more about the Chanel lip products, they seem pretty great! As for liquid foundation, have you ever thought about trying stick foundation? I used to be a liquid foundation/tinted moisturizer kinda girl until I discovered Becca stick foundation, which is pretty phenomenal. I guess it all depends on what sort of coverage you want, but if you need any recs feel free to ask away.
Have a wonderful New Year and a successful and joy filled 2008!
TUPRNUT says
Happy New Year, Karen and all the Makeup and Beauty Blog readers!
I’m glad I found this a few weeks ago and can’t imagine going on with my day without a few peeks here and there. It’s such a great break for me and it’s been so much fun to get tips and ideas from you, Karen, as well as the rest here!
Can’t wait to see what ’08 has to offer my makeup bag…. the best to all of you in 2008!
Karen says
Hi Turpnut!
It’s been so fab getting to know you. Thank you commenting and reading and for just being the cool girl you are. Are you ready for some fitness in 2008?!?! (I’m eating a banana right now instead of the caramel corn, sigh).
Success, luck and all the best to you and your family (maybe you’ll make us all Aunties with baby #2!) in 2008. It’s going to be a great year 🙂
Mrs. Lynne says
Karen. It’s only been a short while but I really feel like we’ve been friends more than that. It does feel like we’re just having coffee and chatting like we’re rekindling a long lost friendship.
Happy New Years to you and El Hub. May 2008 be prosperous in all departments for you two. Keep up the great job with this lovely blogging machine you’ve got going. You’ve inspired me to take my writing to a whole new level and hopefully not just an obsessive hobby but a possible career avenue. Thanks for everything love 🙂 Malasadas and Baskin Robbins are on me when you visit!
Karen says
Thank you, Mrs. Lynne, for being such a fab blog buddy. I can’t wait to meet you when I’m in town. If you are getting the Leonard’s I’m fo’ sho’ buying the shave ice! WOO HOO!
Mrs. Lynne says
Are you talking Matsumoto’s Shave Ice? One of my (non-creative) shave ice faves is strawberry/banana over vanilla ice cream and (my more creative) li hing/lilikoi over ice cream… yummy! And I tried with condense milk over the top… HI!!! Can we just drool now?!
Karen says
Yum! I like plain old flavors like Orange or Strawberry with ice cream and those weird beans.
I’m hungry!
Mrs. Lynne says
Haven’t tried the ones with beans which is weird because I love bean desserts. Is there a Tung Kee in your area? They have this green bean drink and pink dessert drink that I used to order all the time. They’re really good.
Karen says
Hmmm…dunno! I’ll have to look for that.
I take it you like Halo-Halo 🙂
Mrs. Lynne says
You know it girl. I love my beans, hah. But I actually don’t like jackfruit and Ube. Kinda weird for me.
Karen says
I hate jackfruit, too! I think it’s the sliminess. I also don’t like those hard, oval, semi-translucent coconut thingies. I like the coconut strips, but not those.
Mrs. Lynne says
Yah, it’s the same for me also on the jackfruit. I actually like the coconut things. I like anything that’s kinda tough on the teeth, lol. Have you tried Haribo Gummy Bears? Those are the sh*t!! I don’t really like the square clear gelly things though. I think they’re coconut. Those are too squishy and when you finally sink your teeth into the exterior, it squirts in your mouth. Reminds me too much of Fear Factor.
Karen says
Oh, I like those square thingies. I like how they squirt in your mouth, LOL. As you can tell I like squishy stuff.
You would probably hate my guilty pleasure: Life Savors Gummies. I’ve eaten so many I’m comprised of about 2/3 of ’em.
Ahhh, Haribo Gummies! Have you had their peach gummies that are shaped like an O? I used to eat those every day when I was a senior in college and now I can’t even stand the sight of them.
Mrs. Lynne says
LOL! In that case, I probably have had nearly just as many gummy bears in me as the Haribo factory produces on a yearly basis. The peach ones are really good too. I like Gold Bears and S’ghetti. Over here is like Haribo city. They have sooo many different kinds that I didn’t even know Haribo made.
Karen says
Oh I know! I see all sorts of weird flavors at Cost Plus World Market.
How do you feel about those jello shot things that come in cups?
Mrs. Lynne says
Like those small asian ones that also come with a piece of fruit in them? I think some of the sweeter ones are good, but they’re not my first grab. I like them when they’re chilled though. Eating them room temperature just makes it a little queeze for me. Speaking of those, I just threw out a box of them that I had sitting in the fridge because I got them from my baby shower. They had baby printed boxes as table centerpieces and one of the boxes was stuffed with those.
What about cakes and cookies, do you care for those? Or are you a candy person?
Karen says
I am a big time cakes and cookies person, Mrs. Lynne. I used to bake a lot; I really enjoy it because it reminds me of chemistry lab.
But I have to start watching what I eat again (sigh). By no means do I deprive myself, but I’ll do stuff like get a fudge slice from safeway bakery and instead of eating it all at once I’ll divide it into fourths and then eat one lil’ piece per day.
Man, I miss being 22 and having a high metabolism!
Mrs. Lynne says
Karen, out of all the science classes I had, chemistry was definitely my favorite one. I used to do a lot of baking too when I was in middle school. My mom would have a lot of those baking cookbooks. I’d look at the pictures then want to try them out.
But that’s great that you’re actively monitoring your intake. That is very difficult for most. I should do that with my candy craving. My sweet tooth is really bad. I’ll just keep stuffing my face with it until I get full, lol.
Karen says
Yeah, candy is so dangerous, especially when it comes in BAGS! I can get down on a Lifesavers Gummies bag in no time flat.
I have a friend who doesn’t like sweets and I think she’s CRAZY (she craves salt).
Ohhhh you know what’s totally dangerous? Those bit sized Snickers! I can’t eat just one. It’s physically impossible.
Mrs. Lynne says
Hubbo is the same way. No sweet tooth. He’ll eat once in a while, but nothing damaging. And those Halloween bags of candy?? OMG, I’ll pick up a bag of miniature Twix and Snickers just for myself!
