Clockwise from bottom right: Nail Colour in Tauped, Nail Colour in Stop Whining, Nail Color in Taunting Teal, Nail Colour in Rock Star, Nail Colour in Starry Night, Eye Shadow Quad in Brown Eyed Girl (yes, that pan in the upper left is broken!) and Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Rosey Nude
Think about it: there was a time before Sonia Kashuk (B.S.K.). Dark days, those were. We had to apply our makeup by torchlight in caves and used reflective pools of rainwater instead of mirrors.
Okay, no, that’s not how it was, but the drugstore beauty landscape did dramatically improve when Target started carrying Ms. Kashuk’s stuff.
She made drugstore beauty cool again, and judging by her massive 22-piece winter/fall 2010 collection of makeup bags (the majority of the collection) and makeup for eyes, lips and nails, she’s still going strong.
Let’s pretend we’re walking through Target together, and we stop in the beauty aisle. Ooh! Look at those Nail Colours, that Brown Eyed Girl Eyeshadow Quad and the Velvety Matte Lip Pencil in Rosey Nude (available at Target stores now).
What do ya think? 🙂
NAIL COLOUR IN TAUPED, STARRY NIGHT, TAUNTING TEAL, ROCK STAR AND STOP WHINING ($5)
These polishes feel even better than they look with a thin, cooperative texture that’s easy to apply. They pack a lot of pigment, too, requiring just two layers to reach opaque. While the colors themselves aren’t necessarily groundbreaking, I think they’re very pretty overall. Starry Night, a shimmery silver glitter polish in a smokey black base, has, however, been speaking to my soul. It’s saying, “You’re a rock star, baby.” I haven’t been wearing these long enough to gauge wear time, but based on ease of use, price and pigmentation, these are big time bargain stars.

EYE SHADOW QUAD in BROWN EYED GIRL ($11)
Hello, glitter! If you like the Urban Decay Stardust Shadows, then here’s a quad for you. Each of its four shades — a taupe, an espresso brown, a mahogany brown and a moss green — scream “I LOVE GLITTER!” followed by a whisper of color. I like how well the glitter adheres to the skin on my eyes without any annoying fallout, but I do wish these weren’t so sheer. A little more pigment wouldn’t hurt.

VELVETY MATTE LIP CRAYON IN ROSEY NUDE ($8)
This matte pencil is like the love child of a lipstick and a crayon. Its shape makes it easy to wield, but I’m not quite sure why SK named it Rosey Nude, since I think it’s more of a bold rosey red, but I’m not complaining; the color’s hawt! It’s also a wee bit drying on my lips, but at least the formula lasts all day long.

What’s the verdict? Yes? No? I like the lip color and the nails, but I’m not all that inspired by the quad (it’s just okay).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Whoosh! I’m out the door! We’re on the way to see Let Me In. Yea! Vampires! What are you up to tonight? I hope it’s something fun.

I am liking the nail color taunting teal!
PS. I just watched Let me in(the one in Swedish) a few days ago and boy that was disturbing (in a cool way though)…

I was really surprised by the American remake. Honestly I didn’t expect to like it after seeing the original, but it’s quite good. It’s almost exactly the same story, but the acting and subtle differences work.

taunting teal and rock star look great! i may have to pick those up. that lip crayon looks a little too matte so i will skip that.
dani@callitbeauty says
love the nail polishes and ESPECIALLY the lip crayon. i agree with you on the eyeshadows, they’re incredibly underwhelming.
vonnie says

I don’t like the quad but the nail polishes are gorgoeus.
Lauren says
I liked the quad but not actually on. It’s too sheer for my taste, guess I was expecting UD level bling..
Appu says
The lip crayon looks wow! I might pick it up, but just thinking if i’ll look like a clown 🙁
Lauren says
i bought two of the nail polishes in the teal and the purple and they are so pretty. the teal one is like a peacock color and its true to bottle. love the polishes 🙂
Lindsay says
Stop making me want stuff! Your nails look fab though.
Jenn says
Ohh, the Lip Crayon looks enticing. I’d top it off with a gloss 🙂
Hope your weekend is off to a great start!

Oooh I love the lip crayon! I’ll have to keep an eye out for that. Hope you had fun at the movies!
Lauren says
Oooh, I really like that rockstar shade of the nail polish! <3

I didn’t think that I’d like any of them from the bottles, but the teal looks great on. I might have to go and find Target and get me a bottle. Ze Hubsky loves it when I wear polish because I’m lucky to have naturally fast-growing and long nails.

ooh I’m loving Starry Night and Taunting Teal. I’m definitely on a nail polish kick lately, looking to expand my small-ish collection lol. Hope you like Let Me In, I heard it was a good movie!

hey karen!
I love taunting teal, tauped, and starry night. Would you say taunting teal is similar to MAC Blue India nail lacquer? That’s one of my fav colors of all time and I’d looove to have a cheaper version of it with a better brush. =)
marisol says
Starry Night and Taunting Teal have been added to my list of items to get. How was the movie?
Liz! says
The nail polishes look awesome, I’d be more inclined to pick up the palette if it was more pigmented. I love the taupe (psh, like I need more taupe nail polishes lol) and the teal looks cool too.
Nina says
That is a pretty collection. Im likin’ the matte lipcolor a lot! 🙂

I really like the red lipstick on you, it is very pretty. I want to see Let me in, it looks like it is a pretty faithful adaptation to the Swedish original Let the Right One In. How is it compared to the Swedish one? Let us know how you like it.

Your post inspired me to run out to Target tonight and try one of the lip crayons! However, I picked one of the “Velvety Shine” ones because my lips have just been so dry lately, and I was afraid the matte ones would dry me out even more. So far, I really like it. I like the subtle vanilla-y, minty smell, and the color’s gorgeous! (I got Luscious Pink, #12.)
I’ve also been disappointed by the SK eye shadow palettes. I got last year’s holiday palette, and I was very excited because it looked so glittery and beautiful, but the colors were super sheer, and I wished more of the glitter actually made it to my eyelids. Oh well. I will forgive almost any SK sin because of her amazing $6 eyeliner brush!
Amee says
i agree wit u karen… the lip color and nail colors are superb… i think the shadows are not very pigmented…
thanks for the post honey… 🙂

I love Sonia Kashuk! Her brushes are divine. I don’t really see anything I’m all too interested with in this collection, though.
Emma says
I went to my closest Target to get the Teal and it was all sold out! Seriously, the only thing they had left was Rock Star 🙁 I wanted to cry! I hope that they get them back in soon because I had to make the trip specially as I don’t usually go there. I might go more often now because I’ve discovered the grocery and it’s about the same price-wise as my usual grocery store.
Still want to cry 🙁
Kim says
Wow, you’re not kidding about the sheer color in that quad. The polishes definitely say “fall” to me though. Btw, I’ve been meaning to tell you that your bangs look fantastic. I have cowlicks so I have trouble with bangs of any kind. Yours have been looking great though! 🙂

I need that black (glitter) n/p STAT
Vanessa says
NAIL POLISH: Taunting Teal
PRO: Gorgeous color in the sunlight. One coat is actually enough!
CON: In the dark, the color changes to a near black. (I’m still happy with my purchase.)

I know it might not be new for fall – but I’m curious about her Perfecting Luminous Foundation – has 100% reviews on MUA. I’m hoping to grab one this weekend!

If you want more intensity with the eyeshadow quad, just wet your brush before applying. The shadow is very soft, so be gentle. It will shimmer much more, I love mine! It does not say it is a wet/dry shadow but I often use my shadows this way and it usually works. With this product, it looks great!
Karen says
Hi Blythe,
Thanks for the tip!

Well, now i’m happy I just ordered the rosey nude lip crayon…looks pretty!~
