It’s true — nude lipsticks might not drive makeup lovers into frenzies like a brilliant fuchsia lipstick or a cobalt blue nail polish can, but lip looks featuring nudes are still among my favorites, just the same.
Nude lips are always in style and look great with almost anything. Unfortunately, finding a good nude lipstick can be tougher than finding a good man.
If I had a nickle for every time I tried a new nude lipstick, only to look up at myself in the mirror at something totally and completely wrong, I’d probably have between 80 cents and $1. 🙂 But seriously, the truly great ones are few and very far between.
New for fall, Burberry’s Lip Cover in Nude Cashmere ($30) passes the mirror test with flying colors (or lack thereof).
Actually — it does contain pigment. It’s a beautiful brownish beige (reminds me of raw almond skin), and it’s one of the most wearable nudes I’ve met in a while.
Since launching last fall, the Burberry Beauty makeup line has stayed pretty true to the brand’s fashion aesthetic with seasonal collections of mostly understated, neutral, classic shades and designs. I think of their pieces as luxurious basics with a timeless appeal, and I’ll reach for them when I want to look polished, put together and professional.
Nude Cashmere, one of two new Burberry Lip Covers for fall (part of the Autumn Winter 2011/12 collection), saunters onto Burberry Beauty counters next month with seven other pieces for eyes, lips and face.
Nude Cashmere is a $30 lipstick; thankfully, it feels like one, too, and has a highly moisturizing formula. Like a couture cashmere sweater, it’s light as cotton candy and buttermilk smooth. Even the light rose scent and flavor seem expensive.
But, sadly, like the fleeting affections of a husky tabby cat, Nude Cashmere disappears all too soon…
Burberry’s Lip Covers normally last about three hours on me, but Nude Cashmere disappears after barely an hour (I guess it has somewhere better to be). What a shame, because a $30 nude lipstick this pretty should really stick around.
Nude Cashmere is so easy to wear, and I love how fancy and cosmopolitan I feel with it on, that I’d almost be willing to overlook the very limited wear time.
Almost.
I’m thinking it might be better suited for Burberry Beauty collectors and hard-core fans of the brand.

Fall is in the air…
And I’m looking for a new seasonal scent. Burberry’s new fragrance, which is called Body, launches next month with some notes that have my nose intrigued. Officially they include…
- Top notes: Green absinthe (cool!), freesia and peach
- Middle notes: Rose, iris and sandalwood
- Base notes: Woody cashmere, creamy vanilla, sensual amber and musk
Sounds divine, right? I can’t wait to give it a try.
I’ve been wearing and loving Burberry Summer off and on for months. I hope I like Body as much.
I have a weakness for rose scents. They’ve been my fragrance Achille’s heel ever since I discovered YSL Paris as a teenager.
What scents have you been wearing lately, and do you plan to wear something new this fall?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

The color is beautiful! And your description of how exquisite it feels on the lips makes me totally want one right now. This color would probably wash me out, but I think I need one of the Lip Covers, for sure.
Karen says
Hi Larie,
There are lots of different colors in the Lip Cover line to choose from. How about either Delicate Rose or English Rose?
Tracy says
Aww, that’s too bad it disappears so soon! It’s quite nice!
I’ve been loving Bond No.9 Madison Square Gardens this summer!
Karen says
Ahh, they have some creative scents!
dani@callitbeauty says
boo on the wear time (seriously, 1 hour? >.<) but YAY on the fragrance! i've been wearing burberry classic for around 6 years now and it's one of my absolute favourites. can't wait to get a whiff of the new scent!
Karen says
Isn’t the bottle pretty? Not gonna lie — I also like it because it looks like it can be used as a weapon, LOL.
Heidi says
It is a beautiful color, but really needs to last longer if I’m shelling out the big bucks!
I love Burberry fragrances in general and this new one sounds intriguing. Lately I’ve been alternating between Burberry Weekend and all the various Pacifica fragrances (I’m obsessed with the roll-on perfumes).
Karen says
GURL, don’t get me started on Brit Sheer. That stuff is the sauce! 🙂
I’m hoping the rose notes are nice and light with this new one…
Nina says
oh thats lovely …. im thinking its a bit light for me but im wanting it!
Karen says
You might want to give it a go! It’s sooo pretty on… like the perfect work color. 🙂
How was your day? I hope it wasn’t to crazy on the job front!
Nina says
we’re going to the Galleria for my sister’s birhday soon-ish. she wants a mac makeover LOL …
while we’re there im going to pop over @ Nordies to check this lippy out! ill also grab a chai while im there!
Karen says
I hope she goes for a dramatic makeup when she’s at the counter… those are so fun!
Ahh, I haven’t had a Nordies chai in ages. Have fun! And let me know what you think of the lipstick.
Ava says
Aw, too bad it doesn’t last, especially at that price point and because it’s such a good color for you. I have a few nudes collecting dust.
Karen says
Hi Ava,
You gotta take those lipsticks out to play! It’s the perfect excuse to bust out a smokey eye. 😉
Amber says
That looks beautiful on you! Boo on wear time.
Lately I have been trying to plow through my 3000 perfume samples. I’m out of my favorite warm weather scent, so I am forcing myself to shrink my stash before buying more. (We’ll still have warm weather until at least Thanksgiving!)
Karen says
I’m getting ahead of myself since we usually have a late summer, too, but still. I can’t even deal with the thought of rain again. AAAHHH!
Have you found anything good in your sample stash?
And oh, if you live near a Neimans you should grab a few samples from Artelier Cologne. They make some luscious fragrances.
Amber says
Haven’t found anything I love, but I have found a few I can cross off the list. I thought Miss Dior Cherie was pretty ordinary, Very Hollywood was okay, and YSL Parisienne smelled like Swedish Fish to me. Swedish Fish are my favorite candy, but I don’t want to wear them!
The most interesting one so far has been Leslie Blodgett’s Bare Skin. It layers really well with scents that are too flowery on their own.
Karen says
Hmm, Swedish Fish. They’re like souped up, extra chewy red gummies, right?
Kinda random, but I just found out the other day that they now make CHEWY Lemon Heads. What is this world coming to? LOL
I haven’t smelled the Bare Skin yet… will have to check it out when I go to Sephora (hopefully today).
Amber says
They taste a bit different from your garden-variety gummy, and the all-red ones are a little different still. But I can chow down on any of them! I usually buy myself a little bag for a plane ride. 🙂
Chris25 says
I like brownish-beiges, but this one isn’t worth it for $30 (to me, at least). I think I’ll go get MAC Velvet Teddy instead.
Karen says
What’s your fave brownish beige, Chris?
Vijaya says
Love Burberry lipsticks!
Karen says
They’re great!
Shauna says
I am happy, yet deeply saddened. This color screams me for all I wear is nude lips of all shades, but $30. . . I don’t know if I can justify spending that in ONE lipstick. Hmmm, to purchase or not to purchase. Maybe where it doesn’t have any real lasting power I should stay away . . . but then agian, it’s truly a very beautiful color
~ By the way it looks great on you Karen
Karen says
Thanks, Shauna. 🙂 Do you happen to live near a Burberry counter? It might be worth a trip to the mall to just try it on. Then you can decide whether or not it’s worth the splurge!
Shauna says
PS: I love your eye makeup here as well 🙂
Karen says
That’s LORAC Ooh La Lace in action!
Stephanie R says
Ooh…Burberry Summer is my go to perfume! I make sure I buy a bottle of it before summer is over every year so I don’t run out. If you haven’t tried it though, you’d probably like Coach Poppy and the original Ed Hardy for Women. The Ed Hardy perfume shares many of the same notes that Burberry Summer does, but differs just enough.
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Love that perfume! It’s such a light, crisp scent.
Thanks for the recommendations… I’ll see if I can give that Coach one a sniff. 🙂
gio says
It looks beautiful on you! But for that price, it really should last a lot longer!
Karen says
Yes!
Joyce says
I guess for $30 you’re paying for the packaging and not really the longevity of the product. hahaha..but I agree that $30 for a Burberry lipstick might be worth it to collectors even if the product doesn’t last long when worn on the lips.
The packaging is simply classic and gorgeous. =)
artemis says
he’s just not that into you :)))))) lol
i looove nudes but i can never find a pale enough one here
Swatch And Learn says
Haha, I laughed at Tabs’ “He’s just not that into you.” photo! 😛
And it’s too bad this nude didn’t last long. Yeah, you’d definitely expect it to at that price point!
Kerra says
Nudes are very hard to find. My go-to nude is Dolce Vita by Nars. I ADORE Nars. The runner up is Brownie Nude by Bobbi Brown.
Glosslizard says
I’ve been crushing on Burberry lately, I recently hauled their eyeshadow in Rosewood, Lip Sheer in Copper and Lip Cover in Bright Plum! All three are amazing in terms of color and texture, and the Copper lip sheer is my current perfect nude! 🙂
P.S. I’m also looking forward to Burberry Body, it sounds luscious!
Patty says
That color looks wonderful on you! I love nude lipsticks and that’s a lovely shade. I would sure give this one a try if it weren’t for the short wear time.
Monika says
I have to try Burberry perfumes. I like everything with rose in it!
Laura says
My favorite nude is MAC Mocha-you may have already tried it, but if not, you should! It’s a brown/beige cremesheen.
mulberrytea says
I’m looking for a nude lipstick too, and I’m sorry to hear this didn’t work out for you. I have two lip covers and haven’t tried them out yet, so I’m not sure about the lasting power either.
By the way, are you sure the F/W release list is correct? I bought Midnight Brown sheer eyeshadow about a month ago, and some of the other items sound familiar too.
