If the $9.99 NYX Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette were a bra, it would be one that you wouldn’t normally pick out for yourself, but, because it was, like, on super deep discount, you buy it anyway, and even though it doesn’t fit as well as your go-to favorite bra, you come to realize, after wearing it a few times, that you love it more, the more you wear it.
Yup, that about summarizes this six-pan palette of neutral powder shadows, in a nutshell.
A more affordable alternative to the Viseart Neutral Palette
Lid Lingerie, which is available now at Ulta and other drugstores, has been out a while, but it only recently caught my eye, and I think it did because of how much I’ve been thinking about my beloved Viseart Neutral Matte Palette.
I love that thing, but damn! — it’s so freaking expensive. So I’ve been looking for a drugstore option, and I think Lid Lingerie is it.
Now, it’s not an exact dupe for the Viseart palette. I’ll say that up front. Viseart Neutral Matte has 12 shades, whereas NYX Lid Lingerie has six, but they’re similar. The NYX palette has several shades that look almost identical to some of the shades in Viseart.
Easy to blend and highly pigmented
There are so many good things about this palette! First, the pigments are totally on point. NYX has a reputation for pigmented shadows, and these are definitely up to par. Second, my brush doesn’t skip at all when I apply the shadows. I can move one color into the next with a few light sweeps of my brush, and painting gorgeous gradients — even complicated ones for smokey eyes — is surprisingly easy.
Drawbacks: fallout and fine lines
Nothing is perfect, though, right? When I swirl my brush in the pans, I do have to tap off more powder than I do with most other eyeshadows, and even so, I still do end up with a little fallout.
Not a lot though. As long as you unload most of the excess from your brush before bringing it to your lids, you’ll be fine.
For my fellow fine line-having #makeuphoarders, these are pretty smooth for drugstore matte shadows, and even when I pile them on, the shadows don’t look heavy or thick.
I do have to note, though, that compared to the Viseart Neutral Matte Palette, which is the smoothest of the smooooove, Lid Lingerie does highlight my fine lines, especially the ones on the inner half of my lids for some reason, but it’s not like, “Oh, hai, everyone! Come stare at my fine lines!”
Unless you’re very persnickety, it’s doable.
The good things outweigh my minor quibbles
The things I love about NYX Lid Lingerie make up for its minor issues. It’s like the perfect mix of warm and cool tones, and you can’t beat the $9.99 price.
Dare I call it one of the best drugstore palette out there? Yeah, I do.

Inquiring minds want to know:
-If you have to choose between this one and Maybelline nudes, which will you choose?
-Do they need primer?
-Will the colors work on me?
Karen says
Hey Efra,
I’d go with this palette, and yes, I think it would work for you. It does need a primer, but you could use a concealer or even a foundation underneath in a pinch.

I think I may have to have this. NYX Dance the Tides is the shadow I reach for more than any other, more than Dior, Mac, Chanel…… The cheapest shadow I own is the one I use the most. Go figure!

I think I’ll spring for the Viseart palette. I don’t mind spending a bit more, and fallout is such a pain to me.
