Makeup and Beauty Blog Vs. Random Acts of Nature
Sat, 12/27/2008 by Karen | Posted in: News
Hey, ladies! I’m writing this post from my phone at the airport. I was supposed to leave Oahu last night on a red eye, but there was a massive power outage all over the island. The airport was shut down and all the outbound flights were cancelled. I managed to get on a flight this morning, though, so it’s all good. Because of these unexpected events, I won’t be able to blog until I get home later on tonight, but I’ll check in again after landing.
I just wanted to pop by to wish you a good day. Have a lovely Saturday, and I’ll talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

At the airport during the blackout?! Hope you didn’t have to camp out there overnight! I was in the middle of cooking dinner when the power outage struck! Drove around trying to find hot food but everyone was closed too – cold cereal for dinner! yay. HAHA!

Today must be the day because I am writing thank you notes as well. Karen, what kind of awesome phone do you have where you can type this blog (including pictures) from your phone! I am hardly patient enough to type an e-mail reply on my blackberry
Travel safely!

Hi Karen,
I’m at home too, and we were about to have a family dinner at Roy’s when the power went out, so they sent us home without any dinner =(
So my dad cooked us instant noodles on the gas grill, it was hilarious! I also ended up eating a whole lot of chocolate and cookies by lantern =)
Were you listening to the radio? Weren’t some of the callers too funny?! “How long will my fish live without the filter?” “Is the water safe to drink?”
I’m glad you made it out this morning and hope you had a safe flight! Happy Holidays!

Hope you made it home safely!

Thank goodness I had already eaten dinner by the time the power went out! I was playing Rock Band with my brothers when the blackout hit… but it was all good. We sat around the lanterns and played Trouble and Nintendo DS. Try removing your makeup and showering with only a lantern! Not so fun!
Hope you make it home safely!

Thank god you weren’t stuck at the airport! My husband and I almost spent the night in O’Hare on the way to my folks’ place for Christmas :X
In other news, I finally got to check out the spring Chanel collection in person, and oh my god it is so gorgeous!! The iridescent liquid shadows in particular are really amazing. Can’t wait to hear your take on it!

Hi Almira,
Yup, it sure did! I’m just glad I was able to get on the plane the next morning, eek!
How was your weekend?
21. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Candice,
At least cold cereal is easy, yah? Mmm… Cinnamon Toast Crunch!
El Hub and I stood in a horrendous line for two hours before the United folks broke the news that no flights were going out. He wanted to sleep at the airport but I was like, “UM HELL TO THE NAWWW.” I have a general rule not to fall asleep in public places when my purse is with me.
When did you guys get your power back up?
22. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Michele,
Thanks, sweetie! I owe it all to the power of dark glasses.
Did you get all your thank you notes done?
23. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Joods,
I think he was! It was so cute — all the girls at the kitty hotel were sad to see him go. He’s such a player.
Did you have a nice weekend?
24. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Jenn,
Thanks for your safe travel wishes, girly! We got back safe and sound (albeit 12 hours later then planned).
I used an iPhone to do the post. It’s kind of challenging to type on (I prefer the CrackBerry querty keyboard buttons), but you get used to it!
How was your weekend?
25. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Jenna,
OoOoo — I love Roy’s! Bummer you guys had to leave without any yummy food in your tummies. Hey, instant noodles isn’t so bad, though.
You’re so right, the folks on the radio were too funny! On the way to the airport we listed to somebody going on and on about how the street lamps had to be manually reset after a black out, blah blah blah…
Did you guys have to throw out the stuff in your fridge? How long was it before your power came on?
26. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Lesley,
You are so sweet! I did a little minimal makeup in the car on the way to the airport. I had about four hours of sleep the night before, so I didn’t want to scare anybody with my dark circles.
What makeup do you wear when you travel? I usually just do tinted moisturizer, concealer, brows and MAC Blot powder. If I have time I’ll throw in some blush. It’s usually enough to fake it!
27. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Tavia,
Thanks hon! We got home safe and sound. How was your weekend?
28. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Christina,
Girl, it’s been a rough travel season! Are you still at home for the holidays?
The trip was fun. It was pretty low key — we spent lots of time hanging with the family and a few days here and there at the beach. It rained a TON while we were there!
29. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Daya,
Thanks, sweets! We got home safe and sound yesterday.
Did you have a good holiday?
30. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Tiera,
LOL, we had just finished eating dinner when the power went out, and I remember thinking, “Thank gawd we ate and showered before it went dark!”
I bet showering with just a lantern has its challenges.
31. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Evie,
My father-in-law was nice enough to come back to the airport to pick us up. I would NOT have been able to handle spending the night there. I am too much of a wimp…
Did you pick up any of the Chanel spring collection? I played with a few bits today and it’s SO pretty!
32. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Anna,
I agree — thank gawd for the sunglasses!
When I’m traveling I like to do super easy makeup. Just tinted moisturizer, concealer, MAC Blot and my brows (and sometimes blush). It’s really easy and you can do it in the car (if somebody else is driving, of course).
How was your weekend?
33. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Jessica,
I managed to get a lil’ color even though it rained a ton while we were there!
Did you have a nice weekend?
34. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Pia,
How are you, girl?! I hope you’ve been well and that your weekend was fantastic!
35. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi Roxy,
LOL, I owe it all to the sunglasses.
Happy New Year to you ,too!
36. Karen said, on December 28th, 2008:
Hi June,
It was pretty good. There wasn’t too much turbulence and I got to watch The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 on the way home (yay!).
Which side of the island do you live on? My family is on the Windward side. Today it was 50 degrees in the bay area and I already miss Hawaii!
37. Christina said, on December 29th, 2008:
Yep, still home in Washington State. I’ve already heard from the airlines about some adventures on the way back…
I’m glad you got back safely! Thanks for an abundance of posts already… Made my morning!
