Creamy, pale lavender MAC Modern Movement. Two coats.
It’s quite a break from the dark, moody colors I started this season wearing, but who le cares, right? 🙂
It’s from the new MAC Lightness of Being collection, which is filled with pastel shades and shimmery Mineralize Skinfinishes.
Kind of uncharacteristic for winter, but maybe that’s why I like it.
That name — Modern Movement — makes me think of the dance classes I used to take.
Not modern dance, but hip-hop. There was a place I went to down in Mill Valley a couple times a week, and I miss it terribly.
I actually did also try taking a few modern dance classes, but my mind and body had a hard time processing the concept of flexed feet, LOL!
Anyways! Modern Movement is one of two Studio Nail Lacquers in the 29-piece Lightness of Being collection arriving online December 23, 2014, and coming to stores and counters December 26 (through February 6, 2015).
Hakuna frittata!
Have you ever made frittata? They’re SO GOOD!
They’re kind of like a crustless quiche that you can fill with whatever you have/want — vegetables, cheese, etc.
(NOTE: Great way to feed a lot of people and/or use up extra veggies in your fridge.)
I was craving one last night, so I riffed on the recipe in this how-to article on thekitchn.com.
It looks like it would be hard, but it’s not at all. I only used a single pan, and with frittatas, you can totally tweak them along the way.
Yeah, frittatas are the sh*t. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ooo I love this MAC color on you! I painted mine after a *reallly* long time with Dior Grege and I’m back in love! I know it’s time for something brighter but I love this one!!
Debra says
Mmmm! Frittatas are good! Modern dance classes are not! At least the ones I took were, to put it literally, off-the-wall.
I am half-wearing Chanel Shanghai Red which I had to toss after 6? years. Viscosity is gone. Replacement needed. (Stocking stuffer?)
Anyway, Modern Movement looks good!
I caught sight on this site of Around the Web — the Ugly Christmas suit!!
The office of Dear Husband is having the annual Christmas breakfast. (Not for me – I have to warm up to breakfast.) He said that there was an email sent out advising people to wear their — elasticized waistband pants!!
And I though of Karl. And you.
I told him that is not as bad as the co-worker I knew who had a special portion of her wardrobe devoted to the Christmas eating wardrobe — one size up — to allow for the extra portions!
So, frittata, yes!! Slogged egg nog, no.
Agata says
I love that shade, it is a nice break from darker winter colors but I’d gladly wear it in spring as well.
I am currently wearing Zoya Matte Formula in Posh. It’s a red matte shade and I like it so much that I am wearing it second week in a row!
Allison C says
Very pretty nail shade, but I’m really curious about the Gypsy Water. I also saw it on another blog in the background. The name sounds so wonderful. Did I miss your review on Gypsy Water?
Sylvia says
I am currently rocking Essie Chinchilly. It is the perfect nude-grey and my favorite Essie color for both color and formula. Happy Holidays!
Aida says
I just painted them this morning with Chanel Phenix, a perfect red :).
txabela says
An oldie one- China Glaze’s Fifth Avenue. I think I will give it to my mother. It is her kind of shade! Classic and discreet!
Rachel says
I’m wearing Essie No More Film, a dark blurple. I always get so excited for fall/winter to wear dark colors but then I get burned out on them right away.
That frittata looks so good, and pretty healthy too!
Frances says
That color is so pretty!
I am wearing Tom Ford’s Viper – wishing it were Black Cherry though. Wanted a dark red/purple. Viper is too purple. D&G’s Dahlia is too brown. Any good red/black/purple recommendations?
Myan says
I’ve seen OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark and Nails Inc.’s Victoria (part of the NailKale line) as budget-friendly dupe suggestions for Black Cherry.
I would also recommend Dior Vernis Gel Shine in Nuit 1947 (970) as a high-end alternative, though it’s red-based rather than plum/purple-based. Dior’s formula and brush can’t be beat, in my opinion!
Kelly says
YUM! I’ve never made a frittata before! And I don’t have anything painted on my nails, haven’t had a chance to sit down & paint them in MONTHS!
Do says
AAh, I love Gypsy Water!
LindaLibraLoca says
Essies “For the twill of it” again. I am still one for the dark moody colors.
Cyndi says
Currently rocking the bare nail as me and my best friend are doing mani’s for my birthday in a few days!! But I love light colors in winter as well as dark ones!! So keep on rocking those lavender nails!!! 🙂
Ruchita says
Nothing on my nails right now, but I might do a sparkly, holiday manicure this weekend. Thanks for linking to that frittata how-to recipe! I think it would be great to make ahead and heat it up for breakfast. I can’t handle anything more complicated than the microwave in the mornings. 🙂
Myan says
That MAC polish is a lovely neutral color on you 🙂
I’m currently wearing Tom Ford’s Black Cherry.
Lorraine says
chanel Orage. waiting for it to dry. love this MAC color on you. must check that out. liking the neutrals and spring colors this winter, too.
Fancie says
Omg that looks so good!! Making me hungry lol. Hopefully, I’ll be rocking my Ciatè nude polish soon because I desperately need my nails done lol. Love how Lightness of Being looks on you too!
Majick says
I am sorry I didn’t have time to read everyone’s post but I actually had my nails done last night. OPI – color so hot it berns.
(it’s a red LMAO)
Kwmechelle says
Sinful Colors Nirvana. It’s kinda a nude chocolate-ty/grey shade. Terrible explanation, I know, but it’s such a pretty nude color. It can lean a bit nude gray in certain lighting. Unfortunately, I did a botched job with this mani so I may repaint them lata 🙂
Erin says
Nothing still on my nails. Been too busy. Before my egg allergy I was a Frittata master! I LOVE THEM 🙁
Natalie Brown says
Such a pretty lilac shade! My favorite release from 2014 is the Essie Sittin’ Pretty which is the most lovely pastel/lilac/orchid color. It was in their Spring collection. Today, I have a mix of OPI, China Glaze, and Revlon alternating red, gold, and silver with matching glitter toppers. Sooooo much fun!!
MelodyJ says
Yes I’ve made a frittata before. Taste of Home used to have a sister magazine called Healthy Cooking. I got the recipe from there. I’ll have to try the one you posted.
On my nails I’m wearing China Glaze Camisole. It’s a light brown with shimmer. Very pretty. Also I’m loving Red Carpet Cling Base Coat and Red Carpet Shiny Top Coat.
Rachel R. says
That looks prettier on the nails than I would have thought. I’m not a huge fan of nude polishes, but the hint of lavender color takes it up a notch.
I’m not sure what I’m wearing. My manicurist had a new brand I’d never seen before, and I don’t remember the name of the brand or the shade. It’s a pretty, shimmery cranberry red. She airbrushed a white chevron and star design on it with white acrylic paint, and painted silver glitter accents. The design work was her Christmas present to me. Too sweet.
Karen says
Hi Rachel R.,
What a nice present! Your manicurist sounds like a sweet gal. Will you be keeping that design for Christmas?
Rachel R. says
Yes, I’ll keep it for Christmas for sure. I’ll change it for New Year’s Eve, though.
Kiss & Make-up says
Dat frittata… get im mah belleh!
Cute nail polish, my nails are bare at the moment.
Karen says
You should try making it! It’s easy (and that’s coming from someone who can’t really cook, LOL!). I used potatoes, broccoli and onions. For spices I grabbed some random things from the cupboard: thyme, basil and paprika.
Happy Friday! What’s the plan for the weekend?
Kiss & Make-up says
Omnomnom! Yesterday we had a welcome home party for a friend who studies in the US. He came back for the holidays. And today and tomorrow we’re just chilling and getting ready for our trip to Belgium.
Rachel Rogers says
I’m wearing Clinique red party 2 coats plus top. well it is Christmas and there is nothing like painting your nails a deep red
Kim says
Hakuna Frittata. That’s a good one. 🙂 It looks delish, too. I don’t make them often at all. Only one of the boys likes omelets and only cheese at that. They’re not super into eggs.
Karen says
I wasn’t either at that age. A big thing for me is texture — when eggs are rubbery I don’t want have anything to do with them. Are the boys picky eaters?
TGIF, by the way!
Trude says
I just did Spa Ritual’s Spellbound last night, it’s the perfect red jelly with microglitter! 🙂
Marina(Makeup4all) says
Mm, that frittata!
Will try and cook it, too. And I just cooked lasagna and peanut butter cookies yesterday.
As for the nail polish – I am wearing Marc Jacobs’ Lola
