Today the lovely (and friendly) Kelly of Vampy Varnish shares a review of Nubar’s new collection of green nail polishes for summer.
Nubar — if you haven’t heard of it yet, you’re about to! 🙂
Nubar has a huge array of nail polishes in various colors and finishes, everything from pale pink to orange to black, and finishes from creme to shimmer to glitter.
Beyond that, they’re also a responsible nail polish company, meaning that their polishes don’t contain the “Big 3” worst offending chemicals found in many brands of nail polish: DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde.
They’ve partnered with PETA and are now certified Vegan and Cruelty-Free, and their bottles will soon be branded with a logo to show their exciting new status.
To honor the accomplishment, Nubar has released the Going Green Collection of six, very different green polishes. For a lot of polish junkies, green is the *Holy Grail* of colors, and for a company to release six at once just blows the mind!!
The formula for this whole collection is really fabulous, as most Nubar’s tend to be. I didn’t have any streaking, bubbling, cuticle drag or any issues with these, and they were all done with two coats.
Reclaim
Holographic greens aren’t very common, and Reclaim is a gorgeous one. The color is a sort of muted grass green, and as you can see the rainbow effect is downright amazing.
Wildlife
Wildlife is a very interesting and strange color and, of course, turned out to be my favorite one!
It’s very hard to describe — like a khaki green duochrome that flashes gold and pink, depending on the lighting. It’s a shade you’ll either love or hate, and it’s definitely not for the color shy.
Conserve
Conserve, a super flattering cool blue/green shimmer, is filled with silver and blue shimmer particles.
Forest
Forest is the only creme in the collection, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s what I might call a forest green, one of very few great green cremes out there to choose from.
Earth
Earth doesn’t actually look like a typical green; it has a lot of blue and reminds me of the ocean, not the earth. It’s shimmery and completely amazing — my second favorite color in the collection.
Greener
Greener, a dark emerald green shimmer, is simply stunning. I love it! It’s one of those colors you apply on your nails and then cannot stop looking at!
So what do you guys think of Nubar Going Green? Are they on the right track?
The collection is available now, and you can find Nubar polishes for $7.49/each at bynubar.com. 🙂

Kelly, how do you get the borders of your nail polish so even? I often end up with paint all over my cuticles and tips of my fingers, which looks super great with dark colours !

the applications look so smooth!! I have the same question as Lana!! I’m probably too conservative to try unless it’s halloween but they look amazing!
marmar says
Lookin lovely!
How do they hold up in terms of chipping/cracking. I’ve never tried any sort of “green” polish.

Lana & Ann – I have a little trick to clean my cuticles up. I have a small, soft paintbrush with a pointed tip I got at Michael’s for maybe $3.00. I dip it in remover and go around all the edges and it cleans it right up!
Marmar – Nubar is really great quality, their polish definitely lasts longer than a lot of “cheaper” brands out there.

Ooh, thanks for the review! I gotta get Reclaim and Greener!
Patti says
can you only get these nail polishes online or is there a physical store I can go to? I’d rather test the polish first before buying to see if I will like it
Vampy Varnish says
Hi Patti – As far as I know these are only found online, sorry!

Hey Karen! Couldn’t help but notice how experimental you are about color! I just have one question, because my skin is quite dark for someone from eastern Asia (curse the sun and my need to be outside during the summer), and now all my polishes from winter don’t match my skin tone! I’m hoping to get a few more colors for my new skin tone and wanted your advice! You must have tried so many polishes, and I’d love your help! What bright, poppin’ colors should I try out?
