So purple that Prince would be majorly jelly!
There are many reasons to love Essie’s Flowerista Nail Polish ($8.50), but the main one is that it could totally hang with my favorite Tom Ford nail polish shade of all time, African Violet.
This dark, creamy purple isn’t an exact dupe, mind you. African Violet is a touch deeper, but if ya want the Tom Ford look without the steep price ($32 for African Violet), Essie’s Flowerista is an excellent alternative.
It’s also a stunner with bright purple lipsticks like MAC Matte Lipstick in Heroine. Purple lips + purple tips = purple power!
Flowerista is part of the new Essie Flowerista Spring Collection, available now at salons, Ulta, Target, Nordstrom stores and everywhere else Essie is sold.
P.S. Happy Tuesday to you! 🙂 I hope you’re having a good day so far.
With my employer’s help, for what his 20 pounds of tabby “muscle” is good for, I’ll be moving things around in my office in anticipation of those pink shelves arriving. Things have been slow going on the organizational front, but I’m finally making real progress, and it feels good.
Pretty soon I’ll even have some new paintings and pictures on my walls (I’ll take some pics and show you when they’re up). I’m really looking forward to that. I want to get some of those photo ledges, like these from Crate & Barrel, so that I can swap things out easily and keep the place looking new and fresh.
I can’t decide between the black or the white shelves…
P.P.S. What are you wearing on your nails? Inquiring, lacquer-obsessed minds want to know.
Stephanie says
I use photo ledges for my nail polish collection – inspired by Pinterest. It’s excellent. Also, I just ordered purple lipstick! I want to look half as fab as you. 😀
I’m wearing a brown with holographic green/gold shimmer on my nails today, though I wish it were the more starry one I have.
Karen says
That’s a great idea Stephanie! Do you have multiple ledges or one really long ledge?
Stephanie says
I went with two short ones. It fits my space better, and I think adding another on top or below will be easy if I want to do that.
Steph Smith says
I’m wearing a China Glaze Black Diamond on my nails, one of my favorites. But that Essie is calling my name. Loooooove it! The purple lipstick is amazeballs, but I think it’s a wee bit too much for me.
Fancie says
I was JUST coming here to say this looks like that beautiful Tom Ford polish you have LOL. Guess I’ve been eyeing that polish for way too long! I’m glad this is close though. I can’t afford the Tom Ford version but I’m all for grabbing this one. Thanks for sharing!
Kwmechelle says
I’m rocking a super bright pink fuschia. It’s a gel polish that I got at the nail salon. Manis at the salons at home are much more affordable than what I pay in my neck of the woods. I’m even tempted to get another mani before I hit the road this weekend. I’m thinking of a pretty coral color. I still haven’t bought Heroine. I dunno how I feel about it. I tried it at the MAC counter but I still wasn’t intrigued enough to take the plunge. It looks lovely on you. The top + your mani + the lippie = beautiful!! Well done, dude!
Karen says
Thanks babe! 🙂
I vote that you get another mani before going home. You have to have a new color signifying the last leg of your trip. Right? RIGHT!
Kwmechelle says
RIGHT! Love when important beauty decisions like this are made.
Karen says
That’s what I’m here for. So that you can wisely make these crucial life decisions. LOL!
Ruchita says
Love your nail polish color! I’m a fan of purple. I’m embarassed to admit that I’ve got the remnants of a 3-week gel manicure job on my nails. However the color is a pretty sparkly fuschia. I love gel manis b/c they last so long, but it does take a bit of work to remove it.
Karen says
Three weeks is great wear time! Did you do the gel mani yourself or did you go to a salon?
Agata says
I hope you will share some pictures once the reorganization is complete!
Flowerista is really pretty and you know how much I love purples! I am wearing Essie Play Date on my nails right now.
gio says
Flowerista is gorgeous! I’m not wearing anything on my nails today (giving them a much-needed rest), but you’re making me want to go and paint them purple now.
Jen says
Ooh, such a nice dupe- I love violet polish for Spring and Summer! Heroine is one of my favourite lipsticks (surprisingly wearable) and that blouse of yours is adorable 🙂

Waiting to view the paintings! 🙂
Currently I’m wearing a bright red nail color from the brand MUA (Red fever) and it’s really one hot shade!
Tatiana says
I was wearing Tom Ford African Violet, until last night when I accidentally slammed my garage door into my hand and split a nail vertically all the way down to where it meets the skin. Argh! Had to take the polish off to see how bad the damage was and decided to trim them all back to super short, so they match.
I swear that Essie is almost a perfect dupe for the Tom Ford. Kinda wish I had seen it first before I bought the Tom Ford. Oh well, I justify my Tom Ford polish purchases because they last so long compared to other brands on my nails.
Karen says
Sorry to hear about your little accident! Is your hand OK?
P.S. Tom Ford African Violet will always be my number 1 purple. 🙂
Tatiana says
Thanks for asking. My hand is OK. The nail is not. I had to trim it all the way down and file it smooth as best I could. But it’s still a bit ragged. Should grow out enough in a week. I’m a klutz.
Karen says
Whew! At least you didn’t break any bones or anything. Good thing nails grow back, right?
Lorraine says
Love love love! When my friend showed me her Flowerista nails, I immediately grabbed them and wondered aloud how close to TF African VIolet it is. What a gorgeous shade! I love the color of the TF, but the formula didn’t cooperate with me so well. My little dupe of African Violet is Sally Hansen COmplete Salon Manicure in Cherry Cherry Bang Bang. If you can find one on ebay or at the dollar store someday, pick it up. Way easier to work with and get a smooth coverage, IMO. Love Tom Ford polishes, but for $32 I demand perfection. My latest TF fave is a little gem called Minx. crushing on that one so much at the moment. On my nails today is Deborah Lippmann Modern Love.
Erin says
Very pretty!
Tulipthecat says
Love the nails and lipstick! I’m totally into purple lately – especially purple eyeliner. However, I decided to try a different color for my nails. I bought Essie Blossom Dandy but now I kind of want to get Flowerista too.
Karen says
I am testing a purple liner today!
Which one are you wearing?
And are Jazmine and Tulip friends again?
Tulipthecat says
The one that I’ve been loving is from ARDENCY INN and it’s called the MODSTER Smooth Ride Super Charged Eyeliner in Deep Purple and I also bought the Lilac one which is matte lilac color to wear in the waterline. It’s a pretty good brand. I bought it during the VIB sale and it doesn’t slip off my eyelids.
I also have one from L’oreal that I like too.
Tulip is still suspicious of Jazmine but it’s gotten better. There are birds building a nest near our front door and they are fighting over who can sit on the window sill to watch the birds.
Karen says
I have a gold liner from that line that I like. I haven’t tried it on the waterline though. Does the matte lilac one hold well?
Oooh, I wonder who will win the battle of the bird’s nests! Shh…I’m Team Tulip. 😉
Tulipthecat says
The lilac holds on the water line pretty good. It lasts a whole 8 hour work day and then some.
Right now Tulip has the window sill
Karen says
I’ll have to look into it then! I’m always looking for interesting colors to wear on the lower lash lines that actually stay, you know?
Have a great day!
LindaLibraLoca says
No nail polish for me, I have to wait for the weekend to be able to put some on again. I am thinking I will go for Essie Watermelon, but things can change until Friday, so let´s see…
Holly says
I have a tendency to stick with rich pinks & darker blues & I very rarely paint my fingernails but I ALWAYS have my toenails painted. I do have two baby showers, a highschool reunion & a wedding coming up in the next few months…might be time to shake up my color palette in favor of that violet!
Katherine Ortiz says
Where did you get the beautiful blouse from? I love it 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Katherine! The top is by Halogen and I got it at Nordstrom last summer. I’m not sure if it’s currently available. I’d keep checking online though because I’ve noticed that Halogen often does similar cuts/styles every season. If I see it online I’ll let you know. 🙂
andrea says
that is a GORGEOUS COLOR!
currently, I’m wearing >>>wet n wild dreamy poppy<<<
and I just love it. just looking at it makes me smile and think of a sunny day at the park/beach/insert summertime weather location here_____
u should try it! (4 days later, and a few sink full of dishes later, and it is still going STRONG!)
Karen says
Sounds like my kind of polish, Andrea! My poor nails…I seriously put them through the ringer and then some.
What base and top coat are you wearing with it?
andrea says
same here my nails have been a mess for months now.
I’m using the Formula X base coat and top coat from Sephora 🙂
I usually do wear these, but I think in this case, the nail color is actually the stronger of the 3 layers 😉
Karen says
Oh, great choice! I’ve tried both of those and they’re soooo good. Have you ever used the Nail Cleanser from Formula X? It’s this very thin liquid that you paint onto bare nails before doing your base coat. It preps the nail for the polish. I’ve used it before and thought it made a difference in wear time. I wish I could find it because mine went MIA a while back.
tirurit says
Oh my goodness! Pretty please let this nailpolish be launched in this desolate corner of the woods!!!
I must confess that since I started my second job a month ago I have had my nails bare… I need a “me” afternoon soon!!!!
Jenn says
Nothing at the moment….they’re a little scary, BUT I plan on painting them my favorite black….Illamasqua’s Creator :). Minimal chipping and dark/easy to fix!
Ginger says
Essie Garden Variety. 🙂 I love Essie!
Trude says
So perty, and such a ringer for the TF polish! Gonna have to pick that one up. 🙂 For once I don’t have color on my nails, ran out of time and decided on sleep instead – just did a quick coat of Seche Vite’s base coat, which on it’s own is a pretty kind of sheer milky color with some shimmer, and dries super quick.
I have white walls so I went with picture ledges in white too, so the focus is on the display instead – got mine from IKEA! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Trude,
Oh, sweet. I’ll check out the Ikea ones. 🙂 I’m leaning towards white because eventually I plan to have a lot of color in this room, but black always looks so elegant. Yargh, I’m probably over thinking it!
Karen says
Oh, quick question for you. Are the frames of your pictures black or white? I’m worried that if I get white ledges and use black frames it will look weird.
Trude says
I have a mix because I like that eclectic look, but several of the ones with black frames have white matting so it all works together. Emily Henderson just did a post about framing art, you should check it out! 🙂
Karen says
OK, thank you! I like an eclectic look too. I don’t know the rules of decorating very well so this is good to know. 🙂 Thank you for your help!
Rachel R. says
Love that color! How fun.
My nails are a hot mess right now. They desperately need a fill, plus I smashed my fingers a couple weeks ago. The acrylic is currently clear, and my bruises are showing through the nails. One nail is cracked in half.
Before that, they were clear with red tips patterned with Oriental floral design, then hand painted black and white flowers and dots down one side and blending into the tips. They were so gorgeous. I don’t have anything going on tomorrow, so hopefully I can get a nail appointment.
Antonia says
violet is soooooooo your color!
Kiss & Make-up says
Pretty! This kind of shade suits you very well. I’m wearing a purple, blue & green mani today, going for multicolored nails.
Amber says
I’ve always wanted that Tom Ford polish (I’m sure I saw it here first!), so this is a close enough dupe for me! Thanks for sharing!!
Catherine says
No way! I’ve been hunting for a nail polish that goes with MAC Heroine – thank you!
