Today Anšá Reams-Johnson reviews one of her new favorite nail polishes, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, in a new favorite shade.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

My hubby thinks I look great in red, and after many years of pinks and corals I’ve gotten aboard the bandwagon too. It helps that as I’ve gotten older my skin tone has changed, along with my propensity toward bolder colors.

So, after our recent move to Florida I set off to find the perfect shade of red nail polish — and not just any red, but a dark, wine red.

As I entered CVS, I was stopped in my tracks by a range of new nail polishes from Sally Hansen. Her Complete Salon Manicure collection promises what the name implies, a manicure in every bottle.

At this stage in my life, I don’t like to spend the time on a base coat, two coats of polish, and a top coat, and these polishes from Sally supposedly combine all of those products into one. I was sold at a glance!

I purchased two colors right then and there, which were actually almost the same. The big difference between them being that one shimmers while the other’s matte. I decided to use the matte color first, 610 Red Zin, which I think is a beautiful color, quite classic in fact. The name Red Zin truly fits it too as it looks like a small, albeit thick, bottle of red wine.

I like the way it looks with two coats (shown above). Although I have been known to spend money on Clinique and Christian Dior makeup, I usually won’t spend a lot on nail polishes, and I haven’t been impressed by the more expensive polishes I’ve tried. OPI is usually as extravagant as I’ll get. Sally’s Complete Salon Manicure polishes retail from $6.49 to $7.99, which keeps them right in line with that.

Anyone who buys these will immediately notice the width of the brush. It’s a bit heavier than the brushes that come with most polishes, which is something I like about them. But you do have to be careful with it. I can definitely see it lending itself to heavy-handed application.

Also, I think this color here, Red Zin, makes it easier to see any mistakes, although I imagine I’m usually the only one who notices them in real life. How many people take the time to examine my hands up close from day to day?

I love this color, unlike many reds I’ve tried. My hubby noticed it the first time I wore it and said he loved it too.

I can’t wait to try the shimmery shade next!

Sally Hansen hasn’t always been a go-to brand for me, but I’m becoming a regular customer now.

UPDATE: When I removed Red Zin I found that my nails were stained. Even though it’s supposed to be a manicure in a bottle, I think I’ll start using it with a base coat from now on. Red polishes often stain my nails a bit, but this was a tad more than usual.

I find that most nail polish colors that are dark will stain unless i use a base coat.

I have 3 polishes in this line (they have some fab summer colors) and they all stain if I don’t use a base coat. But! They last well and are shiny without a topcoat. I like ’em!

The color looks great, but I hate when my nails get stained! I think Sally Hansen’s reds stain more than other reds too.

I love love love Sally Hansens salon polish line. The brush is flat and rounded at the tips, the polish dries super fast and comes in tons of colors. I use Nailtique 2 as a basecoat for my weak nails anyway so I’ve never had a problem with staining. Seche Vite added to the top makes for the perfect manicure.
