I’ve been trying to put my finger (Get it? Ba-dum-tss!) on what it is I find so intriguing about the new Essie 2014 Resort collection.
I mean, it’s not the symphony of eye-catching brights Resort 2013 was. That one still makes my heart flutter (The mint green! The turquoise!), and yet I’m drawn to 2014 like a sailor to a mermaid’s song.
Yes, sweet siren, sweep me away…
It’s gotta be something. Maybe it’s a combination of the way the mellow shades — the shimmery beige (It has silver sparkles swimming in it. SO CUTE!) and icy blue both contrast and coordinate with the brighter coral and deep plum.
The colors tell a tale of hills and dales, highs and lows, and I love that! This Resort is definitely not a one-note collection.
Typing away today, reading that word over and over again — resort — I find it difficult to stay in the moment. My thoughts keep wandering to other places, never mind that I’m sitting in front of a keyboard consuming large quantities of coffee and gnawing on a hunk of day-old sourdough bread. And forget that I’m wearing a crumb-covered wrinkled pink t-shirt with a picture of a tabby cat wearing glasses.
Resort… 🙂
I’d much rather be sipping cocktails by candlelight at a Ritz Carlton or dipping a painted toe into the salt water lagoon at the Kauai Grand Hyatt (I’ve always wanted to stay there).
No, those images are much better than the real life picture of grubby Karen currently sitting at her computer…
OK, I think I’ve got it! — what makes me like this collection so much. These understated shades are just so true to that resort lifestyle. Their beachside elegance would look right at home peeking out from under a cashmere blanket around a fun bonfire, or with tiny diamond-studded earrings and a bikini next to the hotel pool.
I’m crushing hard on icy blue Find Me An Oasis. It reminds me of the opaque white manicures I was seeing all over the place last summer, only more refreshing and resort-y. I love how smooth it is, too. Zero streaking. I’m wearing two coats in this pic.
Doesn’t creamy coral peach Resort Fling look almost like a slice of ripe cantaloupe? You might love this one if you like subdued, sheer corals. I like it with fuller coverage, so I’m wearing it here with three coats. This is what I’d wear on my toes if I was wearing…
…Under the Twilight on my tips.
DAYUM!
That about sums up how I feel about this shade.
A single layer creates rich, dark, fully opaque color, and it’s smoother than that guy at the party who ends up with all the girls’ numbers. If I had to pick one shade from this release to go home with, this would be the one.
As for Cocktails & Coconuts, yes, please? 🙂 I’ll take both. Haha! But seriously, this shade has secret squirrel shimmer — inconspicuous at first, but if you gaze carefully into its sandy beige, you’ll see tiny flecks of silver glitter swimming in it.
How very Chanel-esque.
I like it, but this one doesn’t make my pulse race like the other shades in the launch.
At least not without giving it some thought. I love secret shimmer, and I think that if you did some kind of multicolored mani combining Cocktails & Coconuts with any of the other colors, it could look really cute.
I’m actually thinking about doing something like this pic I saw on the kristinperry.com website.
Super cute, right?
I could use Cocktails & Coconuts for the beige, Find Me An Oasis for the white and Under the Twilight for the navy blue. Then, all I’d need is that bad-@ss ring, LOL!
Swatch out for the Essie 2014 Resort collection next month at salons, beauty stores and online at essie.com. The bottles are $8.50 each.

DAYUMNNN. Under The Twilight and Cocktails & Coconuts shall be mine.
Gina says
Thank you for this. I am in love and need them all!!!!

yowzers! thanks for the heads up, karen! i’ve been looking for a good white nail polish. it reminds me of the movie “hackers” with angelina jolie. do you recall that film? 🙂 most of the white nail polish i do find tend to streak, so your 2 cents about it’s ease of application has me sold!
i’d probably cop the “under the twilight” also. i’m not a big fan of blues, but this is a nice dark colour, opposed to a bright bold blue. 🙂

I’ve been hunting for a good neutral polish for awhile, and I think I’ll purchase Cocktails & Coconuts. I like the shimmer, and the beige not too dark nor too light. I also love the peachy coral, but I have a polish that is similar to it already so I think I’ll pass.

I like the darkest one the most!

I like how muted Resort Fling is. I’m surprised to see how dark UtT is. It’s kinda vampy for spring, no?
hanna says
I want all of these.

I’m impressed! These can be tough colours to make, and Essie seems to have nailed them all! I love Under the Twilight and Resort Fling!
marisa says
How does the Resort Fling compare to Dior Blossom from the Trianon collection? Could I have found a dupe?
Carina says
Oh wow, I love this collection’s color story! I think I like them more together, than applied as one color.
Jorunn says
They look beautiful together, but I don’t really wan’t to wear one of them on my nails. The blue is too white, I don’t like wearing white out on my nails. The plum is too black, I’m no goth. The coral is too warm-toned for me, and three coats is too much hassle. The last one is a bit boring. :/
Kim says
Oh, agreed. Twilight is a stunner. I expected Oasis to have a bit more blue so I was pretty surprised that it looks very white to me (albeit, a nice white!). I do like the secret shimmer in Cocktails. 🙂
Danielle says
Under the Twilight is really cute! I don’t typically go for those shades in the spring, but I still love it.
Majick says
I’ve been loving the Essie colors lately. I’ll definitely be picking up at least 3 of these (I have to think about the coral one.)
I love the tri-tone mani and would LOVE that “badass” ring. lol

They all look really lovely on you! I’m now convinced I need Cocktails & Coconut in my life.
