As an English Lit major back in school, I spent A LOT of time reading flowery fiction and pulling symbolism outta my arse. Showers weren’t merely showers; they signified rebirth. 🙂 Missing the bus didn’t simply mean I’d be late for class; it foreshadowed a late dinner, which in turn was my hungry soul’s cry for real life experience! LOLZ…
Perhaps this underlying need I have to find great significance in everyday things is why the two new nail enamels in Shu Uemura’s Egerie collection (Pink and Black, $18 each) remind me of the sweet and sour sides of this crazy thing we call love.
I blame Valentine’s Day. 🙂
Are you and Cupid on good terms this year? If so, consider warm Pink, a salmon with a touch of pearl. It’s a sweet, innocent pink, like the gooey rush of getting to know someone new.
Patience is a virtue when it comes to Pink. It goes on thick and a touch streaky, but less so when I apply it slowly using thin layers until I reach an opacity I like (I used three layers for the swatch above).
Now, however, if you and Cupid are on the outs this V-Day, keep your chin up (been there, done that, homie!), and reach for Black to show the world that LOVE BITES!!
I actually don’t know why they named this color Black because it looks more like a deep gray with dainty silver sparkles to me.
I guess “black” has a better ring to it than “deep gray with dainty silver sparkles,” ha!
Semantics aside, I think the color rocks, and I really like the finish — sort of a hybrid of a jelly and a matte polish. Oh, and you know how most glittery polishes tend to feel and look gritty once they’ve dried? — Black doesn’t (the silver glitter is incredibly fine). 🙂
And it doesn’t take much to get full coverage, either. I used just two coats for the picture above.
Overall, I’m sold on both of these polishes. They seem right at home with Egerie’s ’80s rock-in-roll vibe, but if I had to choose just one, it would have to be Black. I thought it was easier to use and more unusual than Pink (but it’s a tough call!).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ohhh… I’m definitely feeling the Black this year!
I love the way you and Rae describe it! I think I need to buy this tonight – snow storm be damned! (I have to go out anyway…)

I’m so happy that you swatched these 🙂 I liked the black nail polish better and I love the model makeup, since last year when I’ve made a post about Shu Uemura’s Spring / Summer 2010 collection. 🙂

I’m leaning towards that black polish and I like how you said that it does not feel gritty. Too many polishes with glitter have that horrid feel that makes me want to wipe it all off and start again – with something smoother 🙂

I love pink polishes but I can do without this one. I love the black though, the silver sparkles make it look like a million stars sprinkled throughout the night sky.

The pink and black look so amazing together, I always think about doing some cool combo (maybe pink nail with a black reverse-french?) but I never do!
Never Enough Nails says
OOo I like black! Sometimes black glitter polishes stink because the glitter gets kind of hidden by the black, but this doesn’t seem to have that problem!
