I like to do red and gold Christmas manis, and I’ve done them a few times over the years. I’ve also been asked a few times, usually by grunting, manly dudes, if I’m wearing 49ers colors on my nails, to which I say, “NO! This is red and gold. It’s a Christmas mani.”
For the longest time I thought this was a weird thing that only happened to me, but I was at the Kaiser lab a few weeks ago to take this really long, intensive glucose test that took three hours, and it was just me and all of the nice lab ladies kicking it old school. Well, Lacey, one of the gals who works there (hi, Lacey!), was wearing a similar manicure with red and gold glitter, and as she was drawing my blood for what seemed like the umpteenth time that day (at this point, we were already BFFs), we got to talking about her mani.
I was like, “I like your Christmas mani,” and she looked at me in complete surprise! Apparently, I’d been the only person to NOT assume she was wearing a San Francisco 49ers mani. She said that everyone, including her husband, all said (and we both said this at the same time), “You’re wearing 49ers colors!”
We had a good laugh.
So, I’m trying again this year, and I’m thinking about making this my latest Christmas mani, primarily because I love this red. It’s Dolce & Gabbana Dora 627 (it’s $27), and it’s from their holiday collection.
The gold on my accent nail is Smith & Cult Shattered Souls (and those Smith & Cult nail polishes sure have amaze-balls wear time).
Dude, Dora is intense! I’m wearing one coat here, and it’s full coverage All. The. Way.
Dolce & Gabbana recently updated their bottles, by the way (I can’t remember exactly when), but they’re squarer now and less rectangular, and I love the wide brush (it’s similar to OPI’s).
I haven’t decided yet how long I’m going to be wearing this Christmas mani, however, because of these cuties!!!
They’re from the new 2016 Essie Retro Revival collection, which comes out next month (they’re on pre-sale right now online). I’ll post swatches soon.
Even if my Christmas mani doesn’t actually make it to Christmas this year, I’m still glad I got to share it with you.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love that shade of red. I am looking for a similar shade for my lips. I want to wear a gold eye and a red lip for my anniversary dinner. I never know what shade of red. I also want to do true red nails as well.

They’re Gryffindor colors too! I love the red and gold – just finished wrapping presents, and I bought glittery markers to write tags with, and they might have to make more appearances in my every day life.

I’m also doing red and gold this year. Mine is CoverGirl Inferno nail polish with a gold accent nail. I might do China Glaze Goldie But Goodie topped with Spoiled Pirate’s Booty.

While your red nail polish is sure pretty .. it’s always fun to get new colors and fresh polish on the nails.

This is my go-to kind of nail art too! Base coat, glitter on top, et voilà, party ready!

That wouldn’t happen around here, as no one knows the 49ers in Germany. Okay, probably some do, but not the majority.
I like red and gold, very festive!

The Niners definitely did not earn a themed mani this year! >:(
