My last magical night was the final night of my trip to Kauai with El Hub last August. After dinner, we walked down to the beach by our hotel on Kalapaki Bay and took a long, leisurely stroll on the sand under the moonlight.
The moon was so full and round that night. I felt like it was just above my head, like I could reach right out grab it. We walked and talked from one end of the beach to the other while listening to a band playing somewhere in the distance. The music mixed with the sound of the waves gently lapping at our feet.
We talked about all kinds of things as we walked and watched the moonlight reflect on the water — the fun things we did on our trip, the other places we still hoped to travel, and where we saw our little family in the next few years.
It was a magical night, and I wished it would never end. I remember looking down at my feet at one point and watching the water wash over my toes…
Incidentally, I was wearing Chanel Taboo! 🙂
I love Taboo… It’s one of my all-time Chanel faves (right up there with Jade), but if I’m ever lucky enough to have a another magical night like that one, I hope I’m wearing one of the two Chanel nail polishes in the Nuit Magique collection (magical night, en Français) — ya know, to go with the whole magical theme of the night.
The two-piece limited edition collection of dark and moody colors goes on sale December 2, exclusive to chanel.com.
Both of them seem like perfect colors for a big night out. Or a big day (if you’re into deeper shades like I am).
Chanel says that Magic, a deep blue with a cream finish, was inspired by the color of the sky at daybreak (it reminds me of dark wash denim jeans when you first bring them home from the store).
Per usual, I’m wearing two coats in the swatch above, but Magic is pigmented enough for one.
It’s a tad tricky to apply with the included brush, particularly at the bottom of my nails near the cuticle, where I can usually freehand a crisp edge with most nail polishes.
Not that Magic’s totally messy or anything. Not at all. It’s just that the brush doesn’t always fan out evenly, so the edge can end up slightly choppy. To clean it up, I’ll dip a stiff angled brush into nail polish remover, and run that along the bottom and sides of my nails.
No big whoop.
Cosmic, the second shade, I LURVE! It’s a dense, goth-girl-goes-black-tie sparkling black with blue and silver pearl, and it twinkles in the light.
It’s not light on pigment, but I think Magic contains more. Where I can get away with one coat of Magic, I think Cosmic prefers two.
The slightly lower level of pigment might also be why I think Cosmic is a little easier to apply. I was able to get those nice edges that I like without having to do the trick with nail polish remover.
It’s too bad that neither of these shades will be available at Chanel stores or counters. For this magic, you’ll have to shop online at chanel.com (don’t forget the date — December 2).

Karen

Hi Karen,
These polishes are gorgeous! I would wear either of these day-to-day, but I really love dark polish. I hope you had a good Monday.

The blue reminds me a LOT of LVX in Prussian. But that black??? Oh gosh I neeeeeed that!!!

I’m marking Dec 2 in my calendar. Cosmic is dreamy!

The Cosmic looks absolutely stunning!

I love Cosmic! While looking through my (expansive) nail polish collection recently, I realized I don’t have that many black polishes, so this might be a good excuse to add another! Also, probably the only good thing about winter is being able to wear dark colors!
Allison says
I love them both but Magic is more me, and it’s a beautiful shade of blue. Maybe it’ll be on the wish list 🙂

Magic is so pretty.

Now, these are awesome shades! Chanel nailed it again!

Magic is such a pretty shade of blue! It looks so good on you Karen! I’m really digging Cosmo too. I’m loving the micro shimmers!!

Do mine eyes deceive me or has Cosmic been released before? It reminds me of a polish I bought back in… 2007 or 2008. Incidentally, my first (and only) Chanel purchase. I know I have the bottle around here somewhere…
Boy, how I loved that polish. If it is indeed the one I have from many moons ago, I’m going to pick this baby up again. I just loved how glam goth it made me feel.
Danielle says
Both of these are really nice, but I think Cosmic may be mine soon. It’s the type of glittery black I have been looking for!
Rosemary Stevens says
I love both of these but will probably pick up Cosmic.
Chanel needs to bring back Night Sky from 1997, am I right?
FreshEyre says
Oh my gosh, Rosemary, did you just bring back a great memory !!! I had Chanel Night Sky in 1998 and people thought I was crazy for wearing 1) blue nail polish and 2) such a dark color. Oh, how the times have changed, right !?!
I’m going to try both of these new polishes and wear one coat of the more sheer Cosmic over two coats of Magic and try to create the perfect blue-black-silver shimmer mani for Thanksgiving/Hanukkah – Happy Holidays to you and yours !
Rosemary Stevens says
FRESHEYRE, I’m glad someone else remembers Night Sky with fondness. 🙂 It surely was a shade ahead of its time.
Good luck with blending the two new shades. I’ll bet the combination will be pretty.
Happy Holidays!

That Cosmic color is gorgeous. Magic remind me of Sephora by OPI’s Skinny Jeans, though. Maybe a tad darker, but other than that, very similar.
Sondra says
These are both very pretty. And just FYI, they are both available at my Macy’s Chanel counter (NA) at Del Amo fashion mall in SoCal. Very limited quantities!
Alex says
Yes, that’s right Ladies! I just picked up (Black Friday Pre-Sale) Cosmic at my local Macy’s. If you want, quick pick it up as they only were given 4 Cosmic and 5 Magic nail polishes, not even the gorgeous eyeliner was included. For the entire collection you can only get at a Chanel Boutique on Black Friday. Good luck!!
