“James?”
“Yes, M?”
“Be…careful.”
“Always.”
“No, James, I mean it. This Tabs character is…dangerous. This whole playboy tabby supermodel persona of his is just a cover. We know he’s up to something… We just don’t know what it is yet.”
“What do we know about his current location?”
“We know you’re close. He was spotted last night at a Petco in Novato, and we expect him to return there tonight. He appears to have a penchant for gravy…”
“Doesn’t everyone?”
“I want you to be there when he arrives at the Petco tonight.”
“And?”
“Bring him in, James. I want you to stop that cat.”
T-minus four days till the new Bond movie unleashes suave justice on American movie goers and I. CAN’T. WAIT.
I grew up on a steady diet of James Bond. 🙂 Both of my parents loved the movies, and when I was a kid, whenever a new one would come out, my folks would pack us all up in the car, and take us to the local drive-in.
Yep, I said drive-in. We used to have an actual drive-in movie theater in our town (some years ago the lot was turned into a strip mall).
Skyfall, the latest film in the Bond franchise, opens this Friday nationwide, and OPI recently released a new 12-piece Bond movie-inspired nail polish collection of the same name.
I was taking a shower the other day when I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to do a series of makeup looks inspired by Bond girls and the colors in the new OPI Skyfall collection?
Yes, yes, I think it would. 🙂
And for the first one, how about Elektra King? She plays cat and mouse with Bond in 1999’s The World Is Not Enough.
It’s not one of my favorite Bond films — I cracked up laughing at the pained expression Pierce Brosnan makes in the unintentionally funny seduction/torture scene below — but I love, LOVE the nail polish based on the movie in the Skyfall collection!
It’s a shimmery purplish taupe with tiny flecks of glitter, and it looks almost like a silvery khaki sometimes, depending on the light.
So beautiful…
In the 1999 movie, Elektra King is played by the gorgeous Sophie Marceau. There’s a scene during which she puts JB through hell while wearing a sultry smokey eye and a full-length purple, taupe and black gown — you know, because when you’re inflicting pain upon an international super spy, why settle for sweats?
As for Elektra’s makeup, most of the smokey effect seems concentrated along her upper lash lines and the outer third of her lids. One second it looks more khaki to me; the next it’s more like a purplish taupe…
Hey, kinda like the nail polish! 🙂
In true Bond girl fashion, it’s also super seductive, but I think it’s also a little soft around the edges, which I like. I love the look, and so I thought I’d let it inspire me today…
The eyes: step by step
1. Sweep a shimmery, khaki taupe cream shadow like Benefit Skinny Jeans on your lids and into the crease.
2. Pat a shimmery, purplish taupe eyeshadow (I used MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Stolen Moment) directly on top of the cream shadow, concentrating most of the color along your upper lash lines and the outer third of your lids. Then, draw the color along your lower lash lines.
3. Enhance the smokey effect by lining your upper and lower lash lines with a dark purple liner like MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Raven. Soften the edges, and then drag the color ever so slighty into the outer corners of your eyes, finishing by filling in your brows and adding a couple coats of mascara.
The cheeks, lips and nails
The rest of the look’s a breeze. Just sweep a peachy brown matte blush on the apples of your cheeks, line and fill in your lips with a warm red shade, and paint those paws (claws?) with two or three coats of OPI The World Is Not Enough. 🙂

Lulle says
The World Is Not Enough is definitely my favourite in the OPI Skyfall collection. Such a stunning shade!
Who’s your favorite James Bond of all times? Mine is Sean Connery, and I must say I seriously hate Daniel Craig in the role… he doesn’t have the elegance of a Double Oh Seven if you ask me! I stopped watching the new movies since he started portraying Bond… That’s sad, cause I love Bond. My dad had the complete collection of videos and I kind of grew up with these movies too!
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
Aww, really? He’s my fave Bond. I love that he’s kind of a thug.
Swathi Narumanchi says
I love the new collection, I love Adele’s song and I love Bond.
Personally, I would rate Dan Craig best after Sean Connery ! He is the epitome of Ian Fleming’s vision as Bond ! And this movie does go back to actual Bond books roots. It’s an amazing picture, it released here last week, and I watched it first day , first show IMAX. I can’t explain how much I loved the picture. Bond, down, weak but man does he come back and rise up !
Karen says
Hi Swathi,
Daniel Craig is my fave Bond, hands down. Can’t wait to see Skyfall!
Jen says
Very pretty makeup look! I’ll try something similar tomorrow.
Now for my confession… I actually haven’t seen any of the Bond movies. Oops.
Also, I saw the Skyfall collection and while they were all nice, I decided I didn’t need any of them. Why oh why do you always change my mind??
Karen says
Hi Jen,
Start with Casino Royale. It’s my fave Bond movie. 😉
Swathi Narumanchi says
Casino Royale is bloody awesome ! And Eva Green was really brilliant.
I love that line –
James Bond: [after Bond has just lost his 10 million in the game, to the bartender] Vodka-martini.
Bartender: Shaken or stirred?
James Bond: Do I look like I give a damn?
Karen says
Hi Swathi,
Casino Royale is my FAVE Bond movie. I love the dialogue between Bond and Vespyr — so clever!
Marla says
That eye shadow is beautiful.
Karen says
Thanks, Marla! Do you plan on watching Skyfall?
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
You’re PREEEETY!!! I went to Skyfall last week and lemme tell you, it’s GOOD! I totally need half of this OPI collection as well. Some are REALLY pretty!
Ankita@corallista says
loved the look Karen! Your skin looks gorgeous here, what foundation/primer have you used? Dallas looks amazing on you!
Karen says
Hi Ankita,
Thank you! I’m wearing a mix of MAC Face and Body and Illamasqua Skin Base. 🙂
What foundations have you been loving lately?
Leah @ Mile High Beauty Blog says
We just watched The World Is Not Enough on TV last night! I love Sophie Marceau in it even though the movie is pretty cheesy. I had been thinking how much I wanted her eye makeup so thanks for posting! As far as my favorite Bond movie I have to say Casino Royale. You should do Eva Green’s red lip look next.
Karen says
Hi Leah,
Nice! What do you think of Pierce as Bond? His pain faces always make me laugh…
Ooh, an Eva Green look would be fun! I love her makeup in the scene with the purple dress.
Kim says
I love this look on you. And thank you for making me laugh remembering the “torture” scene. Unintentionally funny was the perfect description. 🙂 As excited as I am for Skyfall, I don’t think I’ll be able to see it until next week. I’m looking forward to your thumbs up/down, though!
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Thanks, lady. 🙂
I’m convinced that in a parallel universe we are neighbors so that we can go to movies together, LOL!
BTW — you’ve gotta see Flight. I caught it last weekend and it was excellent. Stressful, but a so, so good!
Kim says
I agree! Flight is definitely on my list; it looks great. I saw a trailer for Skyfall on TV last night and almost passed out. WAY too exciting!
Did El Hub ever get you to see Argo? If so, did you like it?
Dominique says
A very pretty makeup Karen. The World is not enough is subtle, have it but I haven’t tried it yet. I love this James Bond collection, I love the Germany collection too and I love the upcoming collection as well !
Karen says
Hi Dominique,
Thanks you!
I really love Bond girl makeup — it’s always elegant and just plain pretty.
Hope you’re feeling better today. 🙂
P.S. I’m looking forward to the Germany collection too!
Nina says
