Accent nails: yes or no?
(Where one of your nails is a different design or color.)
Quick! — don’t overthink it. Go with your gut.
For me, they’re a really cool resounding yes. I particularly like to have that extra pop of color tie into my pedicure.
For my BFF, though, they’re a strong “No.” We had an in-depth conversation about them the other day, and she was very firm on the matter. The idea of purposefully interrupting the uniformity of her manicures freaks her out.
How about you? Do you do accent nails?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Lacey says
Oh heck yes! I love accent nails because I have a helluva time deciding on just one nail color.
Also, thanks so much for the handy RyGos pictures for the bronzing tutorial. I had asked about where to put bronzer on my chubby face this weekend and those pics and instructions you posted were awesome. Now, I am bronzing with no fear and also smiling as I will now equate Ryan Gosling with bronzer. Think RyGos would let me practice my bronzing technique on him? 😉

I really hate it. I’m very boring and traditional when it comes to nails.
fancie says
All the time! Sometimes having my nails all one shade gets boring. Accent nails are so fun!
Cindy says
Yes, but usually not with a different color, just with a design. I have silk wraps and go every 2 weeks (can’t do my nails myself because I have shaky hands and I wouldn’t have ANY nails without the wraps) and I’ll have them do one of those “line designs” with glitter on one finger on each hand. If I’m using glitter topcoat or a texture polish I don’t do a design at all. The designs work best on me with plain solid colors.
Agata says
Yes! I hardly ever go for one colored nails anymore. I love applying different colors, or different textures to mix things up!
Bella says
oooh no. I’m way too square.
Shannon says
Yes yes yes please! 🙂 I love ’em.
Ericca says
L-O-V-E it!
Ruchita says
Yes, for accent nails! I think they’e a fun way to switch up a basic manicure.
Icequeen81 says
Yes, I do it sometimes, maybe another shade or just a glitter top coat.
Shelley says
I tried, but having one nail be different from the rest really triggered my OCD! Then again, I’m just not very adventurous when it comes to my nails. If I do them at all, I usually select either a nude or red or go with french tips!
Tracy says
I popped my accent nail cherry over the weekend (just on one hand) and I have to say that I really like it. It’s not something I can see myself doing with my manicure every two weeks but it might be fun once in while.
Rachel P. says
Yes yes yes! I don’t do it all the time, but I’m never opposed to the idea. Love that little accent to make things interesting!
txabela says
Sometimes I do:
-Last week I was wearing the “Cerisse” color from a cie called Soignée, got it in the April or May Birchbox, absolutely gorgeous and really long wearing (6 days non-chipping with top coat out the door) and as accent I put some glitter ( NYX) that came in another box ( lovemebeauty)
-I like to use the bright pink from Orly “Lola” and Orly “Rage” gold sort of foil as accent
-Also tend to use silver glitter or foil as accent when using blue polishes ( periwinkle to cobalt or even indigo shades)
Now I am wearing Barry M’s new “BIKINI” ( periwinkle with lavender)but no accent….. Yet.
Tatiana says
No. I do my own nails and I’m way too lazy to bother with an accent nail. I might consider it if I had them done at a salon.
Carolina says
I like to do it sometimes and when I do I tend to use something with glitter.
Kel says
I love Accent nails! Especially when you do nail art, they can look gorgeous! The only time when I don’t like accents nails is when the accent nail isn’t complimentary/doesn’t go with the other nails.
Lorraine says
Yes! love the accent nail. but sometimes it feels so predictable. I have to switch it up by doing two of them, alternate colors, nail art or different fingers. Accent ring is almost too played out, KWIM? my fave sales associate at Nordstrom does the pinky nail as her accent, which I love! I want to do the middle finger all the time, since it is tallest and breaks up the colors midsection, but I feel like I am giving the bird with my mani! LOL
Natalye says
I typically don’t but I think it looks nice most of the time
Nikki says
Definitely! I love me a cute accent nail. However, I’m in the military and when I’m in uniform my mani has to be professional, even and neat. I totally get down with the accent nail on weekends and vacation time, though! Love accent toenails, too!
Raquel says
No. I did it once and I looked like a dweebus. I think you have to be a certain level of cool for it to look intentional. Your nails always rock.
Christina says
I like accent nails, I think they’re fun. Especially when you can’t decide on 1 colour for a mani.
Poo@beautyandmakeupmatters says
I love accent nails and its usually a shimmery, holo nail paint that does the job for me!! 🙂
Dee says
Never used to but now..all the time !! Just starting switching it up from ring finger to index or thumb or pink now!
richa saxena says
I do it all the time & I love it! 🙂
Nicole says
Yes, especially when I can’t decide. Love me some glitter on my ring finger:)
Sylirael says
Most definitely! Usually, they sparkle in some way while the rest of the nails are a creme. 🙂
Angela says
Meh… Yes? Not very often. I’m not anti accent nail but its just not something I do very often. A lot if the time I end up liking the accent nail, for example, a glitter top coat, more than my others so I end up putting the glitter on all of them. Haha.
Kim says
I’m 99% with Cindy (though, I guess I shouldn’t assume it’s not Jenn!). I think my only caveat would be if it was some kind of subtle nail art on the big toe or thumb. Still, it would have to be REALLY subtle. 🙂
Meghan says
I’m all for accent nails on the toes! I think you can get away with more colors and designs on your feet than you can on your hands. Suddenly, I’m in the mood for a pedicure!
