Gasp! A break in the pink madness? Yep. Now I’m crushing big time on red lip glosses like Cherry Bomb ($17.50), a sheer red gloss from Clinique’s Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine line.
They may call it a lip plumper, but I didn’t notice a difference in pucker plumpness. Not a problem, though, because I I love Cherry Bomb’s subtle shimmer and the light red stain it delivers to my lips. It’s tasteless, odorless, non-stick and has a fab shiny finish, too. Love it!
Oy, I’m having a killer day at work today. I’m heading straight to Rite Aid after I leave to grab an ice cream and do some haulin’ (I’m thinking Rimmel lip liners, ooh!). What’s crackin’ for you this afternoon, homie? I’ll hang tough if you will!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen, if you can recommend a killer lip stain I will love you forever :] I’m currently using Stila’s new lipstain, but I’m always up for the new and fabulous, so I’m headed to my nearest macy’s this weekend to try this thing out :]

hi there, thanks for the review! i actually heard that the clinique plumping glosses don’t have an immediate plumping effect but rather work in the long-term by preventing collagen breakdown in the lips. it seems like something subtle at best, but it looks like the glosses have plenty more going for it!
Karen says
Hi Stina,
Hmmm, are you set on lip stains? I could give you a ton of gloss recs, but I’ve only tried one lip stain by Lancome…
Karen says
Hi Janine,
Good to know! I was wondering what the heck was going on with the non-plump action. 🙂

I’m up way early doing my hair cause I got a date tonight – yippeee
I think I might break out my new Lotta Colatta lip gloss from Victoria’s Secret
Karen you ever tried their lip gloss? (they smell soooo good and cheap)
Heres to hoping I get kisses tonight (smiles)
Sandy says
Another good one is sorbet I think it’s called by Chanel. It’s red lipgloss. It’s the cristalle lipgloss =)
Eru says
But girl! You don´t need any plumpers, you have gorgeous lips by themselves!:D
Some of my friends have noticed a bit of inmediate plumping with Full Lips, though. I believe it depends on the one that uses it.
May I suggest you YSL Shiny Lip Plumper? Its not a miracle, you know, but it does plump a bit my lips and its so refreshing and cute! Give it a try 🙂

I got one of these in glamour-full from the February bonus. I love the shade even though I don’t need the plumping.

Aww, Clinique was the first brand that I bought my m/u. I also bought my first lipgloss there too, Peach Fizz it was :D. Does it have that tingling effect at all? I once got a lip plumber thing from MAC and it burns my lips!
I went to Target yesterday and there were some major changes in the makeup/ skincare department. They added some major organic brands in there beside Burt’s bees like Alba, Jason, Kiss my Face. Also Milani is there. If you go to CVS, make sure you check it out. The stuff are amazing, very MAC-like and cheap!
Karen says
Hi Babyu 21,
Cute! How did you end up doing your hair? Do you have your outfit picked out yet (must not forget accessories)?
I haven’t tried their VS lipgloss, just a few of the shadows and lotions. The nearest store is kinda far from me so I don’t get to go as often as I’d like. But next time I’m there I will check it out so thank you for the recommendation!
Good luck on the date! I hope you get kisses, too!
Karen says
Sounds pretty, Sandy! I hope I can find it. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Eru,
I might give it a try. Does the YSL plumper sting or tingle? I am not into pain-for-beauty unless it involves hair removal. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Dao,
I have the same sort of nostalgia for Clinique, too, because it was the first “real” makeup I ever wore. Cherry Bomb doesn’t hurt/tingle at all. I can’t stand formulas that sting your lips, too. Ouch!
I have heard great things about Milani but unfortch I can never find it here. The closest place I ever saw it was in downtown SF ages ago.
Oh, I like Alba botanica. I haven’t used their body products in few years but remember really digging them when they first came out.
Ping. says
the colour pretty good! not too pink or dark. haha i’m pretty picky when come to glosses.. most of the time i just use lip balm.
Aleks says
Whoa, your lips look so delicious and springy! What a coinsidence, as a matter of fact: Cherry Bomb is on my (ever growing) shopping list and I think I’ll be buying it soon since I’ve been in search of the perfect reddish cherry pink l/g for a while already. Seeing it on your lips made me want to get it now. 😀 Oh, and I tried the pink Lancôme l/s today and I must say I really liked it! I was a bit too pale, but I think it’s a great summer lipstick for me, lemme know what you think when you’ve checked it out. 🙂
Shauna sounds just like my poodle Hertta! She never needs a leash either, and she’s my best friend. 🙂 She always follows me wherever I go and she even sleeps in my bed (ya, some people think it’s gross, I don’t ;P). Pitko, nevertheless, is my “dad’s dog” and she follows him and they even look like each other, lol. That’s so sweet your dad calls her his best friend, aww! 🙂
Yeah, the internet is amazing! My life would be so much more boring without it! I’ve met some truly great people via it and I got my first international penpals at the age of 15. And now I’m all excited about the makeup swapping! 😀
I hope you’re enjoying your day despite it being a killer! Tell us ALL about your haul! 😀 I got a blush brush (it was a bargain, less than $5, it was on sale) today and I’ve been lemming a fresh pair of white Converse All Stars and some tunics – something I’d never wear before, I used to be a Lacoste/Tommy H kinda girl. 🙂
I’m looking forward to your new posts! Have a relaxed evening!

Hi Ping,
You’ll probably like the MAC Tendertones, then! They are a lovely lightly pigmented balms. Unfortch they come in a pot (boo) but they are great nonetheless. 🙂

Hey K…Clinique will always be my first m/u love as well…and I still dig it quite a bit. This is a great gloss too.
So I have this HUGE…and I mean HUGE presentation due tomorrow (last year it took over a full day to present it). ANYWAY I was procrastinating last night and ordered some stuff from Sephora. One of the things I ordered was a Stila lip stain. I need something for the day at work when I can’t be bothered to reapply. So I googled and found some other makeup blog talking about lip stains. (This would be a good recommendation for the other reader…except that blog is not nearly as fun as this one IMHO http://beautyinsiderblog.com/archives/2007_10_01_archive.html). I’ve used the tarte lip stain in pink before…which is fine, but sometimes too bright for me. I have also used tarte’s cheek stains on my lips too 🙂
Oh and I’m totally rocking a pastel pink and blue eye in your honor today. It’s not the same shade of blue as yours though. I wanted to try out the NYX Pacific shadow (more of a purpley-light blue shade) and stick that I got, and I balanced it with the pink to make it more office appropriate. 🙂 I got a couple comments that it looked really good…and one crazy look from this older lady that I work with. Ha! Oh well I’m so glad it’s Friday, and I am so tired of charts and graphs and data analysis…seriously.
Karen says
Hi Aleks,
Oh yah, Clinique makes some great lipglosses! I hope you try this one out because it’s very subtle, pretty doesn’t dry out the lips.
Aww, Hertta sounds like such a sweetheart. Will you bring her along with you when you go off to school? Or will she stay at home with the folks? I don’t think it’s gross that she sleeps with you! It’s nice to have your doggie there as an extra heating pack.
I feel like this blog has opened up my international penpal world. 🙂 Have fun makeup swapping with your homies. Gotta remember to tell them to bubble wrap stuff! You don’t want anything breaking.
Today has been equally as rough. I am taking a quick break right now from work but I haven’t slept in like two nights, and I’m totally hungry right now (I was running late for work so it was like, put on makeup OR eat, and uh, I chose to put on makeup). Tomorrow I’ll have more time though, because Friday is my day off. I can’t wait to sleep, relax and blog of course.
Have a good Friday! Talk soon!
Karen says
Hi Megan,
ME TOO! I will always have a soft spot for Clinique. I have so many memories of those green milky compacts and silver lipstick tubes!
Good luck on your presentation tomorrow! Like you, I procrastinate BIG TIME when stuff is due. I used to buy stuff under deadline duress but have curbed that habit (mostly… okay not really). Thanks for the tip on the Tarte cheek stain on the lips! I have a few that I will try that with.
NICE! You are so committed to your bold makeup resolutions, BRAVO! I bet your blending looks super good!

Hi Breezy,
This Thursday is kicking my booty too. Sh*t hit the fan here at work so it’s been craaaa-zay! Good for you for going to kickboxing though, as it burns the calories, helps your heart and reduces all those wonderful endorphins!
I am STARVING, too, girlfriend. I am craving this yummy rice/curry dish from my favorite cafe and I so can’t get it until after four (that’s two hours away!). I haven’t had lunch today because I was running late and it either put on makeup or eat! What’s for lunch?
Karen says
Hi Tammy,
You’re welcome! Lemme know how you like it. It has these wonderful tiny sparkles…

Oh wow! Thanks for sending this. I will have to show my parents, heee!
Girlfriend, you ain’t procrastinating unless it’s midnight and you’re painting your nails. JK!

I’m stalking Clinique right now. As soon as a good GWP comes out I’m going to pounce!
Karen says
NICE! What are you thinking of getting? BTW, I’m wearing “Happy” today to combat my grumpiness, ha ha ha!
Amanda says
ooh-perfect! I’ve been wanting a *sheer* red gloss so I may have to pick this one up. thanks for posting!
Claire says
Hey Karen. I love your site. I love Clinique lippies! Cherry Bomb is awesome. I got a mini version of it along with three other lipglosses from Clinique. It’s a perfect subtle red on me. Idon’t notice much plumping either, but I have nice sized lips already so I don’t mind. There’s another color of this lipgloss called glamour-full that I really like. It looks like a dirty brown in the tube but it’s really a gorgeous nude pinky color. Anyway, Cherry Bomb looks really good on you.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
I also have a few more red glosses to post up… one from shu and the infamous Russian Red gloss (not so sheer though, hmm) from MAC! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Claire,
Thanks girl! Nice to meet you! 🙂 I will now have to try Glamour-full because it sounds so pretty. I love pink nudes that don’t wash me out and are easy to wear. Is Clinique your fave makeup line?
My lips were feeling dry an hour ago so I put on some Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Grapefruit and they feel sooo much better!
Glosslizard says
I want to try the Even Better skin tone corrector. I can always use a brightener in my regimen, and I like Clinique’s GWP’s because they usually throw in some color loot! 🙂

Aww **envious** I had to have Carls jr. I swear my university has the most craptacular food ever, I hate it! I hadn’t gotten a chance to eat all friggen day so I didn’t care but rice and curry sounds yummy! I only like the sweet yellow kind, can’t get enough of that. Hope you were able to hold out till then!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
I’m in mid-testing stage of that right now! I’m all beta hydroxified these days. (LOVE THE BETAS!).
Karen says
Hi Breezy,
Carls Jr. is okay in a pinch. I remember eating a lot of crap, too, when I was in college. I am with ya on the yellow curry! That’s my favorite kind. The dish I got was sooo good. It has curry mixed with rice, fresh spinach, chicken and dried cranberries. I get it at this sort of hippie cafe that serves organic and vegan meals. The best part is that they give you such a big serving, so I just eat half and save the rest for the next day. 🙂
Hope the rest of your day was good!
msnotty says
Hi there! 🙂
I’d love to add that to my collection!

Karen,
My stepmom turned me on to Clinique when I was about 14 so I’ve been kind of cautious to try other brands. Thy have amazing stuff for acne that really cleared up skin. I love their lipglosses and lipsticks, but recently I’ve branched out to other brands like MAC (Heatherette is calling me) and Chanel. I also like the new Laura Mercier collection. And of course I love all the cheap drugstore brands!
Glosslizard says
BTW, just received a mailer today… big Clinique GWP at Macy’s from April 2 thru April 20th (my birthday!). It includes 2 lipsticks, a little palette with 2 eyeshadows and a blush, a mascara, a tube of cleanser and a moisturizing lotion. Not too shabby!
Karen says
Hi Ms Notty,
You should, it’s fab! 🙂 What are your other fave glosses?
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Of course! 🙂 Dunno if you use any beta hydroxys… they are fab. I am totally converted.
Karen says
Hi Claire,
Clinique was first real makeup, too! I have acne-prone skin too, so I like a lot of the products because they don’t break me out. 🙂 It’s great though that you are trying new things. I think each line has it’s own “gems”, ya know? 🙂
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Nope, not shabby at all! I could do without the moisturizing lotion though… I’m not the biggest fan of the old school yellow stuff!
Happy early birthday, BTW!
Glosslizard says
Yeah, the yellow stuff either gets given away or goes into makeup cabinet limbo!
Thanks! 🙂
Megan says
So randomly enough I have to comment on the yellow clinique moisturizer. I too am not a user of this old school favorite. I use it from time to time when combatting extra dryness – and usually only on my cheeks then. I do however use moisture surge religiously as well as some other clinique products, so I usually do hit up the GWP a couple times a year, and it seems like I am always getting samples of the yellow stuff. A lifetime ago while i was in college I had this internship one summer that required me to travel every week…essentially I only got to go home on weekends. While travelling I forgot/lost/was out of eye makeup remover, and I used some of the yellow stuff, which for some reason I had a sample of stuck in my suitcase, on a cotton pad as an eye makeup remover. The oils in it are enough to remove most eye makeup gently and leave your sensitive eye skin moisturized. So now when I travel for work and I’m trying to fill my one quart sized plastic bag so that I don’t have to deal with checking anything, I use samples of the yellow stuff to do double duty as moisturizer and eye makeup remover…especially since it’s usually only for a couple days I don’t mind as much using products that are not my number one pick.
Glosslizard says
Ooh, good to know! Thanks, Megan!
