Over my four-day Christmas trip up and down Northern California to visit with my parents and in-laws, I relied on one particular makeup trick a little more than the others. I’m just about to hit the road back home to Novato, but first, if you like to wear different looks often but don’t usually have a lot of room to spare in your travel makeup bag, here’s one quick and easy way to increase your color options.
Pack as many colorful sticks of eyeliner as you can find, and with one quick swipe along your upper and/or lower lash lines, you’ve got a new fast, fun look.
This trip I brought MAC, Urban Decay and NARS eyeliners in gray, purple, green, gold, blue and bronze, along with my usual liners in black and brown.
That’s it! Quick and easy color that doesn’t take up much cargo space.
On the road again…
El Hub and I are loading up the car to head back home now. We had a great visit to Redding, but I sure miss my tabby, and it’s time to go home.
Speaking of Tabs, I’m sure he and his petsitter had a blast while we were gone. I just hope they didn’t leave the house a mess. They threw a rager the last time I went out of town… 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Cool tip! I like packing palettes for options.
What’s the name of that blue MAC eyeliner? I think I own it. 🙂

I also pack colourful liners when I’m travelling and want a quick way to add a punch of colour to a look. 🙂 And many eye liners can be smudged out to create the illusion of eye shadow, so you can get a lot of different looks out of them.
P.S. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Karen! And I wish you a very happy New Year! 🙂

I´d love that liner 🙂

I do that too! Especially since I don’t like messing too much with eyeshadow when I am traveling…I want to be out and about, not indoors painting my face.

Good tip :). I usually keep a green liner and black liner in my purse in case I want to use it as shadow lol. when traveling I must bring a palette though :D. May I suggest you buy some shade sticks by tarte or other shade sticks for easier application :)?

UD’s Mildew is such a versatile shade! I find I’ve been using it a lot in holiday looks, for some reason.

I do this for when I feel lazy during the work day but want to open up my eyes. Just a swipe of a different eyeliner everyday!

It’s a really good advice. Also, creamier/shadestick-ier ones could provide and okay enough eyelid colour, too :).

This is an ingenious trick! I love UD mildew, Stash, and Ransom for color pencils (and since I never use them so often I love them in travel sizes)!
It’s hard to leave Tabs behind, no? I find myself compulsively arranging everything for the cats whenever I go somewhere, but in the meantime I could leave the fridge completely empty lol. Oh well, boyfriend can find food on his own, but the cats can’t!

when we visited the inlaws, i packed a handful of eyeliners, 2 makeup forever aqua creams (one of them was my blush), powder foundation and a costco travel pack of brushes.
i also went ahead and packed a bunch of those little samples that i get when i order makeup or skincare online — those are really helpful in saving space when i travel!

When I went to NYC early December I just brought my UDPP and eye shadow sticks, a waterproof liner and mascara, 2 lipsticks and my lip balm! All fit in a small sandwich bag in my purse and took up very little space :). The shadows didn’t crease because I knew it was cold enough for my lids not to be too oily :)!! Now to start planning what to bring in my trip to Philippines where it’s going to be hot sticky and humid…maybe I won’t wear makeup at all lol.

Hey Karen! I love the silverish glitter liner in the stack! Could you PLEASE tell me what that is?! Its beautiful!

Great idea!
I have been playing with colored liners a lot too. Stila Convertible eyes are some of my fav, and their Kajal eye liners. Both do smudge but can be fixed by dabbing some shadow on top. Either similar color to the liner or a neutral one. Of course that means gotta pack an extra eyeshadow or two. Well, I do this many for work, or when I just want minimal makeup while working from home. 🙂
