Oh man, I’m scurrrred of those puffs! The one time I used it, I walked out of the house got in the car and my hubby says “whoa what’s on your face? Flour?” I guess I don’t know how to blend with it.. so I stuck to my good ol’ brushes.
I’m lovin’ the powder puff recently. As you said, it covers everything and my face stays matte a lot longer. What kind of camera do you use to film these videos? They look sharp and nice 🙂
I love watching your videos!!!
You’re so fun to watch and the way you talk… you grab this attention that everybody should just listen. *smiles*
Thanks for this info! it is really helpful.
You can apply pressed powder without foundation. I actually do that all the time, like if I’m just tooling around town or hanging out. Colored pressed powder (like MAC Select Sheer) evens out skin and cuts shine. Translucent (like MAC Blot) cuts shine. If you don’t need a lot of coverage (ie, your skin is in good shape) or if you don’t like the heavy feeling of foundation on your face using powder only is a great option.
I have the MAC blot powder too, but I didn’t really like the puff that came with it 🙁 So I started using a circular sponge instead to apply the powder to my face. Do you think using a brush would be better than using a sponge? And if so, what kind of brush should I get? Thanks so much for all your help!
A circular sponge will give you heavier coverage than a brush. I’ve used both and prefer a brush for everyday wear. I like Sonia Kashuk’s Powder Brush.
I feel like such a dork right now. I have a Canon PowerShot, and I never knew it could take videos like that. I just assumed the videos had no sound so I never even tried out that function. I should have read the instruction manual more carefully!
I love your videos by the way. 🙂 You’re so bubbly!
I too use MAC Blot in Medium Dark, even though I am quite a bit paler than you. I wouldn’t have thought to get that shade, but the girl at the MAC store said it would work for me, and since it’s so sheer, it doesn’t deposit a lot of color. I also have it in Light, but I only use that one when I’m going for the porcelain pale look (usually smokey eye winter looks, or when I wear super bright lipstick).
Yup, your Powershot has a mic. You will have to try recording video sometime. 🙂 Just hold the camera really still so you don’t have too much shakiness in the shot.
I love the MAC blot powder as well and I like to use it with my ecotools kabuki brush when I’m on the go (just like you). However, I feel that it’s hard to pick up the product with the ecotools kabuki brush. Do you have this same problem? I’m not sure if it’s because my blot powder is almost finishing, as I bought the kabuki brush well after my blot powder was on the halfway point. Right now, I can see the middle gray part of the compact. Let me know!

Hi Luv J,
Don’t be scurred of the puffs! They are your friends, LOL! 🙂
Oh — one thing you could do to reduce the heavy look is to lightly dust off the excess with a brush.
YadiQ says
wow karen your tan is so awesome!
send me a suntan please lol
cool vid! very informative! i usually just use brushes cause i tend to be heavy handed
Karen says
Hi Yadi,
I will put you at the top of the list should tan transplants ever been available. 🙂
I tend to use brushes, too… I’ll go for puffs for big events with pics, like weddings and the like.

Hi Anne,
Aww, thank you! I am always happy to help! 🙂
How’s your day going? Mine’s pretty good for a Tuesday… I’m getting sick though, boo!
Caitlin Plavala says
This might be a stupid question but can you apply pressed powder if you are not wearing foundation? Like would it help at all?
Karen says

What happens if you switch them? Brush with loose and puff with pressed? I think puffs with pressed can give a chalky, cakey look though.
Karen says
Hi Heather,
You’ll get a chance in coverage. Using a brush with loose powder will give a more sheer look. A puff with pressed with create a heavier look.
I rarely use puffs with pressed powder; I usually opt for brushes.
shontay says
I use my kabuki brush with my loose powder. It really covers everything without feeling heavy. Thanks for the videos, Karen.
Karen says
Hi Shontay,
Kabuki brushes are awesome! Which one do you have? I use the MAC one and I love it.
Anastasia says
hmmm now more decisions… HD Hi-def powder or Mineral Veil?! LOL
Karen says
Hi Anastasia,
LOL! Decisions, decisions…
I’ve never used Mineral Veil but I know a lot of women like it.
