Make Up For Ever Glossy Full Couleur Lip Gloss Plus Your Favorite Pair of Earrings Equals Easy Makeup Tip

Published in: Makeup Tips/How To

My brain was farting up a storm today. It took me forever to figure out what lip gloss I wanted to wear.

It was like rocket science or trying to build a better mousetrap or something. I dunno…

Finally, out of desperation, I reached for a tube that just so happened to match the earrings I had on (!).

Choosing a lip gloss to wearIf you’re ever at a loss for lip gloss and can’t decide on a color to wear, try a shade that matches a pair of colorful earrings.

In my case the color was Make Up For Ever Glossy Full Couleur Gloss in #3, a creamy coral with a ton o’ shine.

Check out the teeny sample tube (the full-size .33-oz tube costs $19).

Isn’t it cute?

Right now Sephora has a set of three Glossy Full Couleur Glosses on sale for $35 (a $57 value) that comes with full-size tubes in #3 (coral), #1 (cherry) and #4 (fuchsia).

I’m not exactly sure why the matching lip gloss/earrings combo trick works, but I’m guessing that the pops of similar color in such close proximity reinforce the presence of the primary shade — HA! Listen to me sounding like I have any idea what I’m talking about. :)

Highlight of your Thursday?

What was yours?

I think mine was the few minutes I spent checking out the new Paul & Joe fall makeup collection (codenamed Collection Sparkles) online.

What do you think of the packaging? The navy blue Siamese kitty lipstick/eyeshadow set is hella calling my name, ME-OW!

Another point, both the earrings and the gloss go nicely with your top! Well played! :)

Oh! I was drooling over that collection too! I want all the kitty makeup! It doesn’t hurt that the colors are nice too!

The highlight of my day was ducking into Sephora while back-to-school shopping for the kids and grabbing Frigid! Yay!

  2. Kate & Zena says:

Hm, I like the collection with the purple/pink flowers. I like the packaging.

Whenever I have no idea which lip gloss or lipstick to use, I somehow go to the new Wet n’ Wild’s Aura lipglosses now. It starts out clear and changes to your customized pink. It takes a while though (like 10 minutes) but it’s fun. I have both shades (subtle and intense).

Zena is chilling out on the La-Z-Boy. She’s been a crabby terrier today. Very, very crabby. I think she’s having a Diva Day.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kate & Zena,

That sounds like fun! It’s been years since I’ve worn a Wet & Wild lipstick. Back in the late 80s/early 90s I remember them having a very distinct smell and taste… are they still scented?

Aww, Zena is just being the warrior princess that she is! Diva Doggy!

  3. Stephie says:

Haha. I like that, matching your lipgloss with your earrings. These should be your random beauty tips of the day :P

I love Paul & Joe packaging. It kinda has this playful dainty-ness to it :)

  4. Nicole says:

Yeah, wow, good thinking with matching the lip gloss with your earings. It looked like a well-put together outfit. It looks lovely with your skin tone!

Hmm, what was my highlight? Basically, I dread Thursdays because of piano lessons, and I never feel ready for piano. But when my teacher came outside to talk to my dad, she said I’m well past her students that have been taking lessons longer! (I’ve only been playing for 2 years!)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Nicole,

That’s great! :) Do you enjoy playing? And what of music do you play?

I played classical piano for over 10 years (mostly against my will). I hardly play these days, though. I gotta say it certainly has helped with my typing speed, LOL!

  5. Marisol says:

You look great. Such a great summer look. The packaging looks cute. Never tried their products though.
    .-= Marisol’s last blog post… Happy Anniversary! =-.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Marisol,

I have a few of their lippies and glosses and like them. I tried their foundation a long time ago — it’s *very* yellow.

Anyway, how was your day? Are you ready for the weekend?

  6. shontay says:

    Hey Karen,

Looking pretty, as usual. I’m smiling at you using Makeup Forever. My fave! LOL

My highlight for today was taking a long overdue nap. I was knocked out for most of the evening.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Shontay,

Glad that you got the chance to get some zzzz’s. Naps = heaven. My best ones happen on lazy Sunday afternoons… sigh!

What do you think of these glosses? I think I might have to spring for a few full-sized tubes. :)

  7. Hafsa says:

This color works very well with your skin tone, plus its so summery :) I’m gonna have to check out these glosses now!
    .-= Hafsa’s last blog post… Arrgh =-.

  8. Tekoa says:

Thanks for pointing out the cat themed makeup! Fashionista Luna definatly approves of the design. Did you know cats can teach lessons on beauty? Jasper was born with a stubby tail but she struts along the catwalk like any other feline. Confidence is a great skin illuminator. ;)

  9. Solé says:

Those colors look great on you! So summery. :) I love the navy blue siamese kitty one too!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Sole,

Thanks! Summer took forever to get to the Bay, but it’s finally here… I figure I might try and work this small window while I can, ha!

What’s going on with you? Anything exciting plans for the weekend?

  10. Babybubblz says:

Oooh, pretty lipgloss! Great tip for color matching =) Your eyelashes very pretty in this photo, what are you wearing??

  11. shontay says:

    Hey Karen,

You might be surprised, but I never bought one of these glosses. I never know what color to get. I just get overwhelmed. That’s why I haven’t even tried their lipstick, either. I have so many mac colors, it’s hard to find a unique one. Plus, I have pigmented lips, so I’m not sure if this would show up on me and I am all about bold lips.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Shontay,

That’s how I feel about eyeshadow sometimes. So many choices, so little time. :)

I have been re-visiting some of my old school MAC colors as of late. I’m really loving “O”. Do you have that one?

  12. Karen B says:

I’m such a sucker for great packaging!

  13. Tavia says:

I like this lipgloss but in a different shadem like Fuchsia pink or Deep Rose. What can I do, if I’m addicted to pink. Karen you have such a fresh air in this photo, you smell like summer and a vacation to Bora Bora.
.-= Tavia’s last blog post… Trend: discreet shine with Lancome Juicy Tubes =-.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Tavia,

I hear ya. Pink lip gloss is an addiction I suffer (!) from too.

Do you have a favorite pink lippie? One of my faves is MAC Nymphette Lipglass.

  14. Luinae says:

When I can’t choose a lipgloss, I just randomly draw one from my makeup bag. That way I don’t have to think- and it’s just lip gloss right?

I may try this trick now, thank you!

  15. jojoba says:

that’s a beautiful colour on you. i tried the original colourless version but the ultra strong minty smell & the coolness scared me off. never have i tried any coloured ones…

  16. Rachel says:

The coral gloss and earrings look really flattering on you. I would def. try the makeup shade + matching jewelery idea. zOmg. I almost died when I saw the P&J makeup packaging. So cute with the cat and I love the pansies.

  17. Michelle says:

I got that exact sample from Sephora and my daughter swiped it (she’s not even allowed to wear makeup yet!!). Anyways, great tip and the color looks gorg on you.
There are too many great collections coming out — I am going to have to win the lottery or something :)

  18. Nicole15 says:

Gosh you look so summer gorgeous Karen & i really am loving the little MUFE glosses. They are adorable. Perfect for purse or beach bag. Hmmmmm…i smell a purchase coming on.

  19. Glosslizard says:

    Good morning!

I haven’t played yet, but I’m planning a look today using the taupey-brown from the Armani #4 duo on the lid, MAC shadow in either Of Summer or Winter Sky (pretty much the same color but one’s shimmery and one’s satin) at the inner corner and Frigid on the lash line and a little in the crease. Prolly Brulee for the browbone. I think it will be super-pretty! :)

  20. gio says:

The gloss looks very flattering on you!

I’m drooling over that collection too. The packaging is very pretty!

Oh my, I’m dying over that gloss color! You look like you are still in Hawaii, so pretty.

Paul and Joe makes so divine packaging, don’t they? What’s inside is rather good too.

that’s a great tip! maybe not when i’m wearing my green earrings though :D

  23. Marce says:

The explanation for the gloss & earrings actually sounds scientific, LOL. At the moment I’d have to wear silver lipstick, prettay! Cute FOTD and collection, I’m sure Tabs is all over it :D

  24. Tiffany says:

You look SO CUTE in that photo! Love the idea!

I so want that set of three glosses now… I have been wanting to try that gloss for a while, but could never decide which shade to try (I seem to have this problem a lot)…

  25. JASMINE says:

I realize this is a makeup blog….but where did you get those awesome hoops?

  26. Kate & Zena says:

    Karen,

The Auras aren’t scented or flavored or I wouldn’t be wearing them all the time (we all know my sensitivity to scent). The ones that tend to be scented are those with names like “cotton candy” or “sparkly orchid” (the orchid one is a sparkly loose white eyeshadow that caused a massive migraine, it got trashed) and I avoid them like the plague. The Aura ones are the only WnW lip glosses I’ve used in a while.

  27. Tiffany says:

    You look beautiful, Karen!

  28. Diyana says:

Love your dress/earrings/make up!!! You look beautiful :)
