I’ve realized that for an obsessive makeup lover, I don’t follow the beauty trends very much at all.
Contouring? I’ve always been a fan of a lightweight base, and the less products I use on my skin, the better.
For the sake of experimenting, I’ve tried to apply concealer in a reversed triangle shape under my eyes, and even that was too much for me. I couldn’t stand the feeling of concealer beneath the area where my dark circles are. Heavy contouring is definitely not for me. A subtle contour powder under my cheekbones is as far as I’ll go with the trend.
Strobing? Well, I’ve been naturally strobing since the early 2000s thanks to my pesky sebum overproduction, so no need to douse myself in highlighter.
Color correcting? Because of my hereditary dark circles (Sebum overproduction… Hereditary dark circles… Sexy, eh?), I’ve been using Bobbi Brown’s or a similar peach-toned corrector for years, and they work. Should I switch to bright orange just because it’s on trend? I don’t think so.
See what I mean? This mama’s not much of a trend follower…but I actually do like one of the latest makeup crazes, called “sun-stripping.” Who would’ve thought?
Have you heard of sun-stripping before? It’s easy-peasy! It consists of placing bronzer on the part of the face that usually tans first if you spend much time in the sun. It’s that little strip that runs from one apple of the cheek to the other.
It might look a little silly, but I find it kinda cute. Maybe that’s because I don’t naturally get a sun strip… If I spend time in the sun, I just turn brown all over straight away. No redness, no sun strip. We always want what we can’t have, don’t we?
Like freckles. Lots of people who have them try to cover them up, while so many others who don’t are now faking them with makeup…
YEP, fake freckles are yet another beauty trend, which apparently goes hand in hand with sun-stripping. Not for me, though… Too time-consuming, LOL!
So, what do you think? Are you going to give sun-stripping a go this spring and summer? And what about fake freckles? Would you have the patience to draw them one by one with makeup?

I read about sun-stripping a few days ago and had basically the same thoughts: At least one trend that I can maybe follow! Although I have to admit, I have been dabbling in contouring lately, but only for filming purposes. The other trends… Just like you I strobe naturally and use Bobby Browns peachy corrector.

It takes 5 seconds and looks kinda natural,so why not? 😉

I’d seen this before, but never heard the term “sun-stripping.” I think it’s really cute to do with bronzer or blush in the summer. I never tan IRL (just burn & peel), so I wear sunscreen and fake a little sun with makeup.
Carolina Braina says
Faking it with makeup is definitely better for the skin.

Step 1 it’s easy! This is a trend I can get into but I did not know it was called sun stripping. It makes it sound so risque lol!

Haha!

I think it’s cute! on me I think it would have to be less of a parallel line… and definitely more pink. I’m pretty fair in the face and I have high cheekbones (which I wasn’t aware was what I had until I began getting gushed at when other people do my makeup for me, lol… who knew? 🙂 ). Anyway, because of that, in the sun I’ll get flushed across my apples *and* cheekbones, because they really are the highest points on me. then in my nose, it’ll pink itself up higher across the bridge than I see bronzed on you, like a tiny bit right at the very top juust at the bottom of my eyes.
I could definitely see this being more natural in me than normal bronzer though, which I have a heck of a time with, and have been unsuccessfully trying to get a handle on for weeks now as summer draws nearer!
Carolina Braina says
Yeah, a little bit of pink would definitely look more natural on me as well!
If you give “sun-stripping” a go, let me know if it works for you! 🙂

Oh my goodness I’m SO happy I’m not the only one who does this. I almost never see it on blogs or youtube so I thought I was crazy. This is how I most regularly apply my bronzer. 🙂

Carolina Braina says
Haha! Yeah, I often apply bronzer/blush in that area as well, just not so heavy-handed! 😉
Domi says
Since I tan like this I try to avoid it at all costs. The freckles, no freckles conundrum. I will not jojn this trend, I will stick to the classic number 3-application of bronzer.
Carolina Braina says
I have a feeling that most of those who tan like that will want to avoid this! 😉
Kristina says
I like the look, but I think it would be even better on you with a less orange-toned bronzer (more brown/natural tan) and just a touch lighter application on the nose (cheeks look good). 🙂
Carolina Braina says
I completely agree! I’m always very light-handed with my blush and bronzer, which means they rarely show up on camera. Here it was crucial that the bronzer would show up, so I was VERY heavy-handed… and it turned out to be a little bit too much!;)
I’ve experimented a little more since these pictures, and the best/most natural-looking way to do this on me is to layer a bit of pink blush on top.
Erin says
I have yet to find a bronzer I can afford to use that liberally! Being as fair as I am, it’s rough!
hanna says
I’ve never heard of this before!

I’ll be honest, I don’t like it. There’s something about adding color to my nose that disturbs me. Totally irrational I know. Plus, if I stay in the sun I don’t tan in a strip (I usually burn actually) but in diffused areas on the cheekbones, top of forehead, top of the nose. Not the sides of the nose, you see what I mean?
Anyways, I’m also not a trend follower when it comes to makeup, and I’m still not getting on board with this new one!
Carolina Braina says
Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is something many people will dislike! 😉
MichelleChefNYC says
I may be alone here, but to me this looks really unflattering… like an awkward orangey stripe across what should be the high planes of the face… it just lacks continuity or something, like even if you did get some sun, your forehead and chin would get some color too, so this just looks odd…
Carolina Braina says
Oh, you’re not alone, other readers have said they don’t like this! 😉

You’re lipstick is so pretty! Not feeling the cheek and nose stripe though.
