Winged liner.
Sometimes I wanna wear it with eyeshadow; sometimes I wanna wear it with eye gloss.
Yeah, that’s right! Eye gloss — the super shiny stuff, which isn’t known for being eminently wearable, not with that glistening, glossy finish that gleams and beams, but I think it can look super cool when paired with something unexpected like winged liner.
In this look, I love the contrast between the glossy, wet-looking lids and the crisp black liner. It’s like I just got back from charging the waves! Surfer girl meets sassy secretary. 🙂
Make the red lip a matte, and you’ve got an unusual, interesting twist on a classic black winged liner-red lip combo.
The best part of this look is that it’s easy to do, which for me makes it perfect for Fridays when my mind is on other things (like pumpkin spice lattes).
Starting with bare lids, just curl your lashes if you need to (mine are pin straight, so this is a must). Then draw your winged liner, and tight-line your upper water line.
Wait for the liner to dry, and then apply and pat a clear eye gloss on your lids from lash line to brow bone (I don’t go too far into the inner corner with the gloss; otherwise, it starts to look heavy and a little weird).
Finish by loading up your lashes with mascara.
That’s it! A fabulous Fri-yay look. 🙂
The eye products I’m wearing in this look (plus the lippie)

- Chanel 88 Noir Intense — tight-line
- Rouge Bunny Rouge Smithereens of Stars Eye Gloss — eye gloss
- Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Black — lashes
- L’Oreal Riche Collection Exclusive Red Lipcolor in 401 Julianne’s Red — lips

P.S. Uh! TGIF!
What are you doing this weekend? I’m gonna clean the house from top to bottom because — OMG! — El Hub said that he saw a mouse in the kitchen this morning, and I JUST CAN’T DEAL.
Actually, I’m kind of disappointed that Tabs wasn’t on it, but I guess old man Tabby has been too busy catching up on his beauty sleep…
Nevertheless, I intend to use this as an opportunity to convince the company to hire a younger, friskier, hungrier mouser kitty coworker from the ASPCA. So far, however, my lobbying hasn’t been met with enthusiasm… Baby Girl and I are the only ones in favor of the idea, boo-hoo.

Per usual, you manage to make this look stunning. My lids are so oily naturally that I could probably bottle it & sell it. Wouldn’t have thought to apply the liner first but it makes perfect sense. If you think you’re cleaning up like a mad woman now, just wait until you start nesting, you’ll prolly clean your building. Surprised that Tabs isn’t open to more feline employees to boss around. It’ll make liter work for him. But I guess he’s territorial. In other news, I’m headed to Ulta once I’m done with my delicious sushi/salad lunch. Soap & Glory here I come 🙂

Gorgeous! Does the eye gloss not break down the rest of your eye makeup? I’ve always loved this look but I’m worried about performance of my liner and mascara.
Karen says
Nope! You need to use your most waterproof, sturdiest liquid liner. I did tests with the gloss and different liners on the back of my had first; Tom Ford’s was the best (no big shocker there) and MAC Superslick came in second (although you have to be careful not to lift it off). I think the MAC Liquidlast would work great too, and I would’ve used it but can’t find my tube, boo!
How is my sweet Sarah doing today?

That red lipstick was made for you–so beautiful! It sounds like Tabs was slacking on his mousing duties. The tiniest bug doesn’t even slip by my cats, but I have four of them! ?

This is purr-fection!!!

Karen, you look gorgeous as always, but that’s a great combination on you. I have that lipstick and I love it! As far as mice…I unfortunately have become somewhat of an expert. Not that I wanted to, mind you! We moved last year to a beach house with fields of corn and wheat, and the house had been vacant for a while, so many mice moved in and brought all their friends. If you want to e mail me, I would be more than glad to tell you how we eradicated them. Like you, it was not something I wanted to deal with! Best of all, none of what we used will hurt you all or your dear Tabs. I would love to be of help!

How is the lasting power of this look? I heard the glosses crease like crazy and tend to break down the liner.
Trude says
That red is amazing on you! 🙂

I usually use a little salve over my eyes and mix it with a hint of champagne shimmer.
Rachel R. says
It looks beautiful on you, just like everything else.
I have such oily eyelids, that I’m spent most of my life combating this type of look. lol The gloss would probably crease like crazy on me. I’m more of a shimmer gal for the eyes.

I totally vote yes to adding a new mouser into the mix. Tabs will have to approve of him/her though. 🙂 It will keep him more active as he gets older too which is good for the figure.

I adore glossy lids, too bad this is not a very practical loo. PS. Second photo is killer!
Chelsea says
Love the shape of the liner!
Jiji’s a pretty great mouser – we had a real mousie problem at our old place, Jiji would bring me one or two a week at one point. Gross! Once in a while he didn’t kill them – like, a live one was in one of Zack’s shoes, so I just threw his shoes away.

I’m usually not a fan of glossy lids but I think it’s a great addition to this classic look!
A mouse?? Oh noes!!
When my hubby was preparing the camping gear for our trip to Kauai, he had to go to the basement to get some stuff from a box and he found a dead rat in that box. 😡
I don’t go to the basement anymore, lol!

You look absolutely beautiful, where at the drugstore do you get eyegloss. I want to try but not spend a lot as I doubt would use it much. Any help appreciated.
Nicole says
The eye gloss looks effortless and classic. ❤️
Kiss & Make-up says
Dang, you really made that glossy lid work! When I first saw it on the runways I didn’t think anyone could ever translate it into a wearable look, but you totally did it.
Lena says
oooh, i’d have to try this. i think it’d be perfect with the ‘lena’ gloss from the mac giambatista valli collection. 😉

Oh no Karen! Not Tom Ford!! I have already heard so many good stuff about tom ford eyeliner. But It is so expensive and the kat von D one still works good enough for me. However, this look is stunning! I was telling myself: I need that liner, before reading the whole post…. Unfortunately, it is indeed Tom Ford. Can you comment if it is really phenomenal and worth the penny??? Thanks!!
