LOL! That’s me trying to make a “Shhh!” face, as in “I have secret to tell you, shhh!” Believe it or not, getting it just right on camera is a lot harder than it looks, shhh! Who knew?
Before I get distracted yet again by goofy pics and this delicious cup of coffee (GOOD MORNING!), can we talk brows? 🙂
If you fill in your brows with brow powders, pencils or gels (or maybe a combination of all three, which I do sometimes), do you ever find the products vanishing halfway through the day? It can be kind of a pain.
With that in mind, here’s a tip to help keep those beautiful brows from disappearing.
Start by grabbing your favorite colorless eye makeup primer. If you don’t have one yet, there are lots of good ones out there to choose from, like Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Tarte Clean Slate and Urban Decay Primer Potion, among others. I’m using NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base here, which is my current go-to eye makeup primer.
Apply a small amount of your primer directly atop your bare brows…
Then, pat it down with a finger to work the product down between the follicles into your skin.
After that, just fill in your brows as usual. As for products and brushes, I’m a MAC Concrete eyeshadow and 266 Small Angle Brush kinda gal, myself.
Layering the primer beneath your brow products should help extend the wear time of powders, pencils and gels, keeping your eyebrow makeup looking fresher, longer.
No more MIA brows, yay!
Yes, I’m a makeup nerd, and little things like this really do get me fired up. 🙂
What a fangtastic season so far!
Finally got the chance to catch up on True Blood last night, and OMG! What the heck is happening?! All hell is breaking loose in Bon Temps, y’all. I can’t even begin to predict what’s going to go down next!
LOVED Vampire Pam’s awesomely ’80s crimped hair…
I rocked this style circa 1989
Oh, boy. I may have to break down and look for a crimping iron at Target today…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Thank you for this tip!!! I will be using it TODAY!!!!

You’re welcome, Beverly! 🙂

Wow.. i’m so doing this tomorrow morning as i get ready! Thanks!

The crimped hair was CRAZY. I’m so excited for the season… I read the books that True Blood is based off of, and this season is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
My mentor-professor also has a pic of Russel Edgington, because they were filming when she was down in New Orleans for a conference with the Academy of Marketing Science. Too bad she didn’t catch Alexander Skarsgard for us…
My brow pencil stays in place pretty well, but I’ll try this! I have very sparse brows, and I hate not having them filled in. This would be perfect for the gym too (because while I’ll go without foundation there, I need to have my brows done!)

That’s a great tip, hadn’t thought of that. I don’t draw or fill in my own brows but I often do it on models. Maybe if I use this tip, I won’t have to go all: “Nonononono, don’t touch your face!” on them during shoots 😉

Glittergeek Arianne used make up for ever’s waterproof brow corrector. Looks interesting 🙂 here is the link: http://www.glittergeek.ca/2012/07/omg-you-need-this-make-up-for-ever-waterproof-eyebrow-corrector-review-photos-swatches/

Great tip!

This is a great tip! I sometimes will use the sealant from Benefit, but I don’t like how it makes my brows feel after–so I will give this a try next time. Thanks Karen!

I actually pulled out a mirror to check my brows so I could see if my pencil had disappeared. I’m fairly sure most of it is gone, so I’ll add a colorless primer to my list! 🙂
Aside from Pam’s hair, did you not love Russell? He was making me laugh with his “oops, forgive me Lilith” and mock prayer hands. The karaoke was cute too. Well, until the end. 🙂

I discovered this tip by accident — it does keep the brow product on really really long! 🙂
And superYAY for Pam’s crimped tresses – LOVE!
Lulle says
Great tip, I never heard (or even thought…) about it before!

I never fill in my brows. I wonder if I am missing something? Anywho – do you have a triple barrel waver? Wondering how that works? ♥

Karen,
you must not have tried the TARTE BROW MOUSSE yet because this thing has replaced ALL my brow pencils, powders, gels, etc.
I put it on in the morning before work at 7am and it stays with me ALL day, and sometimes even through sweaty workouts (as long as I dont rub it off).
I have it in Medium Brown. its been a year and i haven’t even made it through half the tub. it lasts forever. you only need a tiny bit , looks natural, and did i mention it comes with teh application brush? OH YEAH!

I like these tutorial posts. You should start a new category and do one every week. 🙂 Call it “Tutorial Thursday” or something.

WHY have I not thought about this sooner. Genius, Karen!

I’m cant remember the last time i saw a crimping iron! but i would love to try that hair soon!
Alison says
What a great idea! I will be trying this soon. Also, I am in love with your blog and Tabs. 🙂

Karen you impress me day after day! a great tip from my # 1 makeup blogger Karen
I will surely try that, and btw my favorite primer is NARS! x
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Thanks for the tip, Karen! My eyebrow powder usually stays on, but I’ve tried this before. I find it slightly harder to blend sometimes (but maybe it’s just UDPP. I just laid my hands on NARS Smudgeproof and I hope it doesn’t cause the same problem), but for some reason it’s easier for my brows to keep their shape that way!
vnssa906 says
YAY my eyebrows won’t disappear anymore lol… I usually spend a good 5 minutes perfecting my eyebrows to look FIERCE, and by 11am, they’re gone lol
and YESSS, Pam’s hair was all sorts of awesome. The episode was a little all over the place, but it caught us up with EVERYONE in Bon Temps!

For a while I was seeing people crimp just a few locks of hair to add texture to otherwise straight styles.
I’ve been loving using Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel lately, but when I’m not using it, I was using MAC Blackberry for ‘normal’ colored brows, and Sugarpill Velocity or Poison Plum or 2AM to match my crazier colors.
Boo - Insane Bazar says
Wonderful advice! I will try it!

sounds like a great tip! just wondering though, can you use a colorless faceprimer instead of a eyemakeup primer?
