Hey, man, I’m not about to get up in the middle of The OA just to touch up my lipstick, because Netflix marathoning is serious business.
LOL! #forrealtho
Follow these three steps to longer-lasting lipstick, and you may never have to hit “pause” again.
1. Prep those lips!
Prepping and priming your lips will turn your pout into a perfect canvas. Use a lip primer and/or a lip-prepping product, and I know that MAC makes one. I used it a long time ago and thought it was OK, but you know…you can also prep your lips with something you might already have in your makeup bag — liquid foundation or liquid concealer.
Just dab a tiny amount of either one on your lips, and spread it all over for an impromptu lip primer.
2. Grab that lip liner
After outlining your lips, fill them in with the same liner (Because why would you use two different lip liners? Dude, it isn’t 1995 anymore.) to give your lipstick a smooth, waxy base coat (here’s how I do it).
Lastly…
3. Apply your lipstick
You can do it straight from the bullet (hello, lazy lady), or you can use a lip brush, but I think a brush does help my lipstick last a little longer.
There’s something about a lip brush that really gets the product in there as close as possible to the skin, and for whatever reason, my lipstick lasts longer.
But it’s not a huge difference… You definitely don’t have to do it.
Either way, apply your first layer, then blot it with a tissue, and then add a second layer.
By following these steps, you’ll help your lipstick last up to its potential, instead of just having one product on your bare lips clinging to them for dear life.
And for EXTRA wear time
Lightly dust a bit of loose translucent powder (or blush) on top of your lipstick using a tapered blending eye brush or your finger. Just pat the powder directly on top for superb wear time (note: this also gives your lipstick a matte finish).
My new dutch oven
Let’s not even go there about how late I am with my Christmas shopping this year.
*sigh*
Anyway, while I dueling with other shoppers at Target yesterday, I spied with my smoky eye this 6 quart Threshold Dutch Oven (WITH A LID! LOL). It was on sale for $39.99 (full price: $49.99).
I’ve been wanting a dutch oven for ages, so I splurged and got myself one. Merry Christmas to me! 🙂
The first thing I’m going to make with it is this coq au vin recipe I found on reciptetineats.com.
Oh, that website… Their food photography is out of this world! I made one thing from the website so far, a cashew chicken dish, and it was… I don’t even have the words to describe how good it was. It was that good.
That dutch oven better look out, woo hoo!
Your friendly neighborhood lipstick addict,
Karen

Love the tips! I need to remember to try priming with concealer…
And WOOHOO for Dutch ovens! Can’t wait to hear about the delicious morsels you cook in that baby!

Do you have a Dutch oven? I need some recipes!

I just read somewhere that you should kind your lips after you put lipstick on if you don’t want that obvious outline when your lipstick wears off like after you eat or whatever. What do you think? Dutch ovens seem like a kitchen staple but being a vegetarian I’m not sure I would use it all that much…
Rachel says
*line not kind!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
I’ve done that before too, and it also can look good, but my lipstick definitely doesn’t last as long as when I do the liner first. I think what makes liner really useful is filling in the lips with them before the lipstick so there’s a base for the lipstick to grab onto.
Anywho, you can use Dutch ovens for veggie chili and soups (like French Onion soup, yum yum!).

I am so lazy with all these extra steps, I tend to prefer to touch up. Or just let go of my lipstick once I am at home.
Karen says
I get that way too sometimes, but sometimes, like for events, it’s nice to have some extra staying power, ya know?
I hope that you had a nice Friday. Where will you guys be celebrating the holiday this year?
Kiss & Make-up says
For me it’s all about applying, blotting and then reapplying. And doing the dab-it-on thang rather than swipe it on.
Karen says
Yes! That extra layer makes all the difference.
Merry Christmas! 🙂

Exfoliating with a toothbrush also helps it last longer because you’re sloughing off all that unnecessary skin.

That dutch oven comes in so many pretty colors! Which color did you get for yourself?
Thanks for the link to the cooking site. So many good recipes.
I’ve never been to upset by my lipstick not lasting very long. I’ve always enjoyed the process of reapplying lipstick.
Merry Christmas!
Karen says
Hi Tatiana!
Nice to hear from you. 🙂 Are you in Paris with your daughter?
Anywho, I ended up getting the white one to match the white cast iron pan I also got from Threshold. If you end up making any recipes from that site let me know! I’m about to prep the potatoes for Julia Child’s Potato Dauphinoise.

Back home now. Still trying to get back onto local time. The trip was too short. So many more things I wanted to do and so many more places I wanted to see. Oh well, will have to get Dear Husband to take me back.
Don’t be surprised if I show up on your doorstep begging for some of those potatoes. Just kidding. Yummy!!
Hope you and your husband have a wonderful first Christmas with Connor Claire!

Hi Karen ,
I have many lip liners but I love the Wetn wild 666 ! It covers all colors and is only a dollar !
And I do love all the matte colors in my life !
I did find an eyeliner I like ( I only have 200 )
Flower at Walmart makes a Plum or brown ; it’s dark enough to be black but it smokes well !
Merry Christmas to you and your family and especially Connor Claire ! ☃️?????

Hi Michele,
That’s an old fave of mine! I used to wear it back in the day with Clinique’s Black Honey. That combo was my jam circa 1994!
And thank you for the Flower rec; I’m going to be in my parent’s town, and they have a Walmart close to their house so I might stop by if I have time. I could easily get lost in the makeup section there.
Merry Christmas to you and your family! I hope this one is a great one for you.

I’ve never heard of those pans being called a Dutch oven before, I had to Google it! They are called a casserole on my side of the pond. I use mine to cook all sorts of things; savoury meat casseroles, pot roasts, chutney and even marmalade and quince jelly. They are so versatile, love mine! Merry Xmas everyone!

Great tips!
I’ve read that it helps to blot, then apply translucent powder by pressing it into a single layer of a tissue held against your lips, then re-applying. I haven’t tried it, though!
And I want that Dutch oven. It looks great! Love Target, lol 🙂
