The last time I left the house wearing eyeshadow, mascara and liner, but WITHOUT under-eye concealer, was probably 1998. Even if you don’t feel like you need concealer because you don’t have dark circles, apply at least a little bit anyway (or an eye brightener, at the very least) when you’re doing smoky eyes, because smokey eyes are one of those looks that can look incomplete without some brightening/concealing under the eyes. It’s one of those little touches that pulls the whole look together.
It’s like getting all gussied up and putting on a cute outfit…but then leaving the house without shoes.
There’s also an annoying side effect of wearing dark colors like gray, black and brown on your lids and lower lash lines. They can make your eyes look just plain tired.
But a brighter under-eye area counteracts the effect, and it also adds some nice contrast. You’ve got the dark eyeshadow contrasting with the brighter concealer under your eyes, and that makes your smoky eyes look even smokier. 🙂
Latest food obsession: The acai bowl
Oh, my gosh, acai bowls! They’re so, SO good. I’m craving one right meow, which is weird because I haven’t wanted to eat anything remotely healthy all summer.
Fruits and vegetables? FORGET ABOUT IT. I’ve been surviving on French toast, sour candy, cereal and frozen waffles, more or less (it started with a stomach bug I had).
It’s just a phase, I guess…
But within the past couple weeks I’ve started to eat more normally again, and let me tell ya — it feels good!
Right now I’m lovin’ on these acai bowls, which are thick ice cream-like smoothies made from frozen acai berries, which taste a little like blueberries, that are topped with fresh fruit and granola.
Picture eating ice cream, but like…healthy ice cream.
They were all the rage in Hawaii a few years back, but I hadn’t had one in ages until yesterday. Turns out there’s a place here in Novato called Nekter Juice Bar that makes them, and I went yesterday for brunch with my friend Marisol.
Talk about tasty! Their acai bowls are the perfect balance between sweet and tart, and the granola has a good crunch to it. Everything was great (except for maybe they were a little chintzy with the strawberries). I’ll definitely be going back for more.
I also ordered a green juice called “The Sublime” with lime, orange, parsley, kale, spinach and cucumber.
Eh, it was alright. I could’ve done without the parsley… Dang stuff just took over (seriously, it was licking a freshly mowed lawn), but my body sure felt good after drinkin’ it!
Have you ever had an acai bowl before? What did you think of it?

I love your look today, but I am always hesitant about putting anything on the bottom part of my eyes for fear of the dry, dark shadowing effect. I am going to try it out, though and save put the concealer on once the eye look is complete. BTW, what your opinion on eye cream? Is it really a necessity? Also, used a lot of waterproof mascara today as my “baby” (he’s 14) started high school today. Wanted to take a picture, but got the “MOM” look. He’s too cool!!!!

That should read “what is your opinion” Maybe I should go back to school!!!!

The concealer really does make a difference (but I’m allowing for some help from the blush, too, right?). You know I always think blush makes everything look better. 🙂
I’ve never had an acai bowl but am not too ice-creamy, so I would probably pass. Definitely pass on licking the lawn but that comment made me laugh. It’s been hotter than the surface of the sun for the past few days so it’s hard to think of eating anything… even for ME, which is saying something.

I never had an Acai bowl because I just cant seem to find a place that sells them around here.
But I apply concealer/brightener religiously every day, otherwise people will offer me a chair and a glass of water wherever I go…

I haven’t seen açai bowls around here, but Ann Arbor is a pretty hipster area, I’ll have to look around. Quincy would be on board with the parsley juice though.
Karen says
If you lived near me you (and QB) be swimming in parsley. I planted parsley at the start of the season and it’s now out of control!

Looks like you need to find a bunny friend!
