If you must know, yes, I knew it was coming. The moment was weeks in the making.
Still, there I was, once again, standing half-dressed in the middle of my bathroom and desperately pressing the pump on my now empty bottle of Kate Somerville Anti Bac Clearing Lotion. Surprise!
I thought for sure there’d be one more pump left in there…
Does that ever happen to you?
It happens to me all the time, especially with skin care that I love and use over and over again, like Kate’s Anti Bac Lotion (I LOVE that stuff; it completely changed my skin!). I can’t stand throwing away the empty bottles because I think there’s always a chance I’ll be able to coax out at least one more precious drop if I ever absolutely need to.
What I usually end up doing is what I did this morning, also know as “beauty improv.” I grabbed a Q-tip, broke it in half, then unscrewed the Kate Somerville bottle and, using the side of one of the Q-tip halves (one of the broken ends without the cotton), I scooped out a good enough-sized dollop of lotion from the inside of the cap and the mouth of the bottle.
Whenever I do this, I can usually squeeze out at least two or three last uses from a bottle that I might have otherwise thrown away.
You know how it is. Gotta get every last drop. 🙂
Happy Friday!!!
Ah, the sweet relief, babe… Happy Friday! I’m sorry I’ve been MIA this week, but it’s that secret squirrel project I keep talking about… It’s taking a lot of my time, but it’s gonna be great. I’ll have something official to announce about it in less than a week. I think you’re going to love it.
I hope you did something fun this week. Even though I spent most of the week running around like a cray-cray kitty, I did manage to watch some of the Olympics and, um…can I just say how amazing Olympic athletes are to me? All of the years of hard work, discipline and dedication coming down to a single moment…
Simone Biles is my everything right meow. The grace, the athleticism, and that glitter liner she rocked along her lower lash line during the Women’s All-Around? I swear it looked like Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy… LOVE it!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I do exactly the same thing when I get down to the bottom of my skincare. Sometimes it’s just too expensive to waste even a drop of it.
The olympics!! YES!!! There’s just too much to watch it all. Dear Husband loves the beach volleyball and the swimming. I love the equestrian events (with the sound muted) and gymnastics. I told Dear Husband I loved the sparkly leotards this year. Then they announced that one of those pretty, bedazzled things runs $1200. Ouch! Each one of the girls has four or five of them. Wow.
Karen says
Yes, girl! Do you ever turn the bottle upside down and leave it that way so that all the product collects in the cap? I do that too.
I was also admiring the beautiful leotards, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were hand made and custom fit items.
Tatiana says
Turn upside down? YES!!! I have also been know to crack open the bottles and pumps that seem to be hermetically sealed. When Dear Daughter interned in a bio lab one summer I asked her to bring home a slew of those long, wooden stick, cotton swabs, so I could absolutely swab out every last drop from my bottles.
I wonder if the person applying the crystals to those leos used a template. The placement seems pretty consistent from girl to girl. The ice skater in me is still oohing and aahing over all those crystals. Sooo sparkly!!!!

I am loving the Olympics !?Yes ! the discipline and hard work fine to a final moment !
Kate Sommerville rocks and so does Connor Claire ??
Karen says
Hi Michele,
Me too. The Olympics always makes me feel so inspired! I hope you’re having a great day so far. Any plans for the weekend? I’m going to my parents’ house to visit. Connor Claire is coming of course and she’ll be meeting her great-grandmother for the first time.

I usually cut all my bottles half to really scrape out the remnants of the product.
Chelsea says
I have a special little spatula thing for that!

Most of my creams, etc, are in plastic tubes and I always cut them open with scissors to put the rest in a little jar or something. Stuff us expensive, gotta use all of it!
Chris25 says
That is such a great trick. I turn my bottles upside down. When the last of the product slides down I use a spatula or my finger to get it out.
Becky says
I’m an upside-down bottler too! I hate wasting anything!! I’m THAT guy who cuts open the toothpaste tube for the last drop, too!
Super excited to hear about your secret project soon!
Kiss & Make-up says
I usually just cut everything open. But this a good idea.
Kim says
I’m exactly the same way. I have a counter full of upside down bottles and bruises on my palms from tapping the bottles to get the last drop. 🙂
Can’t wait to hear about your secret project!! And, agreed on the Olympics. I’ve been trying to watch whenever possible.
