‘Sup, ladies? Happy Saturday. 🙂 I was wondering if any of you MACaholics have tried the new MAC Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation ($32) yet.
MAC Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation
The new solid cream foundations just launched, and they’re supposedly great for dry skin.
Chock full o’ minerals, they offer medium, buildable coverage with a lightweight consistency.
I haven’t always had great luck with MAC Foundations (they tend to give me breakouts), but curiosity usually gets the better of me when it comes to MAC, so I still want to give them a try.
But first, have you already taken ’em for a spin? What did you think, and how does your skin usually respond to MAC foundations?
Inquiring minds want to know! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m intrigued about them. Also I’m a sucker for compacts as for me it’s still something glamorous to have in your handbag. I literally squeed when Joan Holloway put on some foundation on Sterling during one of the episodes of Mad Men (can you tell I’m way obsessed at the moment? haha)
The thing is that I don’t really need foundation all that much. The only thing I could use it for is maybe some redness on my cheeks and forehead. But apart from that, there’s not much that I need to cover that concealer won’t do. I don’t know. I think I’ll drop by the new store in Ghent and take a look soon.

It looks interesting but has a tendency to run dark so I haven’t been able to try it. MAC is anti-pale girls when it comes to foundation.
dip says
agreed…like they have shades that look really pale in the pan but end up being way too dark for my skin.

Mae says
How pale are you? I am a redhead (so I assume I’m pretty pale) but I swear by my MAC powder foundation!
Amaranthine says
I’m also a pale redhead and i was used to mix my foundation with mac face and body in white, cause the shades are always a bit dark for me. Im supposed to be a cold tipe, my skin is pure white with an hint of pink, but i always found better on me the nw15 than nc15, too yellow.
So i changed my select moisture blend in nw15 for Mineralize in nc15, i was surprised when the mua applied this shade on me, as always a bit too dark, but better than nw15, a lot darker than the old moistureblend!
Pros:
-The consistency.
-The silky finish.
-The coverage.
-Not greasy.
Cons:
-I notice some redness on the cheecks, the formula contains alcool so if you have a sensitive skin, better to try before purchase.

Zoffe says
Which of the MAC foundations have you tried? And what brands have you found that worked? 😮
I’m pretty pale and I actually use MAC foundations 🙂
The NC15 foundations tend to be a lot lighter than the NW15 foundations, so that’s what I use most of the time, even though my skin has red undertones. I think I can get away with it, since the really light NC foundations don’t have much yellow in them anyway.
I can use Studio Sculpt and Studio Tech without no problem. This new one actually looks pretty well too!
Select SPF is always too dark and Studio Fix Fluid works for me when I blend it well.

I love Studio Fix and have been using it exclusively for at least a year now. They have the perfect shade for every type of skin (and I’m very fair-skinned). I’m intrigued by the Mineralize Foundation although cream foundations in general tend to make me break out. I might have to give it a spin though!
*jen says
Stephanie,
Definitely not a perfect shade for every skin. Sorry. Worked for ’em. I know for sure that they can’t match some dark mixed-undertone skin and consistently short the really pale pink gals. NW15 is not light enough for lots of the porcelain crowd (though it suits me very well).
Glad you found your match, though! Studio Fix is a great foundation for those who it doesn’t break out. 😉
Andrea Beauchamp says
I used Studio Fix all throughout highschool and swore by it! Then my skin went through a funky phase and started to reject studio fix and a lot of other foundations as well. Last night I went to look at the mineralize stuff and the studio tech and was told neither is idea for oily skin, like mine. Major bummer. So I am going to give studio fix another go and see what happens. I used to love it because it didn’t budge all day, I could swim in it. Hopefully it doesn’t cause me to break out this time around! Fingers crossed!!!! Oh, and for Kristin above, Studio Fix is pro-pale girls!!! Try N4!

I like most MAC foundations. (I use Studio Fix, Select Liquid, Loose Mineralize or Studio Sculpt) I don’t find that they break me out and I can usually find a good color match quite easily (or I’ll go down a shade). What I don’t like is that they tend to oxidize in the summertime when I’m oilier. Since I have combination/normal/oily skin, I doubt I’ll be picking this up. I’ll try and get a sample or do a makeover at the counter though.

It sounds fab, I have dry skin, but if they run dark I don’t know if it will work… I’m a NW15…

That was my problem with Studio Sculpt! I’m an NW15 in most everything, but the Studio Sculpt runs a bit dark, and the NW15 in that looked dirty on me, but the NC15 was too warm. *sigh*
Lady Fabulous says
I’ve been using the Mineralize Satinfinish for a while now and I love it. It’s difficult to match my exact shade and MAC rarely lets me down in that category. The formula covers really well so the stuff lasts a long time. I want to try this one though!
jen in Va says
Sounds like the finish is really nice; maybe something I’d use in the winter when my skin gets dryer.
laurie says
Just purchased it. love the texture and feel, I use an Hourglass brush to apply so it blends out easily. The only concern is the color/shade. I went to an nw from a nc. The NC had some pretty strong yellow undertones…..
But all in all, I like the product! blends easily, love that its a compact!
Well done MAC
Kelly says
I haven’t tried this one, but normally MAC foundation’s are too heavy and greasy on me. They make me feel like I am wearing a mask.
This looks like it could be lighter and more buildable though, so it’s an option. I am loving my Chanel Lumiere foundation though right now. 🙂

I guess I am one of the peeps who doesn’t break out using MAC foundations. I have tried different formulas and have had good luck with them. I have not tried this foundation though.
This week I started using NARS Sheer Glow & so far I am really pleased with it.

I think with having oily skin this product wouldn’t work well for me. MAC foundations also tend to make me breakout 🙁

Good Morning!
I’ve been using the mineralize skinfinish natural powder for over year and LOVE it, but I haven’t tried these. I’m skeptical because every time I try a MAC liquid, my face breaks out. I normally don’t have acne at all, but MAC liquid foundations make me get awful pimples that hurt like mo-fos.
I’m looking forward to your review, maybe MAC might have made one I can use!

Hi, I bought this foundation and I am using it now since 2 weeks. I have oily skin with breakouts but I live in Scotland and we have here a really cold winter so my skin needs softers products than my usual ones. I love mac products but unfortunately their foundations are a miss for me, I usually don’t like their texture and the colours. Surprisingly I’m really happy with this foundation, I use a mac foundation brush 190 to apply it and I just add a little touch of powder and it stays nice all day long. Very soft but not greasy or cakey. It does what it says: lightweight and medium coverage, really blendable, comfortable. Of course if you have a really oily skin, I’m not sure it’s a good choice but if you don’t I think it’s really worth giving it a try. I hope my advice will help! Last thing, usually I’m a NW25/30 and for this one NW20 was the right colour. Sorry if there are some mistakes in english, I am french. By the way, thanks for your site, you’re the best and I always have a really nice (and often funny) moment reading your articles!

I have always like the look and feel of MAC Foundations on me, as I don’t have a problem with breakouts from their face products. A MAC MA told me about this a few months ago and I will give it try before deciding to buy it. The only thing is I am not a fan of compact cream foundations, as I think it collects lots of dirt and bacteria because that was the case from the Dior and Lancome compact cream foundations I have tried.

I haven’t had any mac foundation break me out except for studio fix. I tried studio tech and while i LOVED LOVED LOVED the way it looked when freshly applied it did not last well through out the day and easily swiped off of my skin.
Seeing the new mineralize foundation makes me feel like I may have the same result but I still would like to try it!
Karen4 says
I’m a red-head and use NW20-23-25, depending upon the season. Studio Fix always makes me break out, and I NEVER break out! Now I use Studio Tech. I love it, especially in the Winter when my skin is drier. It would be interesting to try this one, but I’m waiting for an order from Eve Pearl Cosmetics–her high def foundation is intriguing, and I can’t wait to try it! She is the award winning makeup artist who does a lot of the makeup for NBC celebrities.

I have tried a few different mac foundations and been disapointed by them all 🙁 so now i use dior scuplt and that seems to last me about 8 months!

I caved and bought mine today, along with the 130 brush that they feature with them. My MA did my face with it today, and I love the feel. I do have dry skin, and they only comment she made was that she did notice a couple of dry patches (courtesy of being lax lately with my exfoliation)….other than that, I love it!! It definatly is sheer and easy to build coverage.
reese says
Bought this along with the 130 and i must say that this brush is perfect for it! As far as the foundation goes, i really love it. my skin breaks out from all mac face products except for MSF natural and blushes. My MA had previewed it on me and did a full face application for me with it last week and i absolutely loved the feel and got it on thursday! it feels nice and light. my skin is normal to combination and it looks nice! i do currently have some dry patches just from the weather so the patches were slightly emphasized…so be sure to moisturize dry areas. but other than that, its perfect!…light and gives a natural-medium coverage! my new go to! 🙂

Hmmm…I have better success w/ MAC liquid foundations than creme/powder foundations. The creme/powder ones break me out something bad.
I might not give this a try. I dont want to break out again. My sister would like this. She doesnt like messing around with liquid foundations…
shivotra says
I want to try it. The one I use is too cakey for me…I think its studio fix and the color is really dark to wear over my foundation.

I love this one, It’s super lightweight and really looks like skin! I can’t tell where my skin ends and where the foundation starts (I stipple it on the spots where I need coverage most). Definitely give it a try.

I bought this yesterday along with the new brush and love it. I have given their mineral foundations a try previously but they always appeared orange on me. The MUA put this on and while she was off getting other products for my hopeless MAC addiction, other MUAs wanted to know what was on my skin and told me my skin looked flawless. It felt light, nongreasy, and no orange! I also gave Vintage Grape Ombre blush a whirl and absolutely love it. The MUA had no problems matching me up with this foundation and right now, I am pretty fair. Love it!
Jenna says
No one else commented on this? That shade looks green in the pan!
Zoffe says
I’m loving this new foundation! Super easy to work with, looks amazing and feels great <3
I usually use Studio Fix Fluid, Studio Sculpt or Studio Tech so this doesn't cover as much as my usual foundation, but I really like the finish it gives 🙂
I have to use blot powder with it to get it to stay on my oily skin, but that's not a problem for me 🙂

I just picked this foundation up three days ago and so far love, love it! The texture and coverage are great and it leaves a lovely glowing finish. If you have combo skin like me, you might want to finish it off with the mineralize powder. I love the two products together.
Never Enough Nails says
How would you apply this? With a brush? Your fingers? Hmmmmm. I’m intrigued.

heyy! i went to MAC the other day wanting to get this to try for summer. The girl said i would be an nc25 even though im usually nc30 or 35 because it drys darker than it looks, however they didnt have any nc 25’s left 🙁 so then she said they the face and body foundation would also be lightweight and natural looking and they were the same price so i was just like sure?
but without realizing it she got me the nc 25 and when i got home and tried it, it made me look so pale! it came off after like two hours and it was barely there coverage! im seriously taking it back to a different MAC and getting my Mineralize foundation spf 15 🙂 ive heard really greaaaat things about it, and i discovered it in UK’s glamour magazine for the effect of dewy, glowy skin so im hoping it gives my skin that effect….especially in the summer 😉 The girl at MAC also told me that i should wait to get a little more of a tan because i will need a darker shade, so if your buying it for summer you may want to wait or get a darker shade and only use it later on 🙂

So today, I walked into MAC to try out new foundations. I usually use Studio Fix–NC30, but that was when I lived in LA-beach weather. (I was darker) Now, I’m soaked in Seattle-rainy weather 24/7. I figured that my foundation is out of date, since my skin is like 4x lighter these days. Though, don’t get me wrong–my Studio Fix is barely halfway through its lifetime. Stuff lasts forever. The sales woman led me to the re-stocked Mineralize Creme Foundation. Woo woo, this foundation works magic. I have oily skin, but during the winter, my face dries up. I usually dislike the cakey feel from the powder foundation in wintertime. Especially since it shows up even more because of the weather. This is lightweight and moisturizes! I’m not a big fan of cremey or liquid foundation, but this really blew me away. Please, please try it for yourself.

I went into MAC for the first time a few months ago and the MA recommended this foundation for me. I live in Alaska where it’s freezing year round, so most of us here have extremely dry skin. I LOVE the way it looks on me, but boy does this make me break out. It took me a while to realize that’s what was causing my break outs (especially on my chin) and as soon as I stopped using it my chin cleared up lol. So for now I stick with clinique foundation until I can find something better. It’s a shame because I love the way MAC looks on your face.
