Um… brace yourself, young lady. 🙂
QUESTION OF THE DAY: Can you MAC any room in your heart for the bevy of warm, wearable colors that comprise MAC Pret-a-Papier?
I ask because the collection descended on counters today (HOLLA!). Have you had a chance to check it out yet? The hefty 25-piece release for eyes, lips, cheeks and nails is packed with products in warm coral, peach, purple, brown, beige and gold.
If you’ve ever been a little confused by MAC’s past color collection choices, you might be in for a treat this time (at least I hope so). Everything here just makes sense to me, like a bona fide summer makeup collection with wicked versatility and potential. Almost any combination of these colors picked at random could still produce a cohesive look.
Because these shades aren’t too EXTREME! (nothing too dark/loud/sparkly), the release may not set the world on fire. Gals who eat, drink and breathe brights might feel like the color palette’s a little ho-hum… but I dig it. These are colors that speak to me, and they say, “fresh, feminine and sophisticated.” I know I could wear ’em often, and of the MAC summer collections I’ve seen so far, this one feels the most wearable (which to me = value).
But that’s just one gal’s opinion (Tabs prefers brights!). Tell me what you think. 🙂

P.S. Oy! It’s Friday Eve already. That’s reason enough to celebrate, right? How does gelato sound? Mmm… sure sounds good to me.
So what was the highlight of your Thursday?
Katrina says
I’ve never tried MAC before but this collection is really calling my name. I think it would be a great start for me. But can you explain what the Chromographic Pencil’s are please, I unfortunately don’t have a clue. Thanks!
Rica says
I don’t really know what a chromagraphic pencil is, but after reading several reviews, apparently, it can be used as eyeliner. Since it’s very creamy, it can also double up as concealer too.
I gotta check them out this weekend! Still one more exam to go 🙁

I was lucky enough to get to the mall today and picked up a few things from this collection. I loved the warmer colors. I’m really into the peach/coral lippies so I bought the l/s in Dressmaker, Dressmaker and Made to Order and the l/g in Fold and Tuck and Pret a Papier.
Rachael says
I tried the Fold and Tuck today on my way through Saks to Sephora with my mum. It was definitely a my lips look natural but better color for me. But the majority of the lip colors looked good on me, a plus right? Thursday nights are my weekend since I don’t have classes on Fridays, so I celebrated with a chocolate “lava” cake on the couch with my kitty.
Hope your gelato is delish!

At first I didn’t think much of this collection, but now I want several items. I’ve ordered Dressmaker, Dressmaker l/s, Made to Order l/s, Fold & Tuck l/g, Instant Chic blush, Coral Crepe paint pot and Memorabilia e/s – but I want a few more items still.. What to do? 😛

I’m going to go check it out tomorrow. I have not got lucky with the last few MAC collections because most of the items were dupable. Instant Chic and Coral Crepe look really promising.

Right after work I ran to the mall and bought Fold & Tuck l/g, the Chromographic pencil, and brown bag nailpolish. I am torn about the chromographic pencil, cause I am an NC 35 as well and I feel that the lighter pencil might be the tiniest bit too light on me. The problem is that the darker pencil was my EXACT skin color and I figured I was supposed to go a little lighter. However, I am IN LOVE with the nailpolish- it is truly my perfect nude.
HC says
Is Instant Chic Blush a more muted version of Pink Swoon??
Polish Earthgirl says
No ways! Paint pot in coral crepe and the lipglass in fold and tuck were 100 percent my faves too! Great minds think alike 😛

Hey Karen!
Thanks for the post! I am really liking that Coral Crepe Paint Pot and the Groundwork one too. I currently only own Rubenesque and I just love it! The Instant Chic Blush looks like something that would work with my skintone…It looks more peachy toned in the pan than it does on your skin though. I guess I will have to go to the MAC counter and check them all out!
Lauren says
I actually went to the MAC store today to check out the collection and all the chromagraphic pencils were gone! I was completely surprised! That is what I really wanted to try from this collection, since nothing else was really speaking to me. The SA told me that the Coral Crepe paint pot can be multi-purpose: eye base, check color and lip color. I don’t really need another coral color, but I thought I’d mention it in case anyone else was interested. 🙂
Pumps And Gloss says

Hi Karen,
I just love your swatches, and these colors so pretty. But what is up with Mac and the mute colors, I was so use to seeing loud colors from MAC.
makeup morsels says
I love that this collection is wearable without being boring. My favorite is the lipglass in Pret-a-Papier. btw resent you a message about guest blogging, did you get it?

Oh I’m loving your swatch of Coral Crepe Paint Pot! I’m definitely interested in that. I think I’ll check out Fold and Tuck l/g, probably the lipsticks – the coral ones -, and the blushes.

I actually gasped out loud when I saw memorabilia! I recently fell in love with dovefeather eyeshadow, only to find out that the color had been discontinued (i actually sent you an e-mail about it but i never got a reply. =() and memorabilia is so similar! I think I’m going to get it!

I’m into brights, so I’m not digging this collection. The colors look nice and wearable, but I know I would rarely use them so I’ll pass. The nail polish in originality looks beautiful though.

That Paint Pot is amazing. It’s one of my faves out of the entire launch.

I’m really not crazy about anything in this collection but thanks for swatching them!
Karen says
You’re welcome. 🙂
NINA says
We had the Haagen Dazs frozen yogurt in Dulce de Leche to celebrate almost-Friday last night.
I am liking that collection – very wearable even if some of the shades are dupeable or part of the regular line. In particular, my eyes are on the Dressmaker, Dressmaker lipstick, the Coral Crepe paintpot and the Cut to Fit eyeshadow. Love them!!!
Karen says
That’s one of my faves! Yummy!
Oh, and you most definitely have to get your hands on the Coral Crepe Paint Pot.
NINA says
I just gotta figure out how to sneak in a trip to MAC w/o the Hubs glaring at me….. He saw the stuff I got @ the CCO last Monday. 😛
The froyo was yummy … and because its sweet, I didnt need a lot to satisfy my sweet tooth!
Karen says
LOL.. tell him you’re going out to get him ingredients to make his favorite food! Almost always works for me, ha!
NINA says
LOL …. might work. Or I can tell him im going to Target (he totally gets my obsession w/ Target by now) ….
I think hes going to jujitsu on Saturday or Sunday — mebbe then. 😛

Eyeshadows have gone up? I know it’s 50 cents…but that translates to a couple of pesos here. :/
I really like Instant Chic blush, it’s a very pretty colour that I want in my stash! 😀

I got dressmaker, dressmaker yesterday, I wore it today, it dissapears pretty fast. I also got Fold and tuck and I love it! It lasts and has such a pretty shine to it. The coral crepe paint pot is beautiful! Its my favorite thing in this collection, I wish they would make it part of the permanent line. I have it on today, I wore that on my lids with a bluish gray eyeshadow on the outer v of my lids and Ricepaper eyeshadow as the highlighter on my browbone. I love this stuff!
Karen says
Your look sounds really pretty.
I wouldn’t mind if they added Coral Crepe to the permanent collection, either!
Tiffany says
I want cut to fit and c-thru!!!
Karen says
C-Thru is a good layering color!

The only thing that is really moving me – coral crepe p/p. It’s truly something different and I don’t have a cream shadow in my collection. I’m hoping it’ll rev up my Hot, Hot Hot e/s from the Spring Forecast collection.
Karen says
I have been all about corals on the eyes lately. You gotta get it!
Erin says
I really want Cut to Fit e/s, I LOVE colors like that. That’s the kind of e/s I would turn to for everyday wear. I also will probably pick up the NC15/NW20 Chromagraphic pencil and Fold and Tuck l/g.
BUT, all of this will have to wait til next week, because I seriously overspent my week’s beauty budget. I bought Laser and Pop l/g from Chanel’s summer collection AND ordered $100+ worth of stuff from Sephora LOL.
.-= Erin’s last blog post… China Glaze Poolside Collection =-.
Karen says
Oh nice. What did you get from Sephora?
Gabrielle says
What exactly do you use the Chromagraphic pencils for? The website didn’t clearly state it…
Karen says
The MAC makeup artists told me yesterday you can use ’em as a liner and as concealer. They suggested applying them to the waterline to brighten up the eyes.
Tiffany says
I couldn’t help myself and went to the MAC counter on my lunch break. I got Cut to Fit shadow and C-thru lipglass. I love them both. The shadow will work well with my Mythology and Texture shadows and the C-thru will go well over my Honeylove lipstick! I am so excited. Thanks for the post!!
Catherine says
I’ve sort of been ignoring MAC lately, but my favs are the same as yours this time! Coral Crepe paint pot and Fold and Tuck lipglass. I’m not really a fan of either paint pots or lipglasses though… so we’ll see. I might have to stop by and look at Originality nail polish. It looks really pretty too.

This an okay collection. Its a good start for those getting in to MAC.I swatched Fold N Tuck, Made to Order…MTO will look nice with Lychee l/g over top. I wore it out of the store that way! 🙂 The paintpot was my only real must-have though.
Rita says
I could not agree more with you, Karen. I’m looking forward to get my hands on these babies in about a week! Fold and Tuck looks really great, a little lighter that Red Devil (fav!) perhaps?
Karen B says
The paintpots look awesome. I’m curious as to what they intend you to do with the cromographic pencils…

ok so i recently got into make-up (yayyy lol) i’m 23 years old and had no clue about foundation, blushes, e/s, ect (eye liner was about the only thing i would use) looking at this collection makes me feel like a kid in a candy store!!!!! i have only 2 mac e/s but this collection looks perfect for me. I like wild colors (for night time, party!) but i LOVE warm and neutral colors so i think i will spend a little extra money on this collection!! to start off my make up adventure (wish me luck!! will definitely come back to this site again!) ^-^
