With more than 40 precious pieces of eye, lip and face makeup spread out among its four different color-themed collections, the new MAC Spring Colour Forecast release overwhelmed me at first. There’s *a lot* in it to digest, and when you’re prone to frequent bouts of makeup-related stimulus overload (like moi), it can be a bit much.
To explore the collection, I’ve been trying to bite off little bits at a time, my own Mini Makeup Missions. 🙂
It’s the approach I took last night at the San Francisco MAC Pro Store release party for Colour Forecast. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get hands-on time with everything, so I concentrated on products I knew I could use for a simple look I’d wear pretty often, in this case a neutral lip look with a little twist.

Like a lotta ya’ll, I usually reach for peach, pink or beige lip colors when I want to wear something conservative on my lips — something like shimmery golden peach/pink MAC Nymphette gloss, which I’m still deeply in love with.
Last night, though, I wanted to find something still neutral-ish, but with a little spice to shake things up.
I think I found it in these two purple Lipglasses ($14 each): Lavender Wind (a sheer purple with blue and gold shimmer) and Purple Rage (a shimmery, deep golden plum).

Here they are on their own…

And here they are mixed together…

I think it’s a fresh take on a standard neutral lip — a light plummy violet infused with pretty gold and blue sparkles.
Mini Makeup Mission accomplished!

Hmm… What are some other potential Mini Makeup Missions?
- A bold cheek and lip color to wear together?
- Colors to wear with staple MAC eyeshadows (mine are Woodwinked, Sable and Soft Brown)?
- A shimmery eyeshadow to brighten up tired eyes?
- An unexpected smokey eyeshadow combo?
Having virtual missions with specific beauty problems to solve usually makes exploring big collections like Spring Colour Forecast easier for me.
What’s your strategy when it comes to investigating new MAC (or other) makeup collections? No matter which approach I take, I always try to remember that it’s just makeup. Priority No. 1: Have fun. 🙂

At first I wasn’t going to grab it, but when I saw it mixed with Lavender Wind it was on like Donkey Kong, LOL!
WHat did you end up getting?
SoVeryFabulous says
Way too much stuff! I got all 4 blush Ombres, the 2 quads, 3 lipglasses and 3 lipsticks, 5 eye shadows. My wallet is crying, but I did have a few sets of empties to redeem which helped. Everything was just so pretty!

I only bought 2 lipsticks, “Bubble Gum” and “Victorian,” they’re so pretty
Karen says
I was tempted by both of those! I might have to go back for ’em. Are you wearing one of them today?
Nicole says
I saw you at the event =)!
Karen says
Aw, I wish we could’ve chatted! What were you wearing? I wonder if I saw you too…
Nicole says
I was wearing a black pea coat with a red scarf and jeans. I wanted to say hi but I felt star structed when I realized it was you lol.

Purple Rage is definitely ragin’! 😉

What ive learned is not to get too excited with all the new stuff that comes out … and focus on stuff I would actually wear.
There have been so many collections where I just got what I thought was pretty … and those things ended up in the drawer – unused. The stuff ive gone back for — those are the ones that are actually heavy in the rotation.
So for this one — I might focus on the lip stuff and the blushes. I have far, far too many eyeshadows to allow myself to be tempted by some more.
But then again — who knows what would happen when im actually in the store? 😀

How do u find the e/s palette new look?? Looking better or more attractive?

I went to the preview too and got mostly lip products. Purple rage looks much more red on me :/ maybe it’s different pigmentation in our lips

I am really liking lavender whip alone. When there are new collections like this I usually look online to see what I like and what I REALLY need, and then I go into the store wtih a set mind on things that I might purchase, depending if I like them in to store or not.

Purple Rage looks amazing with your skintone!! you should definitely pair it with a golden bronzey eye!

OMG how many people were in the store at MAC’s . I’ve never seen a MAC Studio so full with people before or maybe this is just happening in U.S.

the combo is gorgeous on you!
I usually just go in and try to take it all in. Usually I just naturally gravitate towards a part of the collection and once I decided on one or two items I then browse the rest for hidden gems. It sounds very unlike a strategy but it’s worked for me so far 😉

LOVE Purple Rage on you! It looks fabulous! Lavender Wind is really pretty too but Purple Rage just knocked me off my feet.
When it comes to checking out new collections, I think if I really need the product, and if I don’t have anything similar in my stash. Since MAC is expensive, I usually control myself! Now and then I’ll splurge…I’m still waiting for Warm & Cozy, though, so there’s time to save up 😀

It’s true! The size of this collection makes it easy for some standouts to get lost in the crowd. I mean, those blushes are obvious stars so I was really overlooking the lip products. Lavender Wind is quite pretty, although it seems like it might not be that bold from a distance.

I really, really want Lavender Wind. It will make an awesome replacement for my favourite Lancome Plum Freeze juicy tube, which is discontinued. Same awesome sparkles!
Have spent more money on makeup since discovering this blog than I spent in oh, probably five *years* before that.

Oh, my – Purple Rage sure is amazing. It’s absolutely gorgeous on you. I also have to give it bonus points for having a name that is oddly reminiscent of a song an 80s acid rock band might produce.
