Throughout the long, hallowed (not really) history of Karen’s Cat Eyeliner Life, Volume I, I’ve drawn a lot of cat eyeliner looks on my cat lady lids, and over all those years, I can count on one paw the number of times I’ve drawn two perfectly angled flicks. That’s how rarely it occurs!
Most of the time, it’s my left flick. The right will be OK, but the left will turn out wonky, angled either too low or too high, or too short or too long.
It’s pretty much guaranteed that one or both flicks will need an adjustment.
One quick way to fix your flicks is with an eye cream and a Q-tip. What I’ll do is soak a Q-tip with a little bit of the cream, then run that along the edges of the flick to instantly sharpen them and/or fix any mistakes, all while adding some extra moisture around my eye area (something I need anyway).
MAC Fast Response Eye Cream is one of my favorite creams to use for this trick. It’s caffeinated for anti-puffiness power and absorbs quickly into my skin without leaving behind a greasy residue, so I can layer makeup right on top of it without waiting.
Just a quick eye makeup tip if you’re sometimes error-prone (like I am).
Fierce feline flicks for everyone!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That’s a great tip. I was in a hurry this morning doing my makeup to go to my dentist appointment and I made my left line way too thick. (It is always the left one that’s wrong, you’re right). I usually put a dab of a primer on a qtip. It also works really well.

I also have to do this almost every time too! I use a liquid remover but it usually leaves me kind of oily, maybe I’ll try a cream!

I’ve never thought about using eye cream to fix liner mistakes. Do you do your eyes before or after you do your foundation?

Good tip! I don’t do cat eyes on my hooded lids, just tightline, but I like to use a micellar water on a cotton pad to pick up eyeshadow and glitter fall-out, which I often seem to have in abundance, since I like really intense shadow on my lids. I use Sephora’s Triple Action Cleansing Water because the price is right, even though I don’t care for the fragrance. I would like to try Caudalie Make-Up Remover Cleansing Water, but it’s more than twice the price! I’d rather spend the difference on a new eye shadow.

You are the queen of cat eyeliner, Karen 🙂

I tried a cat liner look once and the results were, um, not good. If I ever venture there again, I’ll definitely remember this tip. On a cheaper, easier and grosser note, I usually use a Q-tip that I’ve just put in my mouth to clean up excess mascara on my lids. Sorry to anyone who gags after reading this. 🙂

I must know what’s on your lips in this photo? It’s too cute 🙂

Hmmm! This is actually such a great idea — I always use water (too much friction) or makeup remover (too drying) to perfect my winged liner, but I bet eye cream would work a heck of a lot better for my sensitive eyes! 😮
Karen says
Hi Rae,
It’s really great for that sensitive area. I actually use it along the lower lash line and underneath my eyes to do clean up. That way I can get extra moisture and prep for concealer in one fell swoop!

What a great idea! I usually use makeup remover or even water but neither works too well. I’ll try this next time, thanks!
Karen says
Hi Gio,
You’re welcome. This also works great for lower lash line or under eye area clean-up, too. I usually do a quick swipe, and then I apply under-eye concealer. The moisturizer seems to help to make the concealer look more natural, too. Always a plus!
Congrats on your new blog layout! Are you done with all the fine-tuning? I know it can take a while.

You always post the best ideas! I’m definitely going to try this. I’ve been neglecting my eye cream lately anyway lol
Karen says
Hi Fancie,
Eye cream works as an improv makeup remover! It’s a trick I use when I’m traveling. 🙂

Lovely tip!! I often use a damp q-tip. But never thought to use eye cream.
And now I must ask…
What eyeshadow colors are you wearing? Love the plummy mauvy goodness! 🙂
