Sometimes — OK, all the time — when I’m doing my makeup and getting ready to go out, especially after a long week, I don’t like to start from scratch, so to make it a little easier on myself, I’ll repurpose whatever I’m wearing that day, and just freshen it up and add a slight twist, like this colorful green lower lash line.
It takes two things: 1) a colorful eyeliner and 2) a complementary eyeshadow. For this look here, I chose two shimmery green shades — MAC Eye Shadow in Steamy and MAC Eye Kohl in Minted.
I lined my lower lash line with the liner, then smudged out the edges with a pencil brush. Then, I patted the eyeshadow directly on top of the liner to intensify the color and shimmer.
After an additional coat of mascara and some gloss, it’s done and Fri-yay ready! 🙂
(Note: also approved for evenings at home spent chilling on the couch with Tabs.)
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF, my friend. 🙂 Good morning. Would you like something yummy from the kitchen? We have a fresh cat loaf baking…
Ashleigh says
Pretty! I also like taking some bright blue eyeshadow and just patting it over my cat eye to make it a little more interesting in the evenings.
And uh.. I think I’ll pass on the Tabs Loaf. Furball danger zone!
Karen says
That’s a great idea, Ashleigh! Thank you for the inspiration. 🙂

I agree with you on “reusing” the days’ makeup! Washing my face too much dries it out! The Nordstrom anniversary sale starts today! Are you getting anything? I ordered 2 pairs of Zella leggings and the hot pink lip MAC look in a box. There are tons more beauty exclusives I want but I’m hoping they’ll sell out so I can stop thinking about it!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
I planned to get some Zella leggings and some other basics (underwear, bras, boring stuff!). I always end up getting the essentials during the sale, lol!
Debra says
Inspired! And, ya know, sometimes the freshened up look is better than the original!
No loaf of any kind this morning. Kitchen is too hot! OJ on ice with Carr’s Whole Wheat Crackers on the side (kinda like a cookie-cracker).
Karen says
It’s a warm day here in the North Bay Area too! For now it’s bearable in my office but soon it will turn into a sauna. One day we’ll get this AC fixed, sigh.
Stay cool!

This looks cute on you! I don’t like the way I look with heavy undereye liner (with my relatively deep set eyes and fair skin, I just look zombieish), but you look very rock and roll. I get to doll up tomorrow though for my friend’s burlesque show! I’m (wo)manning the door and taking the money 🙂 I’ll probably go for 60s ish makeup, which is my comfort zone.
I just had gluten free mac and cheese and green beans. Mac and cheese was… Meh. Not great.
Karen says
Are you going to wear your falsies?! PLEASE SAY YES!
Chelsea says
Of course!
Ruchita says
This is a great idea! I love this. I would love to try this with blue or purple.
Mmm, tabby loafs are the best! TGIF. 🙂
Karen says
They are the most tender and delicious of the cat loaves! 🙂
Nivedita says
This has been my favorite makeup do for some time! It’s so easy and yet glamorous.
I wanted to ask some Karen and I am sure you have been asked this a billion times over, how do you set up the light? I create all the makeup looks only to realize that something about the lighting is always wrong.
Karen says
Hi Nivedita,
Lighting took me a long time to learn and I still feel like I need to learn more. It’s pretty complicated. But the easiest and quickest advice I can give you is to use custom white balance. It also helps to understand how your camera skews. I shoot with a Canon which tends to overcompensate with cooler tones (depends on the time of day, whether I’m shooting in mixed light, etc.), so I adjust accordingly. I think it helps to start with natural light. It’s the easiest and “cleanest” to work with when you’re just starting. HTH!
Stacy says
Beautiful! Love the look on you!
P.S. I will take “Tabs” any way I can get him! He is a love!
Karen says
Awww, you’re so sweet Stacy! I’ll give him an ear scratch for you. He’s sitting in my office right now supervising me for the afternoon. 🙂
Have a wonderful Friday! What are you up to this weekend?
Kim says
Happy Friday, my Friend!!! You look lovely, as always. 🙂 I just finished two huge work projects (and last night was the end of coaching the boys’ baseball team) so I hope to have more time to indulge in makeup reading! We watched Terminator Genisys, which I lovingly refer to as T12. I’m a sucker for Arnold but also missed the Kahleesi’s dragons. 😉 Hoping to catch the Minions between baseball games this weekend (another team the fellas play on). So many fun movies coming out!!
Karen says
Good luck to the boys this weekend! Have fun at the movies and have a wonderful weekend!
Lulle says
Very pretty! I really like the color of Steamy, it makes me want to do an Aqua eye today.
Your hair looks gorgeous in these pics Karen!
Karen says
Steamy is one of my faves. If you ever get it try it over a black base sometime — it looks amazing!
Kathy Smith-Woodcock says
You always look so great!!! Love the green shadow and liner on you, beautiful. Thanks for your posts they bring a smile to my face everyday, so nice
Karen says
Thank you, Kathy! I’m glad you enjoyed this post. Have a wonderful weekend!

What a great, easy trick! That green looks amazing on you.
Kwmechelle says
I’m SO here for that look & minimal effort. Plus the cute girlie compact. Try to keep cool if you can. 🙂
Trude says
So lovely! I’ll have to try this. If I go out after work I usually just add a bit of (more) eyeliner and apply a shimmer shadow with a brush doused in Fix+. 🙂
Renae says
Karen, what’s on your beautiful cheeks?!
Karen says
Hey Renae!
It’s MAC Gingerly Blush. I’ll have a review of it up in a few, stay tuned!
Happy Friday to you. 🙂 What are you up to this weekend?
Katalin says
wow Karen, THIS IS the look for you! I mean, POP! You nailed it! <3
India says
That first photo is stunning. For some reason, in that photo you look exactly like Shay Mitchell!
xx,
India
Rachel R. says
That pop of green really suits you. You look fierce. Have a great weekend. Pet Tabs for me, and I’ll give Padfoot some cuddles from you.
Efrain says
I see a mermaid, a really beautiful one. My tip would be use a more intense blush a lip.
Kiss & Make-up says
Wow, you look catwalk ready, Karen! What an awesome way to ‘pimp’ your day time look!
Meghan says
Ah, so pretty! That shade of green looks stunning on you. I love this look but whenever I try it, I look like I’ve been punched in the face. haha Anything on my lower lid has to stay in the waterline or JUST on the lashline. Smudging it any lower and things start to go awry quickly.
LindaLibraLoca says
I have been wearing this look a lot earlier this year, but somehow strayed and forgot how much I liked it. I don’t think i have ever looked as gorgeous as you do though.
Missy says
ohhhh so cute, love the teal eyeliner!
Michaela says
Hi Karen thanks for this post. I just happen to have Steamy. I just need to get the Minted eyeliner. But I have a question – how do you keep the eyeliner from smudging and not looking like a tired panda?
KaylaP says
Ah I love doing this trick! I had to travel to San Antonio for my job to work a trade show a few weeks back. We all had a long travel day (we had to drive from Dallas to there) so the first day of the trade show was from 5-8pm. I was too tired to re-do my whole face so to get some BAM! factor, I lined with a dark blue eyeliner and then put some MAC Freshwater on top of it and hoozah! I looked so awake and my eye whites looked so less bloodshot lol.
