We interrupt our regular schedule of dark fall lipsticks to bring you this important message about trees…
Wait — did I say trees? I meant twigs. 🙂 Rather, a twig, as in MAC Twig Lipstick ($14.50), today’s Unsung Hero and another one of my favorite transitional shades.
QUICK REWIND: What are “transitional shades”? They’re what I like to call colors that help bridge the gap between the vivacious shades you want to wear (yet might not feel ready for), and the shades you feel most comfortable wearing now.
Say it’s one of the dark, rich lipsticks we see a lot in fall, something like a full-on vampy red. If you feel the urge to go there but haven’t quit mustered the courage, an approachable lipstick like Twig could walk you a little further down the path to your ultimate destination.
It’s a little like Crème in Your Coffee (another great transitional shade), except a smidgen lighter and a little more pink than brown; I feel like Twig’s semi-matte finish gives it a slightly more formal, more conservative, vibe than Crème has with its subtle sheen.
If you like Crème in Your Coffee but feel that it might be a little too dark for you, take a closer look at Twig. Beyond its chops as a transitional shade, I think it’s also a great everyday color.
I must have brought the fog from San Francisco with me here to Santa Monica, oops!
The Beauty Social
Very interesting so far! I’ll post some details soon, but before that, can you guess who’s smiling in this pic with the little brown starstruck girl?
Here’s a hint: it’s Carol Shaw, creator of LORAC! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Detour: you got to meet Carol Shaw? Hand me that brown eyeshadow to go with my green complexion….
Twig! This is on my shopping list. 🙂 I need a makeup gift just for me.
Karen says
Hi Chris,
She was really nice! I told her that her Front of the Line Pro Liner is the sh*t, LOL!
Hope you and the kittehs are having a lovely weekend.

Twig was one of the first MAC lipsticks I bought in the 1990s! I might have to revisit it and buy it again. Thnx for the reminder Karen!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Michelle. I have colors from the ’90s that I still wear… it’s nice to have them around. They bring back good memories. 🙂

My first MAC lipstick (and maybe first item) as well. I loved it in the early 1990s. Now, it seems too brown for me.

Back in high school my holy Grail lippy was MAC Chelsea! Anyone remember that color??? I’m so old…..
Karen says
I remember that shade. I was a MAC Paramount girl back in the day, myself.
Hope you’re having a nice weekend so far. What have you been up to?
Jaymie says
I had that color too! I guess I was in my dark lipstick phase back then but now that I’m older I’ve come to appreciate lighter and brighter lipsticks. Although I did just get MACs Unknown Pleasure which kind of reminds me of back in the days 🙂

Oooooooh I am SO getting this! I really liked Creme in Your Coffee but I like how much more natural this shade would be on my lips. I love super colorful shades, but I’d like this for those neutral face days 🙂
And it’s great to hear you’re having a good time at the Beauty Social! Can’t wait to hear about all the talks you’ve been to so far!
Karen says
Hi Christina,
This would be perfect for days when you do a more colorful eye look. 🙂
How’s your weekend been? It’s so cold here in So Cal!
Jackie G says
Oh my! I used to wear this color just about every day…about 10 years ago!
Karen says
It’s a great shade! Timeless, really. 🙂

Thanks for the posting! I’m always looking for a lovely daytime lipstick, but I’m drawn to brighter colors, so the pretty, less bright colors never seem to make it to my home (although I do have Burberry’s lipstick in “Blush”, but another color would be nice to have around!).
Boy, you missed one heck of a gorgeous day here in the SF Bay Area, Karen – it was like summer, I swear – warm, blue and clear skies, perfect! My husband and I went to the Botanical Garden at Golden Gate Park and read under a tree for awhile. So many people were out, playing frisbee, having pic-a-nics, walking around … it was beautiful!

Twig has been on my shopping list for a while- had it a long time ago. Gotta remember to pick it up next time I am at the MAC counter. I keep seeing Brave- are they close or similar in purpose? I remember it as being really easy to wear.
Can’t wait to hear about the Beauty Social 🙂
Sunny says
Hey Karen,
Thanks for the posting! I really like the Unsung Heroes series (and yes, you have managed to put about 500 items on my wish list)! Could you maybe tell me if Twig is similar to Rouge Coco Mademoiselle (which you have also blogged about) at all? Thanks!
Izzy says
Hi, this color reminds me of my mom. She wears it all the time and has like ten half used tubes scattered everywhere so she always has it haha I love my mom she’s so beautiful.
