Standouts in MAC’s Lip Pencil line often steal the spotlight (Subculture, Chestnut and Spice spring to mind), but the MAC Cremestick Liners ($14.50 each) also deserve much love.
I’ve been obsessively collecting these creamy twist-up lip pencil liners for years, and I think my lips are better for it.
The regular MAC Lip Pencil line has some stellar colors, but I find myself missing my Cremesticks when my lips feel dry. Softer, smoother and slightly thicker than the Lip Pencils, the Cremesticks are all about comfort and hydration, which makes ’em perfect for lip TLC.
I love them layered beneath glosses, both to increase gloss wear time and to alter (and invent new) colors; I do it all the time with Lipglasses, Cremesheen Glasses and the Lipgelées.
MAC Cremestick Liner swatches from the left: Beurre, Creamola, Gingerroot, Honey B., Pink Treat, Red Enriched, Sublime Culture and Summerfruit
Pinkish caramel Sublime Culture (goes with almost everything!), Pink Treat (a cool pink), pale coral Summerfruit and dirty plum Beurre are some of my personal faves, along with a now discontinued pinkish plum with shimmer called Gingerroot that I absolutely adore. I have one last stick of it left, and when that one gives up the ghost, I plan to pour a 40 on the sidewalk in its honor…
My love for it runs THAT deep.
Straight up, if you’re looking for a new lip liner and want something more hydrating than most, check out the MAC Cremesticks when you get the chance.

Doesn’t Nicky, Laura’s kitty colleague and BFF, look oh-so-chic dressed in black?
Does your pet deserve a career in pet modeling? If you think think they have what it takes, e-mail a pic of him/her posing with a tube of MAC Evolution Revolution to me at karen_at_makeupandbeautyblog_dot_com, or send it to me via Facebook or Twitter.
In other news, I’m conference bound! Yup, tomorrow morning I leave for San Diego to attend something called BlogHer.
It’s a three-day conference organized by one of the world’s largest blogging networks. I’ve never been before, but the courses sounded great.
- Cyberbullying Isn’t Just for Teens: What to Do if You’re the Victim of Trolls, Haters… and Worse
- Your Perfect Imperfections: Blogging Your Way to Self-Acceptance
- Essential Writing and Editing Skills
- Food Photography That Will Feed Your Soul
- Old-School Bloggers: Beginner to Big-Time to Burnout and Everywhere in Between
- Perfecting Product Reviews
- Owning Your Beauty: If We Change the Conversation, Can We Change the Culture?
- Uncharted Territory: Video Storyboarding and Scripting for the Writer
Most blogging conferences focus on some of the technical aspects of blogging, like search engine optimization, CSS and other oh-so-exciting stuff, but based on the course descriptions, (I’m hoping) BlogHer takes a more holistic approach. Of course, you can bet I’ll be sharing the experience with you. I’m bringing a bunch of beauty products with me that I plan to review for travel worthiness, and also have some giveaways and guest posts lined up. I’m bringing all of my usual gear with me — cameras, computers, gizmos and whatnot — so I’ll be able to talk with you from there. 🙂
I’m just in the middle of packing right now (yes, I’m using my packing list). CVS/pharmacy is helping cover my costs for the trip, and some of my coverage over the next few days will be sponsored by them.
Now, I have to figure out how to fit 45 tubes of lipgloss into a small sandwich bag.
Hmm…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I LOVE the cremestick liners! 😀 I’ll never forget…. Pink Treat was the first liner recommended to me by a MAC make-up artist! 🙂
And oh my goodness, Karen! <3 That BlogHer conference sounds AMAZING! I really hope you enjoy San Diego when you get here! Downtown San Diego and Seaport Village is pretty amazing so, if you have time, I hope you get a chance to do a little sightseeing. Plus Downtown San Diego, Hillcrest, and Little Italy has some ridiculously delicious restaurants scattered around. It's so cool you're going to be in the area! XD

I don’t think I own a single lip liner! I used to think i didn’t need them because I rarely wear lip liner but seeing your post using lip liners under Evolution Revolution is making me change my stance!
Oh, and the conference sounds amazing! i can’t wait to hear about your trip. Oh, poor Tabs! He’s going to miss you!
Amber says
Beurre is my go-to when I use a liner! My favorite liner is Dervish, but my lips are usually too dry for the regular pencils.
Larie says
I just reviewed Sublime Culture! It’s the first lip liner I’ve ever tried and I love the color of it. I think I will try layering gloss over it – thanks for the tip 🙂
Tavi says
I’ve been meaning to go swatch the cremestick sublime culture, but you beat me to it 🙂 It definitely looks like the perfect pinkish/nude color!
Sonya says
I will have to check these out – dryness is one major problem I find in many lip liners. Layering gloss over a liner is a great idea, too!
The conference sounds interesting. I’m especially intrigued by #7!
Vijaya says
I always love seeing pets + Evolution Revolution. =D
Chris25 says
Honey B looks smashing. I’ve been using NYX liners this summer, and I’d buy Bobbi Brown liners if they weren’t so darn expensive.
Have a good time at BlogHer!
Alka says
I’ve had my eye on summerfruit since your EvRev combos post! Oh boy, my Mac must have list is getting out of control. 😉
Totally crushing on Zeus! <3 So handsome.
Have fun at the conference in SD…remember to lock up the turkey and gravy…or has Tabs already planned the big block party? I just got back from a week on the beach to find that Wally had broken into the pantry and liberated a box of melba toasts. I swear one of these days he's going to learn how to work the can opener.
helen says
Thanks, Alka– Zeus is my sweet boy! I am totally crushing on him as well! You can’t really tell in the picture, but he has one blue eye and one amber/greenish eye. He keeps us super busy with his constant high energy antics, he’s a hilarious character!
Nina says
enjoy your conference! 🙂
i have not used the cremestick liners …. but i will check them out!
Nicole says
Cremestick Liner freak over here!!! What, what!! LOL 🙂 I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t reach for one. They are to my lips what mascara is for my lashes…the perfect partner. My faves are without a doubt Gingerroot & Pink Treat. Love, love <3
cessprin says
Ooooh I can’t wait to try them, but Karen which cremestick do you think would be a dupe for subculture??
Mary says
You crack me up with lines like “I have one last stick of it left, and when that one gives up the ghost, I plan to pour a 40 on the sidewalk in its honor…” 😛 I know exactly how you feel when you love a product so much and are on the last stretch of it.
Brian McD aka Roulette says
I truly wish I could share your enthusiasm for these…!!
All of mine (beurre, gingeroot, and sublime culture) dried out, broke off, are sheer, take forever to build, once you apply gloss or lipstick over I find you are unable to reapply or just to blend…
I am still obviously carrying a flame for the longer wearing old-school sharpener style liner. I have a grape and an oak one from pre-2000 that are still creamy lol. 🙂
I noticed lots of folks talking about the sharpener style being dry and hard to apply. I was taught early on to apply lip-liner first, then fill with lipstick. Now after many years of experience when I give lessons or do makeovers, I almost always apply a thin coat of lipstick first, then line after. I find the extra slip that the lipstick around the edge gives helps the liner blend out and I find doesn’t really affect the wear time. Does anybody else do this??
PS, Speaking of liners….Has anybody heard an update on the missing GlamGlass launch? I was gonna pick up every single new limited liner to add to my collection!!!

Omgosh Zeus is so pretty!
I love his eyes, he is partially white and his hind legs are black?
How adorable. I have a pure white cat with the exact same eyes.
