The holidays are a great time to go glam with vivid colors like MAC Ruby Woo ($14.50).
Heck, even the trees get all dolled up this time of year! It’s the perfect opportunity to push the envelope with your look, and nothing says “holiday party” like a pigmented red lip. 🙂
Coral red Ruby Woo is wearing warmer attire than my other go-to crimson cutie, MAC Russian Red. It has a warmer tone that I like to pair with shimmery gold shadows and looks with thick cat liner.
As one of MAC’s long-wearing Matte finish lippies, Ruby Woo won’t leave the party early. I can apply it in the morning and know it’ll still be there at midnight, which makes it an ideal companion when I don’t want to worry about frequent touch-ups throughout the evening. I usually apply two thin layers — making sure that they’re thin — because any more than that and Ruby Woo starts to feel heavy on my lips.
For me the Matte’s do have one drawback… They can be quite drying, so I like to prep my lips beforehand with a rich balm before swiping on this sassy siren.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love that my computer screen cannot handle the insanity that is Ruby Woo! It looks like it’s glowing! Unfortunately, I really can’t deal with very dry lipsticks. So I might just opt for Russian Red, which I’ve heard is much more forgiving in the moisture department (but just as stunning!)

I’m in absolute LOVE with Ruby Woo; it’s such a pretty colour and you can get away with a red lip without it being a bit too much. I also love Diva though but it’s a lot sexier, redder and deeper than Ruby Woo.

Hi Karen! That lipstick looks AMAZING on you! Just so pretty!
Kate says
Karen, that color is amazing on you! It really compliments your skin and makes those pearly whites look even whiter. Truly beautiful.
I’ve got a good collection of reds going, although I tend to fall on the cooler, pinkier side of things. Current favs include MAC Ladybug (for a sheer everyday look), NARS Shanghai Express (semi-matte, brick red) and Laura Mercier Truly Red (a true red that’s reminiscent of Mad Men-1960s hues). I think Ruby Woo may be too warm for me but I’ll try it out next time I pass the counter.

That’s such a striking red on you Karen! I think I need Ruby Woo. 🙂

Too much blue for my skin, but that color looks so lovely on you!
Carmela says
This is, by far, my favorite red on you, Karen! It has such a fresh and chic vibe to it. I’m guessing the matte finish helps a lot with making it look so fresh. I wish I could handle them but even with an awesome balm underneath, I end up with chapped lips that just aren’t pretty at the end of the day. I shall just have to live vicariously through you! 🙂

Apply in the morning and it’s still there at midnight? Must check this amazing lipstick out!

That’s so pretty but I can’t handle the dryness.

You look better than Salma Hayek when you wear Ruby Woo. My fave MAC red lipstick is Charred Red (pro).

That is a gorgeous colour. I am honestly hooked on red as a lip colour. Question Karan, if I already own the Mac Wonder woman’s collection of the red colour, should I still get the Ruby Woo? The shades seems somewhat similar in the picture.
Vonvon says
I want this and Russian Red too!
Lucie says
Ruby Woo was my very first red lipstick, remember wearing it every day in the ninth grade to stand out among my bare faced peers! Still like to have a tube in my bag at all times, it’s a never fail red.
DalaLuz says
Gorgeous! I’m not sure I would dare to wear such an intense color (I’m more of a timid tinted lip balm gal), but I sure wish I would after seeing it on you!
Trayceeee says
I have read that this is a great red for women of color! I just bought Mac Rebel lipstick (haven’t been brave enough to wear it outside my house yet) and I think this is another color I need to add to my collection. I really need to get out of my nudes and MLBB colors.
Amber says
You look fantastic….what are you wearing on your eyes?
Nina says
this is hands down, my fave-est red ever!!!
Shan says
I literally JUST bought a tube of Ruby Woo on Sunday. And I’ve been wearing it every day since. It runs cooler on me than Russian Red did, but that’s a good thing. It makes my teeth look whiter, my face look brighter.. heck, it does everything but give me an actual facelift 🙂 Def one of my fave reds from MAC.

I do alot of online shopping and I found your blog pasted all over google images! Since you and ‘i have very similar coloring and I wanted a matte red, I went with ruby woo and I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED! Its all I have been wearing for days! Love your blog, love your swatches and I am sooooo happy with the color! I am on to your tarte lip surge page now!

I love this color and your posts! I recently at 34 started embracing my womanhood! (I’m still a tomboy at heart). However, so many blogs and posts are of women who are no where near mr combo skin color. I stubled on this website and its brilliant! I loove Ruby Woo and I too was only comfortable in either nothing or plae pinks! Give it a go but I go lots of compliments on it and you will get use to how amazing you will look in it! I can’t wait to wear mine out and take picts! Thanks Karen for all your info and advice! :o)
