Instead of doing one of the millions of things I should have been doing this morning, like shaving my toes (those hairs pop up overnight!), figuring out what to do with the rest of my life, or assisting Tabs with his aromatherapy (by rubbing catnip leaves on his cheeks, which he loves), I lined up all of the dark MAC lippies I plan to wear in October.
Of course, some of the brand’s old-school baddies were there, like Russian Red, Dubonnet and Paramount, as were a few newer colors from Styledriven and Posh Paradise.
I was separating tubes by finish (obsessive much?) when an idea struck me like a wayward jar of Fluidline flying through the air…
This is the kind of party that MAC Mocha Blush ($19.50) should also attend. 🙂
Here it is in a subdued look with MAC Evolution Revolution Lipglass atop Subculture Lip Liner.
I think it’s tough to go wrong with Mocha this time of year. It applies as a matte plummy pink that just seems to go well with the kinds of rich red, plum and brown lipsticks we see a lot in fall.
The color sings on a range of skin tones, from porcelain princesses (like Dita Von Teese, who says she loves it) to caramel cuties, and whenever I feel like wearing a soft, subdued pink, but either can’t find Blushbaby or want something a tad different, I grab Mocha.
I like that I don’t have to worry too much about blending out the edges with it because it’s very well behaved and a cinch to apply (I usually use the swirl method with a couple of layers); great for mornings when I’m running late. Matter of fact, that’s what I did for these pics right before running out the door for lunch.
Move over Helvetica…
…because there’s a new font in town!
Yep, Llama.
Why send that heartfelt message to your friend in boring old Courier, Helvetica or Arial when you can say it and so much more with Llama Font instead? 🙂
Best. Thing. Ever.
Well, at least to this font freak.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I think this color looks great on you- very natural.
Maybe someday Tabs will be immortilized with his own font?
Karen says
That would be AMAZING. All of the letters would have to be bold, of course, because of his “huskiness.”
Heidi says
I think Mocha was my first MAC blush, if memory serves. Either that or Prism.
And I would TOTALLY use a Tabs font, but until that comes to pass, the llamas are AWESOME!
Jen says
I wore Mocha to my June 2009 wedding. Loved it – so easy to use.
Jessi says
Aw! I love Llama font! Now Tabs needs a font of his own called “Husky Tabby”.
This blush is gorgeous on you! I don’t own any MAC blushes, but if Dita Von Teese can pull this off as the palest of the pale I’m sure I can too.
Crystal says
I need to stop reading your blog (or at least your MAC Unsung Heroes series) because every time you post something new, I feel the need to go out and purchase it (Soft Ochre paintpot, Ricepaper shadow, Melon pigment, etc.) Haha.
corinne says
How close is Mocha to Blushbaby?
Karen says
Hi Corrine,
That’s Mocha on the left and Blushbaby on the right:
corinne says
thanks! they are different enough to have both
Emma says
Just bought this Saturday and love it! I was looking for something a bit different than my usual cubic (I’m a timid blush wearer) and he suggested mocha. It’s lovely : )
peach_ says
LOL llama font! The warmth of the blush looks so nice on you, Karen!
Michelle says
I love love Mocha too! Thanks for reminding me that I have it…clearly have too many blushes 😉
Carrie Ann says
I love this blush! It’s kind of a goes-with-anything blush, gives a natural-looking flush and it’s so pretty! Definitely one of my faves. 🙂
Kajal Couture says
Ditto to what Crystal said. Your unsung mac heroes make me want to drop what im doing and run to mac!
Karen says
Glad you enjoy the series! There’s a lot of gems in the permanent line. 🙂
Chris25 says
You shave your toes too? Glad to know I’m not alone. :p
I almost bought Mocha, but before I did, I heard about NYX’s dupe for it. I wound up buying NYX Mocha instead.
Karen says
Haha, believe it or not it happens a lot! I wrote about it a while back:

Nina says
oh how i love Mocha i mean … misnomer and all, its a gorgeous, wearable, suitable to almost all skntones blush! 🙂
Karen says
YES! Plus it’s super easy to use. 🙂
Nina says
totally! when im at a loss with what to use for blush, mocha is IT!
Kim says
SHRIEK! The Llama font is fantastic – love it!! I’m confused by the mocha blush, though. It’s lovely, but not at all mocha. What in the world? Oh, never mind. Who cares about anything else when there is Llama font?!! 🙂
Karen says
Yeah… you’d think it would be more chocolatey or coffee-esque, right?
What are you and the boys up to this weekend?
Josephine says
I love mocha! One of my first mac blush’s! The plum in it really compliments my NC20-NC25 south asian skintone. It makes my cheekbones pop! Love it!! Definitely a fav among many!
Also, karen, how did you know I LOVE llamas. hehe Here’s a picture that will make you go aw: http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lottipBLkl1r0txyuo1_500.jpg
They’re just too fluffy and cute!
Karen says
Aww, that pic is adorable. I want one, LOL!
Sarah S. says
Toe hairs and llama font XD
Jen W says
Ok, Mocha is next on my list. I can’t believe I’ve never tried this before.

When did the Unsung Hero come out I haven’t seen or heard of it and I would love to get this collection? Thanks
