“Lady Danger to Ruby Woo! Lady Danger to Ruby Woo! Come in, Ruby Woo! Do you copy? Over.”
“This is Ruby Woo. I read you loud and clear, Lady Danger. What’s your 20? Has Russian Red been neutralized? Over.”
“That’s affirmative, cap’n. Russian Red has been neutralized. I’m leaving the checkpoint now. Returning to base. Over.”
“Copy that, Lady Danger. Good work!”
Russian Red, Ruby Woo and Lady Danger may sound like secret agent codenames, but they’re actually three of MAC’s most popular red lipsticks.
If Russian Red’s too cool for you, but Ruby isn’t quite warm enough, give pinup worthy MAC Lady Danger a try ($14.50). More coral than red, it has a matte finish like both Ruby Woo and Russian Red, but it’s warmer than both of them.
I love all three colors, but I reach for Lady Danger more often when I’m in a playful mood. Like Ruby Woo, it’s on the warmer end of the spectrum, but I think it has a very faint shine that loosens it up a little. Ruby Woo seem more formal and dressier to me.
Lady Danger (left) with Ruby Woo (right) for comparison
The MAC mattes last a good, long while on my lips, and Lady Danger is no exception. She’ll stick around through a 12-hour day, but just like other MAC mattes, she can be quite drying, so I’ll wear her on top of a layer of moisturizing lip balm.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. I hope you got through today without any major drama for your mama. What was the highlight of your day? Mine was probably my run a little earlier tonight. I struggled through five miles, which was about four miles more than I wanted to run.
P.P.S. Oh, did you happen to catch The Walking Dead last night? More melodrama (wah!), but those last few minutes sure were intense! What did you think? I sure feel sorry for Rick…

LOVE reds recently, my Ruby Woo has been getting so much use. Thanks for these posts, Karen!
Kath says
Russian red is a staple for me. Gosh, that walking dead season finale made me cry over a zombie. I’m such a big zombie fanatic, and practically watched every movie there is, but nothing made me feel as emotionally intense as last night’s episode. Can’t wait to see the walkers back on Feb.
Chris25 says
My next MAC lipstick is going to be Amorous. Have you ever tried Jest eyeshadow? I bought it today!
Leah says
I loved your clever intro, Karen. Russian Red is my tried and true blue red, but I totally agree about Lady Danger being more playful and I’ve been favoring this shade more lately. She always looks great with Redd lipliner. What liner do you use?
Amber says
Karen, I finally got Ruby Woo! The universe kept pointing me toward it. Need Russian Red, too.
I like Ruby Woo more than I expected, just need an occasion to wear it now. 🙂
Karen says
SWEET! What made you decide to finally get it? I hope you’re rocking it with a bold cat eye. 🙂
Amber says
Been intending to for a while — just being lazy. I have had a craving for red for a while now. Getting older and bolder. 🙂
Nikki T says
I want to try this color! is it similar to power suit?
Shirley Manson (of Garbage) wrote a blog within the past few months where she highlights her favorite make-up goodies and Lady Danger was one of them.
Jessica says
Funny that you posted a swatch of Lady Danger next to Ruby Woo – my favorite way to wear Lady Danger is in the center of my lips over Ruby Woo. They look great together!
corallista says
Looks amazing on u! I myself prefer cooler reds but this looks worth checking out.
MariamDad says
Russian Red is a favorite but I have not tried Ruby Woo and Lady Danger! I will now.
Karen you brought a smile on lips with your lovely personification of the three ladies 🙂 Great way to start my day 🙂 thank you!
You have a lovely day/night!
Vonvon says
Now I want all the 3 reds!
Good thing they are permanent. Then I am in no hurry to get them. Perhaps, I will exchange my 6 MAC empties for one of them? 🙂
terry says
karennnnnn can you PLEASE show russian red? that’s the one i’ve secretly always wanted to buy but never had the courage to… if you swatch it it might just enable me, LOL.
Karen says
Hi Terry,
You can see detailed swatches here:

HTH!
Marina says
Looks stunning on you, Karen!
Marian says
That’s my kind of red. I need the warm reds.
Nika says
Only shade I have among the three is Russian Red. 🙂 All I can say is that Lady Danger suits you real well!
Karen says
Russian Red is a great color! What eyes do you like to pair it with?
Nina says
this lipstick makes me think of that song — “hold on tight, y’know she’s a little bit dangerrrouuussss…” haha!
i <3 Lady Danger – i dig warm reds a lot!
the last 5 minutes of TWD were the best 5 minutes of this season. i really hope they pick it up when they come back from hiatus.
i dont necessarily agree with their decision to do what they did … they were after all guests in that farm. plus … im really really really beginning to dislike Shane. what an a**.
Karen says
Oh my gosh, ROXETTE! You just got totally ’90s on me. 🙂
I agree with you regarding the last five minutes of the show. It got really Lord of the Flies there at the end. I hope they bring that edge-of-your-seat tension back come February. I miss that from the first season.
I’m glad, though, that they’ve developed a couple of characters who I ended up really liking (Glen and Daryl).
Nina says
i <3 Glen and Daryl too and im happy with the way their stories have been developed thus far!
crazy crazy ending — made up for a bit of a boring half season thus far!
roxette FTW! LOL and yes i did get totally 90s on you for a moment tharrrr!!! 😀
Karen says
I felt that this season has been kinda slow compared to last. I think it has to do with Frank Darabont leaving the show along with budget issues (apparently it’s very expensive to make… must be all that zombie makeup, haha).
I listed to Roxette all the time circa 1989/1990 after Pretty Woman came out and they were on the soundtrack. It must’ve been love, but it’s oooooooover now! LOL
Nina says
i just hope the show doesnt get any slower … 🙂
i loved pretty woman and its soundtrack … that brings back memories!
Swatch And Learn says
I like how bright and fun this colour looks on your lips, and the name (Lady Danger) is pretty cool, too. I still haven’t rocked a bold red lip yet. I need to do more research before I invest in one, and hopefully it’ll be something I love and that I’ll wear beyond the holiday season.
Your swatches have been very helpful as always, Karen. Thank you!
Karen says
You can rock a bold red lip! If you feel uncomfortable at first, maybe just wear it around the house so you can get used to it. That’s what I do with colors I’m unfamiliar with.
Swatch And Learn says
That’s a good idea. I think it’s just that there are so many great reds out there that it gets confusing when it comes to picking out which shade would look best.
I have a yellow undertone, so I’m guessing I should use a warm-based red…but there are still so many options…hehe!
Hey, if you don’t already have a post about tips and tricks for choosing a bold red lipstick, would you consider putting one up, Karen? I think a lot of people would find it so helpful! 🙂
Kali says
Oh! Lady Danger looks so good on you! I will definitely have to check this out next time I’m at the MAC counter!
Karen says
Thanks! It’s a fab color; I think you’ll love it. 🙂
Kali says
Do you wear a lip liner with it? I’ve been trying to get more into lipsticks/liners lately…
Karen says
Hi Kali,
Sometimes I do (depends on how much time I have). MAC Redd or any nude lip liner works great.
Chelsea says
Oooh, this looks like something I’d like. I’d have to try it on though.
Karen says
You should! It’s a great color, especially if you like a vintage, 40s pin-up look.
What are your current MAC lipstick faves?
Rebecca says
The Walking Dead! OMG! My jaw was on the floor and I had tears in my eyes at the end of the last episode. That never even crossed my mind as a possibility; I always just assumed (and hoped) it would be the usual TV formula and they would find her. But I can also really appreciate the fact that they went there! And can I just say that I <3 Darryl?!?
Insidious says
I like to wear lip liners with my lipsticks..what would be a good lip liner blend for the Ruby Woo??? 🙂
charry mae says
gosh,it looks good on you! 🙂 now I’m more confused. I’m torn between ruby woo and lady danger. They’re ALWAYS out of stock in our mac counters so I never had the chance to swatch them. it’s my first time to get a red lipstick so I’m kinda hesitant. but I reeeaally wanna try it! all my lipsticks are pinks, I gotta have at least one red! haha! which one do you think would look better on an nc40-ish? I have brown eyes and dark brown hair, btw 🙂 Thank you! I love your blog btw!
Brit says
How would you compare lady danger to houglass’s raven? I love raven but am looking for a more affordable lipstick.
