It’s time, friend…
Time to clap our hands and stomp our feet! Time to raise our hands to the sky and testify to the dawn of a new era! — the season of smokey eyes!
Oh, fall… You make me so sad when you shoo summer away, but then your cool, crisp winds give me an excuse to bust out my MAC Greensmoke Eyeshadow ($15), one of my favorites for smokey eyes.
MAC describes it as a tarnished olive, but Greensmoke is so much more than that.
On my NC42 skin, I get a smokey, grayish khaki with flashes of golden pearl and flecks of silver glitter. It’s a complex color, and one I can’t recall seeing duped by anyone else.
Packing it my lids or applying it with a wet brush brings out more of the golden pearl and greenish tones, while buffing it coaxes out more of Greensmoke’s gray.
For a different, and wonderfully complex, take on smokey eyes, I’ll apply Tarnished Eye Kohl as a base all over my lids, layer Greensmoke on top (I keep wanting to type “Gunsmoke”), and then buff out the edges.
Wearing MAC Greensmoke atop Tarnish Eye Kohl
I think it looks really pretty with pink or peach cheeks and lips. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. I’m packing right now and leaving for Tahoe in a few minutes. Hope you’re having a nice day so far! See you at the lake in just a few.

I have swatched it so many times at MAC but everytime, the texture is just so darn dry I can barely get any pigment on my fingertip. Do you face any problems with the texture Karen? Maybe the tester at my MAC store has been sitting out too long which is why it feels so stiff.
Fieran says
Ankita 🙂 I have the same problem with mine actually. It’s about a year old or so. I’ve just been using it anyway, on top of a black base and it works fine.
Ankita@corallista says
Thanks Fieran, I still can’t seem to bring myself to purchase it somehow! I have to have buttery smooth eye shadows!
Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex says
I just picked this up at MAC last week and love it. It’s definitely a fabulous and complex color.
Emily says
This looks like a great everyday option, I looove green on brown eyes. This one has some depth too, very dusty and good for smokey eyes.
Nina says
I love this eyeshadow and how its really versatile! 🙂
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Ahhh this is so on my MAC wish list! Such a pretty smokey eye!
Have fun at the lake Karen!

Love how this works with Tarnish kohl AND your outfit!
And I am a fan of this whole “Unsung heroes” series :).

I have to remember to incorporate this e/s into a photo shoot look someday. 🙂

Greensmoke looks like another color I will have to check out. I have Woodwinked and Mulch on my list of things to buy, too. I finally tried the 2 colors I bought from the Electric Cool collection, Infra-Violet and Highly Charged, and I really like them. Infra-Violet is really similar to UD’s Fishnet, but Fishnet is more of a duochrome than Infra-Violet. Highly Charged is a gorgeous purple similar to Victoria’s Secret’s eyeshadow in Taboo. Both shades go very well together and create a pretty look for green, brown or hazel eyes (purple and pink tend to bring out and accentuate those eye colors pretty well, I have noticed). Have fun at Tahoe – I’ve never been but it’s a place I am dying to go to at some point!
Crystal says
That color looks beautiful!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Love! I could have sworn I had Greensmoke and was looking for it after reading your post so I could use it later, but now I can’t find it 🙁
kariseip says
I have Greensmoke and wear it with a dark teal liner. I am not sure why it works but the shadow is complex enough to pull it off.
Sara says
I got it recently and love it!!!! I think it looks amazing with dark eyes (which I have too 🙂 )
I have been doing a smoky eye with feline blended from the upper lash line and it is really simple and pretty. Contrast is another mac e/s where this looks really nice as well.
Btw you look amazing.
Kisses from Spain,
Sara

Doesn’t look very olive to me, but whatever, I like it alot! 🙂
Kim says
It has a really nice shimmer and is great in your smokey eye look. I think Miss Kitty would love it, and Marshall Dillon would approve. 😉
