Like many romances, this one starts with a dramatic hook: “It was a dark and stormy night…”
Okay, well, it could have been a humid afternoon, but that just doesn’t sound as good. 🙂
One fateful night about 10 years ago I stopped by a MAC counter to get a new tube of MAC Spite. One of the artists there suggested I pick up something else to go along with it, a sheer beige and pink powder blush called Blushbaby ($19.50).
Was she kidding?, I wondered, crinkling my brow. This? It didn’t look like much in the pan, just a basic pinkish beige powder, but the artist whipped out her brush, spoke some magic words (not really), and that was that. One look in the mirror and I said, “Sold!”
Before Blushbaby, I never really thought much of blush. I used to think it made me look like a tiny brown clown, but Blushbaby changed all that. Now, I’m unabashedly pro-blush — a blush ho, if you will (LOL!).
Blushbaby has MAC’s Sheertone finish, and consequently it’s super sheer. The Sheertones produce a very classic, natural-looking cheek flush. The look is gentle and soft, but the pigments can still be built up to pack a little more punch.
I think this particular Sheertone looks fantastic on a wide range of skin tones and makes a great everyday shade. I’ve seen it worn by both lighter lovelies and divas darker than me, and it has always looked good.
Swatch of Blushbaby built up using several layers
It also seems to have the legs to last all day long, which means not having to lug it around with me when I leave the house. No touch-ups necessary half way through the day.
To switch things up, sometimes I’ll enhance it with a little shimmer on my cheekbones.
There are only a handful of blushes with which I’ve ever hit the pan, and Blushbaby is one of ’em. Think about giving it a swipe on one of your next visits to the MAC counter. You might just fall in love.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Oo, I’ve been looking for a new blush! My current fav, MAC Sur, is not working well with my tan, but the thought of going shopping for blush makes me shudder. So hard to find natural-looking shades!
Nina says
i have sur too … try it w/ a bit of a copper base. it kinda deepens the color and makes it more at home w/ a tan. 🙂

I’m a blush ho too! I’ve hit pan mostly on cream blushes, because they are so easy to wear and look so natural. My most recent fave is Jemma Kidd (yes from Target!) Blush Concentrate.

I love this unsung hero series! Sometimes it seems like we get so caught up with new new new that we forget all the great stuff that has already came out. I’m not so sure this would work on really really pale skin. Do you think it would look too dirty-ish?
Siena says
this blush looks so great! and just saying, you look really good in pink. 🙂

I own this blush and I never wear often. Altough, I have always had a soft spot for it.
Michelle says
Love it!! This was my first MAC blush. I wore it everyday for like 3 years, before I realized I could branch out (and now I have too many blushes to count) 🙂

This looks nice! I was looking through my blushes the other day and realized that I tend to buy the same color over and over again- corals or peach! I have so many of them :-/ I definately need to branch out.
Paula Rose says
Love the blush, but what are you wearing on your lips??
megan says
The first blush that did that for me was MAC Feeling beauty power blush. I stayed away from blush before, I too was afraid of looking like a clown. But Feeling changes all that!
Wendy says
The blush looks great on you. And, what are you wearing on your lips? Love the shade!

Wow, it’s uncanny how much our makeup tastes match! (Which is why I adore your blog!) Blushbaby is my ultimate, all time favorite everyday blush! I go through one package every so often and it is the only blush that I have bought over and over again! It’s truly a great color for many skin tones! Gorgeous on everyone! I so hope they never take this gem away!
