Calypso Beat Cremesheen Glass, part of the new MAC Tropical Taboo collection, and I have been glued at the hip — or rather, the lips — since last week.
It started as a red hot affair, but definitely no one night stand. Now I’m in it for the long haul…or until the next peachy nude gloss comes along (whichever comes first).
Calypso Beat isn’t just beautiful on its own. I also think it’s great for layering with other lip products, and I’ve been trying it with some combos, mixing and matching with the Mineralize Rich Lipsticks and Lip Pencils from the same Tropical Taboo collection (just for fun).
I stumbled on a few lip looks that I really like…
What do you think? Do these give you any combo ideas?
The highs and lows of hi-low hems…
Please excuse the lack of footwear in this pic. I wanted to wear my Franco Sarto wedges, but I would not have been able to do it without falling on my @ss! The shoes would have gotten caught on the hi-low hem.
I’ve been seeing this style all over the place and have been dying to give it a try. It seemed perfect for short vertically challenged girls like myself.
Like the mullet of the dress world, it’s business in the front, party in the back. 🙂
Thing is, for the life of me, I just can’t walk a straight line in this thing. I’ve almost tripped on the back hem about 20 times today, and half of those times I was just standing still.
I wonder if there are other gals out there who’ve nearly bitten it hard while wearing this style, or if I’m really that uncoordinated, le sigh…
Hope you had a nice day today. What are you doing for the Fourth?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I haven’t been that interested in any MAC collection in a while, but damn those Cremesheens look so tempting! Also, I have a love-hate thing with hi-low hems – I personally don’t find that it helps with my height at all!
Karen says
Hi Fie,
They are really lovely glosses, especially if you like lightweight and non-sticky textures.
Anything else from the collection catch your eye?

The shades looks so tempting and very pretty on you 🙂
Karen says
Hi Gowthami,
Thanks!

Pretty makeup. Gonna have to head to the Mac store to take a look.

Loved the Glamour Era Mineralize Rich Lipstick combo 🙂 Great post!

Thanks, Lancy. Have a nice day!

Oh wait, I just commented and then realized I didn’t comment on the hi-low dress. I love them, but being that I am short AND chubby it doesn’t seem like I could pull off that dress. My niece just had a hi-low skirt on in solid black when I saw her last and she looked adorable, although she’s 14 and slim so of course she looks adorable. I just found your blog while searching for a skin illuminator and saw your recommendation from Sonia K. Your review was from last August. Hopefully Sonia still makes this. I’ll head to Target this week to look. Your blog is great, your a funny gal. Oh and by the way, you asked about the 4th. My sister is getting married and her rehersal is actually on the 4th……all the way in Redlands…..that seems far from the OC, but that’s what we’re doin!!

Those lip combos looks good on you. I skipped on this collection because I don’t think I can pull it off like you did.
Karen says
Hi Charisma,
Thanks! Aww, there are some things here you could pull off, I think. Definitely the MSFs!

All the combos look so good on you, I love the look with Have to Have it Lip pencil. And I love your dress! I could never wear one.
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Thanks, my friend! Have to Have It Lip Pencil is lovely, especially if you like nude lip looks.
What are your plans for the 4th?
Agata says
No plans, I have to work all day. Normally it’s a tradition that my parents in law have a big party but this year because everyone is busy getting ready for the wedding on Sat, there is no party. I will make my hubby make me a good dinner 🙂

Very pretty! You are terrible for my budget!

Karen,
The dress is FAB!! You didn’t say who makes it or where you got it–please do tell!
thanks
Anne Marie

Karen, you look so amazing in so many shades. I’m pale as untouched snow, so anything mildly adventurous ends up looking disastrous on me.
