I’m sitting here at my ask wearing a tank top and shorts (no, not booty shorts…although I kinda wish they were) for the first time in… I can’t remember, and, of course, to go with my springtime ensemble, I’m also wearing blue and green eyeshadow. Because it’s spring (the sunny part). And fun times shall be had by all. 🙂
What’s an unsung makeup hero? For me, it’s an oftentimes underrated makeup morsel, a permanent collection product that scoots under the radar screen of many makeup lovers but regularly rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorites.
So, on account of the blue/green action on my lids today, I’m also wearing MAC Technakohl Liner in Take the Plunge.
Intensely pigmented teal Take the Plunge is a knockout on water lines, and if you wear blue, green or, heck, gold or neutral eyeshadows, and you pop Take the Plunge along your water line, your eyes will strike down strangers in their tracks. BOOM! Especially if you have brown eyes.
No, seriously! Take the Plunge would stop somebody dead in their tracks, and they’d be like, “GURL! What’s happening on your water line?!”
OK…so maybe most people wouldn’t do that, but I totally would (and I may have in the past, haha #makeupweirdo).
Take the Plunge is part of the MAC Technakohl Liner fam, which is MAC’s line of twist-up eyeliners. They have a super skinny tip, so you don’t have to use a pencil sharpener to sharpen them.
I mostly wear it along my water line, because I love what it does for my brown eyes. I think they look much more chocolatey. 🙂 But I also think it looks amazing along lash lines, too. Plus, you can really get between your lashes with that tip.
The creamy formula also smudges well, so it’s easy to buff out with a brush, which means that it ALSO works great as a base for powder shadows.
Sometimes I’ll use it as a cream shadow by layering it on top of powder shadows in the outer corner. No matter what I do with it, it lasts all day, too!
And, most importantly, on my eyes, which are prone to freak out, Take the Plunge never makes my water lines water, or feel itchy, dry or otherwise funky.
It’s $17, and I love it so much that I maintain not one, but two backups at any given time. Because I can’t risk not having one around.
Like I mentioned, I think it rocks with green and blue shadows like MAC Steamy, Plumage, Club, Deep Truth and Electric Eel, but I think it also looks lovely with any sort of peachy/beige/champagne neutral (All That Glitters is a good one). Sometimes I’ll do a golden brown like Soba on my lids and smudge Take the Plunge along my lash and water lines for a little something extra.
Take the plunge! Check it out! 🙂 It’s well worth a swatch.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Wow! I love the blue eyeliner. I have brown eyes and never thought about wearing any other eyeliner shade but brownish-black. I have been giving some thought to the new Nars eyeshadow duo Old Church Street with the blue-teal shadow for an event I have coming up and for a spring/summer lookk. I wanted to get an eyeliner to work with it as an alternative to my usual. I may not get the MAC one, but something similar. Thanks for the idea!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
You’re welcome! I hope you try the blue because it looks amazing on brown eyes.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying NARS these days. They’re one of my fave lines to wear because they handle color so elegantly, but yet they still have that edge.

You are right, your eyes look so chocolatey with this liner! For my greenish eyes I don’t think it would work as well, but I like the overall color explosion you have going on. Very spring appropriate, even though it is rainy and cold here in Germany.
Karen says
Thanks, lady! I hope your weather gets better soon.

I LOVE your eye look! Those colors are just gorgeous on you. They look beautiful with your eye color and your skin tone.
Karen says
Thanks, Sandoz! Are you a MAC fan, too?
Hope you had a great Tuesday!

What do you use to make your skin look like you do not have pores? Just beautiful.
Karen says
Hi Patricia,
I use a lot of pore-blurring makeup. I like primer, foundation, concealer and powder that mellows out the look of pores. If you want specific product recommendations let me know! I also try to use as little product as possible. I find that the more makeup I wear on my skin, the more my pores seem to pop out. And, let’s get real… Good lighting really helps too. 🙂

I love this color……You can do colors so beautifully! I have hazel eyes&just started wearing green&navy eyeliner with a simple, neutral shadow, thanks to your posts ☺ Baby steps lol I don’t think I can go back to brown eyeliner anymore, I feel blah now.
Karen says
That’s how you start, Diana. Baby steps! Soon you’ll feel comfortable enough to try different colors. Years ago I would’ve *never* thought to wear blue or green or red for that matter. Now I’m like, “Let’s see what craziness we can put in the crease!” By the way, my husband has hazel eyes, and when I was pregnant with Connor, part of me hoped she’d get his eye color because I think hazel eyes are so, so beautiful. You should try purple liner if you haven’t already. MAC Prunella would be great on you!
Diana says
Thanks Karen, I appreciate all the hard work you put into your reviews&photos…you are my kind of “craziness” you make me laugh each post! Fantastic, thanks for recommending Mac Prunella. I did try a purple but I think it had too much red in it…. So funny, I always wanted my sisters dark brown eyes like yours ? Noone could figure out what my eyecolor was to put on my drivers license lol green or light brown? Light gold?
I’m hanging in there with you, I will make you proud with crease work next…

Beautiful colours! You are inspiring me to shop my stash. I might try this with UD eyeliners in Deviant and Graffiti. I love this series!
Karen says
Thanks, Sonia! I’m happy to help you re-discover old faves. If you try it, please let me know how it turns out. 🙂
Cory says
I love this look, Karen!!! I had to stop in & stare (& read)! ?
Karen says
Hi Cory,
Thanks, friend! Do you think you might try to do it?! I’d love to see it on ya!
Chelsea says
I’ve never tried teal liner! I’ll have to test one sometime.
Karen says
Yes, do! It’ll open up a whole new world of makeup looks. You don’t have to use it with just brights, either! Teal (especially dark teal), looks amazing with neutrals.
Did you wear your UD liner today?
Chelsea says
Not today, but I wore a different UD liner that was just brown.
Kim says
Such a great look for you! 🙂 Btw, I love the font you used in the Take the Plunge swatch. I know, font nerd. I never know the names, just what I like. HAHA!
Karen says
Girl, I wish that was a font! It’s my handwriting. LOL!
How’s the weather out here? Connor Claire and I just got back from a walk and it’s hot, hot, hot here!
