I could easily take down either a bucketful of lychees or a bucketful of persimmons, which are two of my Top 5 Fave Fruits of All Time.
Who has a list like that? Apparently, I do.
- Watermelon
- Lychee
- Persimmon
- Honeycrisp apples
- Strawberries
BAM.
There’s a Lychee and a Persimmon in the MAC Robert Lee Morris collection, but they aren’t in the fruit family! They’re Mattene Lipsticks, and there are six in the limited edition launch, which you’ll only be able to get through December 14th, so if you see something you like, FYI, time is of the essence.
Robert Lee Morris is a renowned jewelry designer, and everything in the collection (there’s also blushes, face powders and brushes) has limited edition packing, which looks kinda medieval to me…like Game of Thrones red wedding jewelry.
The Mattene Lipsticks show up in LE collections every once in a while, and I can’t figure out why MAC just doesn’t make them permanent already, because man, I love the formula!
These pigmented, lightweight semi-matte lipsticks come in a slim bullet, and they aren’t your run-of-the-mill super drying flat mattes. They feel like a straight-up cream, so they’re comfortable and don’t dry out your lips.
The Chanel Velvet formula (which I also love) is very similar.
I freehand-ed all of these swatches, BTW. I didn’t need a liner or a brush or anything, not even with the brightest color, Pomegranate, which, by the way, is a GORGEOUS red with a very slight blue berry undertone.
It really POPS.
They last about four hours, and they smell and taste like vanilla.
Grab one while you can at MAC counters and online before they go back into MAC cold storage for a while. They’re $25 each.

Karen

I think I need persimmon! I always want that shade but I can never find one that’s not too pastel like or has a white base.
Karen says
Hi Victoria,
It’s one of my faves from the bunch (and not just because it’s a fave fruit). It’s smooth, creamy and super pigmented. Do you wear lots of bronze/warm browns on your eyes? Should be perfect with those colors.
Happy almost Friday!
Victoria says
Yes, I do wear lots of bronze and brown shadows! I think I’m a shade lighter than you so I’m hoping it’ll look good on me as well. I like how they all kind of have a sheen to them.
PS: I bought persimmons yesterday. I think they are in season? They had the pointy bottom ones and the flat bottom ones. I have difficulty peeling them so I prefer the flat bottom ones, they don’t roll as much.
Karen says
Yes, they’re in season! I prefer the flat bottom persimmons, too, mostly for the texture. Have you tried peeling yours with a vegetable peeler? That’s what I used for mine. I got this one from Amazon a while back by Kuhn Rikon and it’s still going strong:

My list of favorite fruits would read a little like that, but I´d replace persimmon with grapes. Watermelon though, always number one!
Karen says
Love grapes! Especially green ones.
Jane says
I like the pumpkin shade. It looks like a rosy pink which is my go to shade.
My favorite fruits are honeycrisp apples and blueberries when in season.
Karen says
Hi Jane,
I love Honeycrisp apples so much! They taste almost like candy to me, yum. 🙂 Galas are good too but I have to be in the mood for them, ya know?
I hope you’re having a nice Friday so far. In a bit Connor and I are leaving to watch a performance of the Nutcracker. A local moms group that I belong to organized it, and there will be a bunch of little ones. Should be interesting (and hopefully fun).

Karen, your skin, as it appears in these photos, is from-another-world! Especially the one with Pomegranate. So healthy and glowy! Adore it!
Karen says
Hi Sushmita,
Thanks for noticing! I did something different for these pics; I used the Hourglass Vanish foundation stick and a MAC Prep + Prime illuminating primer because I was going for super glow. I feel like it may have gone into slightly sweaty-looking territory, but oh well. What are ya gonna do? LOL!
What base are you using/loving these days, by the way?
Tatiana says
This is the first post anywhere where I’ve seen the cap on these. They’re rather cool and sculptural. Just like RLM jewelry. Pumpkin looks pinker than what I think of as pumpkin. But I still like it. Persimmon too. And Pomegranate.
Karen says
I’ve never heard of him until this collection. I like how he uses lots of curves!
I hope you have a couple of the MAC Mattenes because I think you’d like them a lot.
Tatiana says
I’m gonna have to find these some place. You’re not old enough to remember RLM. He came onto the fashion scene with Donna Karan when she did her first collections in the early 1980’s. He did these amazing bold, sculptural and amazing pieces for her. The belt buckles were awesome. I have some RLM jewelry. I try to visit his shop in NYC whenever I’m there.
I think in some ways I’m still stuck in that era when it comes to my taste in certain pieces of clothes or makeup. Lips were more moist and shimmery with cool berries being shot through with a hint of warm gold shimmer.
Karen says
OH, big ’80s belts! I wanted one so badly when I was a kid! I bet I would’ve loved his style.
I love the brashness of ’80s fashion, makeup and hair. It’s much more interesting to me than the grunge stuff that was popular when I was coming of age in the ’90s (although I’ll always have a soft spot for spaghetti strap dresses with white baby tees, plaid shirts and black combat boots). A few months ago El Hub and I went to dinner and I did a double take when I saw a teenage girl dressed exactly how I used to dress 25 years ago, haha! It’s funny how style evolves, isn’t it? I find I dress so much more conservatively now, but I think that’s mostly because I’ve kind of given up for the time being. I’m always covered in half eaten baby food or snot (and occasionally poop, OMG!) so I figure why bother to peel myself out of these black leggings and gray v-neck tee when everything’s just gonna get dirty again in a half hour?
