Like the hulking, crazy-eyed dog next door that barks and pulls at its leash when it crosses your path, or the mean girl bully in second grade who corners you in the girl’s bathroom at recess, red eyeshadow can sense your fear…
Today I fully intended to put MAC’s Strike While Haute matte red eyeshadow from the Red Red Red collection to good use, but then I chickened out…
It’s just so dang red, homie!
Eventually, I think I’ll be able to psych myself up to try it. I just need a couple more days to build up the courage. I keep hearing that it can look amazing on lids when done right…
Of course, it’s that last part — “when done right” — that has me a little nervous, LOL!
Instead, for my makeup today, I ended up using some other pieces from MAC’s new crimson collection — pearlescent pink champagne Lustre Eye Shadow in Give Me Fire (watch out for the fallout with this one ’cause it’s kinda fluffy) and reddish copper Red Alert (beautifully pigmented and looks great with warmer browns like MAC Texture). Then, I added a flashy pair of falsies with longer lashes at the outer corners for extra lift. Eyelure’s No. 121s.
For cheeks and lips, I went with soft pink tones — soft rose Casual Color in Red Obsessed, which I stippled on the apples of my cheeks with a skunk brush, and grapefruit pink Lustre Lipstick in See Sheer, topped with Cremesheen Glass in Meteoric. Both are also from the Red Red Red collection, which is available now in-stores and online (through January 15).

Oooh love the fake eyelashes girl! (or are they real, haha!) I’ve worn some pretty dark pinks that were borderline red, you kinda just gotta go all the way with it if you’re gonna do it! Now that I’m in my 30’s, not so much!
Sunny says
I am definitely looking forward to seeing Toxic Tale (well it’s a coral, duh)! Love those va-va-voom falsies on you! I am also pretty intimidated by red eyeshadows, but Strike While Haute looks like something that could work… when done right :p
LindaLibraLoca says
I have worn red eyeshadow and it looked great. But I didn’t apply it myself and the pictures I saw were heavily photoshopped (we did a shoot for a friends corsetry line), so I don’t know whether I could recreate it myself.
But maybe I´ll try.
One day.

oh man, I’m really loving this collection!!! I don’t know if I could bite the bullet on red eyeshadow… but man, it looks FIERCE and is sooo tempting in that little pan!! I think maybe the trick (or one trick) to make it work could lie in isolation…? Like, only placing it on the lid and not working it up above the crease. Or doing something really avant garde and/or blocky. 🙂 But for a daytime look, I think popping it heavy on the lid could work, and really avoiding the parts of the eye that get red when you cry… so nothing under the eyes, or between the crease and the brow bone. Very clean, maybe with black liner for a cat eye. And NOTHING ELSE red on the face. Maybe a neutral or pink lip? (that’s how I’d try it out the first time, anyways!)

Courage, woman!
Try a baby step first? Smudge a swipe of the big bad red on the center of the eyelid. Then it’s only noticeable at certain times.
Not much can ruin that gorgeous FOTD though!

Love the lip look you did! I’m super-fair, but it looks like it might work with my skintone. I think I might have to pick up that combination (and maybe a couple of the other glasses, too!).

I am in love with this collection. That red is scary but I am absolutely sure you can make it work! Red Alert is gorgeous, I think I am going to get it. And Love Alert lipgloss is beautiful too!

Beautiful!!

I’m not the biggest fan of red lip or eye makeup but this collection is very pretty. I really like Toxic Tale and Love Alert. Those Casual Colors look really nice too.

Even since this collection was announced and I see it I think of Metallica. “Give me fuel, give me fire”.

As a big fan of reds, I am digging this collection! I was expecting deeper, darker wintery red lip colors here but happy to see some very fresh, sheerer reds here! The eye shadows are gorgeous!
Kiss & Make-up says
Already put Toxic Tale on the wish list! Which isn’t really a surprise. I mean, it’s coral, hello 🙂
Astrid says
Loving the fresh take of reds here too. Loving the combo on you, most definitely! Predicting that one of those cremesheens would come home with me…
Rachel R. says
This collection is so gorgeous. I love the variety of reds. I wish the lipsticks were not almost all Lustre, though. I did order Toxic Tale.

I just can’t see myself making the red eyeshadow work as I have enough trouble with irritated eyes. I don’t want a colour that’s going to make it look as though my eyes are in bad shape when they’re actually feeling okay.
I do really like some of the red lipstick shades. I may have to pick up See Sheer and maybe Ladybug too.
Jennifer says
I don’t have problems with allergies/irritations but just thinking of using that red eyeshadow makes my eyes itch. As a blush, heck yeah.
Laarni says
Same feelings here! I haven’t tried red eye shadows before but next year since it’s Marsala year, I might take a plunge! hihi. Red Alert is gorgeous on you!
Kim says
Oh, hey, I mentioned in the last post (well, technically “next” post) that I really liked your shadow. I think it looks great and can’t wait to see you rock the Haute. Pinks usually look good on me because of the green eyes but anything in that mid-red area can make it look like I’ve been crying. Darker pinks/burgundies with a brownish undertone are OK if used in the crease/outer corners. I’d have to try this out to know for sure. Happily for my wallet, I almost never wear shadow so there’s not much chance of actually buying this. 🙂
