I am totally fixated on MAC Fix+, and the obsession is so real that I can’t even figure out how many bottles I’ve gone through in my life.
Ten? Twenty??
No, it’s gotta be more than that… I usually get a new bottle about every two or three months.
I know that I talk about Fix+ a lot, but I use it every single day (I even bring a small bottle on trips).
Also known as MAC Prep + Prime Fix+, it’s a refreshing $22 mist in the MAC skincare line that you spray on bare skin or other products to moisturize and set your makeup to help it last longer. It contains water packed with vitamins and minerals and infused with a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber. Just spray it directly on your face for a subtle sheen.
I usually use it right when I start applying my makeup to moisturize my skin, and then again when I finish to help my face products last longer.
Starting when I’m bare-faced, before I’ve put anything else on, I spray Fix+ all over my face, where it adds a light layer of moisture and creates a wet surface upon which to more easily blend foundations, tinted moisturizers and BB creams. The end result just looks more natural and “lived in” (particularly if you tend to be heavy-handed with your product application).
After finishing my makeup, when I’m all done with my eyes, face and lips, I spray another misty layer all over my face to mellow out the powdery texture.
And there are also some other things you can do with Fix+, like using it to wet your eye brushes (it intensifies the shimmer and color of powder eyeshadows), to amplify highlights on your cheekbones and to blend foundation.
Yup!
Fix+ also works great with BeautyBlenders for sheerer, more lifelike foundation. I’ll dampen mine with water first, then mist it with Fix+ and use it to tap my foundation onto my skin.
And if you don’t have a BeautyBlender, no problem! A kabuki brush misted with Fix+ works, too. Use it to buff out your foundation for a similar effect.
Sometimes I just like to spray Fix+ on my skin for the heck of it because it’s refreshing, and because I like the light green tea scent.
Incidentally, MAC recently introduced Fix+ in a few limited edition scents (shown in the picture at the top) that sold out in 2.5 seconds, and they’re a little hard to find right now, but grab one if you happen to see it at a counter. I think they’re all wonderful.
Somehow, Fix+ doesn’t make my makeup blotchy or disrupt my face powder, blush, etc. I don’t how or why it works, but it’s great. The spray nozzle is pretty fantastic, so maybe that’s one of the reasons. The mist is incredibly even and fine, so you don’t end up with big drops of wet product on your face. Plus, you can lock the nozzle to prevent accidents while traveling, which is genius.
If you’d like to give it a try, go for it! Fix+ is available now in the MAC permanent collection (it’s $22 for a 3.4-oz. bottle).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Fix+ was my very first setting spray. The memories! 🙂
Lauren says
AHHHH Katen, you always get me on my way into MAC!! I really want this! I do have oily skin in this humid weather…would this be a no no? Also I have pink undertones so is there a certain color I should get? Ooo you have me excited! And broke! 😉 ps- did you get your shoes yet?? 🙂
Fancie says
I loooove me some Fix+ and I’m finally running low on both my large and mini bottles so I’m hurt the other scents are pretty much sold out now. I hate budgeting sometimes lol. I hope I can find the ones I want at a counter near me
Lulle says
So do you apply before your face primer? Or in place of the cream/liquid primer?
Kelly B. says
I have yet to try Fix+ sadly, but I find that my skin is good enough to go without! But that mini version is so cute, I might just be tempted to purchase one 😀
Kiss & Make-up says
I definitely want to give it a try, gonna try to check it out tomorrow!
Carolyn says
I only tried Fix+ a few months ago but I really like it. I think I went a bit overboard when the scented ones came out. I grabbed the Cucumber, Rose and Coconut but I love them all. I’ve been keeping the Cucumber in the fridge and spray it when I’m feeling hot and need refreshing and it feels wonderful!
I’m trying to stop myself from reading through all the Unsung Hero stories to save my wallet.
Stephanie says
I’m pretty sure I’ve been waiting forever for Fix+ to make it to an Unsung Heroes post so I can read alllll the deets.
denise S says
Never tried Fix+ before, but I’m going t pick up the a small travel size to try out. I still have a lot of my Urban Decay All Nighter Long and Oil Slick setting sprays. But I like the idea of a vitamin and mineral setting spray . Will pick up a bottle soon!
Trude says
I have both in my bathroom, and prefer to set everything with UD, but use Fix+ on my Beauty Blender and if I’m playing around with eyeshadows. I find it mixes much better with other products than the UD sprays. 🙂
LindaLibraLoca says
I haven’t tried it yet, I never saw the point. But maybe I am wrong? Maybe I am missing out? Ah, decisions…
Karen says
You’re missing out! Get a travel-size bottle next time you’re at the counter. 🙂
Tatiana says
Love Fix+
Karen says
Me too! Have you smelled the limited edition scents, Tatiana? They’re wonderful!
Tatiana says
I’ve never run across any of the other scents, so no. 🙁
When were they released? I think I might have liked the Yuzu and the Rose best.
On the other hand, I’m ok with it, because I feel like I’m good with one full sized bottle and one travel size always ready.
Winnie says
I’ve been so curious about this product! Thanks for reviewing it 🙂
Also, would this go on before or after applying sunblock? I usually only wear tinted sunblock as my everyday routine
Karen says
Hi Winnie, you can do it before you apply your sunblock (on bare skin), and then after if you’d like. 🙂
Winnie says
Thanks for your help!

I am in Canada and dont get Mac where I live. I do have the smashbox photofinish primer water. What do people find is the best way to use this? Is it similar?
Alexis says
I LOVE MAC Fix+! It smells so good!
Karen says
Doesn’t it though? Have you had the chance to smell the limited edition scents? The coconut one is amazing — smells like a day at the beach!
Alexis says
I haven’t smelled any of the others. The closest store that sells MAC is 2 hours away, so I don’t get to go very often. I would love the coconut one though! I already have a list of things I want to check out the next time I go, so I’ll add the coconut Fix+ to it. I’m definitely buying a small bottle of Fix+ to keep in my purse. Thanks for suggesting the coconut one!
Carolyn says
Thx for the suggestions. I have the rose one and really don’t get what to do it. I’ll try it on the beauty blender! 🙂
Trude says
I swear my foundation wears better when I spray a bit of Fix+ on my Beauty Blender (especially in this summer heat), because I’ll do everything else the same and it’s in much better shape by the end of the day. Also love it for eyeshadow that I really want to pop!
Jenny says
I recently just got the spray but I can’t seem to get it to work?? it’s in the unlock position but nothing comes out of the nozzle 🙁 was yours like this too?
