Your tongue twister for the day…
“The Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent.”
Now, see if you can say it five times fast!
The Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent.
The Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent.
The Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent.
The Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent.
The Patentpolish Lip Pencils are now permanent.
Can you do it? If you can, I vote that you reward yourself with one or more of these MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils, but you don’t have to do it today. Feel free to take your sweet time, because…THE PATENTPOLISH LIP PENCILS ARE NOW PERMANENT! 🙂
These $20 twist-up pencils have the texture of a balm, the patent-leather finish of a high-shine gloss and the precision of a husky writing implement. If they look familiar, that’s probably because they are. Some of them made appearances in limited edition collections last year.
And most of those previously released shades have now come back to permanently par-tay. They include deep bluish pink Fearless, bright yellowish pink Go For Girlie, fuchsia Hopelessly Devoted, pale purplish pink Kittenish, washed-out lilac Patentpink, rosy pink Pleasant, creamy peach Revved Up, pearlescent plum Spontaneous, dark grape Sultana, bright coral Teen Dream, warm caramel French Kiss, mid-toned rose Ruby and nude beige Innocent.
I do believe that mid-toned coral Clever is brand-spankin’ new.
Lightweight like a lip balm, colorful and shiny, the MAC Patentpolishes are also non-sticky and pretty moisturizing (yup, and they have that classic MAC light vanilla flavor and scent).
These should be fabulous for everything from first dates to weekend brunch — anyplace where effortless, casual makeup is apt. Just don’t forget to bring one along, because the lightweight, non-sticky formula fades fast, and you’ll probably want to reapply every two or three hours.
You can find the MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils online now and at MAC stores and counters.
PRICE: $20 each, 15 shades
AVAILABILITY: Permanent collection, and available now online and at MAC stores and counters
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (probably because they aren’t sticky at all, they aren’t very long lasting)
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve never heard of these before & wow, they just jumped to the top of my wish list! Personally, I prefer lip pencils & doe-foot applicators for lip colors. I also like that the colors twist up; I’m not a fan of sharpening any cosmetic pencils.
Karen says
Hi Holly,
I think you’ll like these. The rounded tips are surprisingly easy to use; I can even easily get into the corners of my mouth with them.
Hope you had a nice day. Is it Friday yet?
Holly says
Friday is getting closer; yay! Tomorrow I’ll be hanging out with my best friend who is in town from Connecticut for our high school reunion this Saturday. Fortunately, her parents are still local so I see her nearly every summer.
I hope you have a good & relaxing weekend!!
Karen says
How fun! That’s nice that you and your BFF still get to see each other. I can’t believe sometimes that I used to see my closest high school friends (Jen and Cindy) every day. Our houses were all less than five minutes away from each other! Now Cindy is 45 minutes and Jen is 2 hours, and now I only see them once every six months, it seems.
What makeup will you be wearing to the reunion?
I hope you have fun!
Holly says
Well, I’m definitely start with a pore minimizer & BB cream & I’ll be wearing my Tarte mascara, which I lurve (to coin a word!) & a NYX matte lip cream. I’m not sure about my eyeshadow–Tarte CC primer for sure & I’m thinking pink with grey eyeliner. Oh, and highlighter & a very pink blush for a flushed & glowing look. Although I suspect the wine will also contribute to that desired effect…I’ll set everything with a smudge proof powder. Plus, I have a Tocca perfume sample I want to try out. If I’m really on my game, I’ll take a selfie & share it! I’m terrible about taking selfies…
Rachel R. says
I’d never heard of these. Sultana and Ruby are really pretty.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
They’re very comfortable and beautiful on the lips. I hope you try them! 🙂
Happy (almost) Friday to you.
Rachel R. says
Happy Friday to you, too. I might pick those two colors up and try out the formula.

Nonsticky works for me. I’m feeling Pleasant haha.
Karen says
Ha! You know I love a good play on words!
India says
I’m loving the look of the shade spontaneous!
xx,
India
Karen says
Hi India,
That one is very pretty. Have you tried these before?
India says
I actually had never even heard of them before this post, weird huh? but I’m pretty set in my decision to buy Spontaneous, I just love the color!
xx,
India
Lauren says
No way!!! I spent a fortune stocking up on these last year! I’ll have to get the ones I missed! Super excited they are back forevah!
Karen says
Ooh! I’m dying to know which ones you stocked up on. Of all these, I’m hopelessly devoted to Hopelessly Devoted.
Hope you’re having a great night. Tabs and I are watching one of our latest TV obsessions called Mr. Robot.
Lauren says
Happy Friday, Karen! I have a greedy stock of every color except the last 4 on your 2nd picture. I also live by a cosmetic company store (30 percent off MAC!) and when some of these went there, I stocked even more! It’s kind of sick how many I have!
I’ve never heard of I Robot! My fur baby likes Botched!
Karen says
Ahhh, that’s so something I would totally do, LOL! At least now you’ll no longer have to stockpile them. 🙂
Oh the CCO! My closest one is about 45 minutes away; I haven’t visited in ages. Isn’t it great how you can find gems there on sale? I like stocking up on brushes when I visit.
Mr. Robot is really good. It’s a new show (it’s only three episodes so far) on USA and it’s about a socially awkward computer hacker guy who gets caught up in a corporate web of deceit. The character development is excellent. Oh, and Christian Slater is in it! You should watch it solely because Christian Slater hasn’t aged AT ALL. I want to know what he uses for skin care.
So, I tried to watch Botched once but it left me feeling a little queasy. I guess I’m a wimp that way!
Happy Friday to you. What are you and the furbaby doing this weekend?
Lily S. says
The pigmentation really sucks on those, i’ve seen drug store brands with better payouts… sometimes it’s necessary to give a honest review:)
Karen says
Hi Lily,
They aren’t meant to be fully loaded lipsticks. I’ve also seen drugstore products similar to these, but not all of them can be layered. These can be layered up to a solid medium coverage, and some of the brighter colors, like the hot pink, can get up to just shy of opaque. I actually think that’s pretty good. 🙂
Kristi says
I’m excited-these are something that I can keep at my desk at work and don’t have to worry that they are all over my face!
Call me odd, but I’m loving the sheer trend as compared to the matte trend.
And quite honestly, everybody’s lips have different levels of pigmentation…mine are very light, as I’m half albino (ha).
Karen, thanks for your lovely review!!!
Becca M says
A shade called kittenish? I am so very in!
Karen says
LOL! Yes, I think that one will go over very well with the feline enthusiasts. MAC had their paw on the pulse of the cat lady community.
Lauren says
This is actually my favorite color! I think it would work with every skin tone!
Karen says
I like that one too. It’s a pretty everyday lip color. 🙂
Happy Friday!
Kat says
I love the shape of the bullet on these! The colours are so purrty!!!

Hollie H says
Ohhhh, I really like the look of these. I am not a fan of opaque colors on my lips. These look like a nice light wash of color. Going to have to check them out this weekend. On another note, I just saw the cutest coffee cup that said, “I work hard so my cat doesn’t have to.” and totally thought of you.
Karen says
Hey Hollie H!
That mug sounds like something that I need to add to my crazy cat lady cup collection, LOL!
I hope you’re having a lovely Friday so far.
Kiss & Make-up says
I got Innocent and Hopelessly Devoted. Innocent is a big miss for me but Hopelessly Devoted looks great! Teen Dream looks super pretty too from the looks of it!
Karen says
Teen Dream is beautiful! It layers well underneath coral glosses.
Jessica says
I like the pretty pictures!
Karen says
Thank you! Happy Friday. 🙂
Agata says
I have never tried these the first time around. If I decide to get one, I would go for Hopelessy Devoted! Such a pretty shade and I love how glossy these look.
Karen says
That’s my favorite shade too!
Did you get the internet set up OK in your new place?
Agata says
Yes, Internet is working fine, thank God. Now I am just waiting on getting my landline for work installed today and I will be all set 🙂
LindaLibraLoca says
So glad these are going to be permanent. Sultana seems like the perfect fall shade. Let´s see if I can wait that log to go get it…
Karen says
Don’t wait! Go for it. 🙂
Agata says
Yes, go for it!
Kim says
Happy Friday, Friend! I hope you’ve been well and wanted to stop by to wish you a fun weekend (and catch up on the news, of course!). 🙂
Karen says
Happy Friday to you too! *waves hi from cold Northern California* Did you have a busy week? Sounds like it!
Beti says
Ohh I love the look of these. I prefer sheer glossy lipsticks for every day use and my no makeup makeup days so these would be perfect. I also like the pencil form, makes for an easy application.
Tracy says
I had picked up Go for Girlie when they were released before and loved the color but I don’t like reapplying lip products throughout the day. I wish these were a little more long wearing or at least left behind some sort of stain.
Angela Bonanza says
Ooh, how intriguing!! I love these types of lip crayons – how do you think they compare to the Revlon ones?
sarina says
YEY love love love. I have fearless and I adore it. I’m so happy to see these become permanent as the colour and texture is luscious. They don’t last long but for such a lovely feel I don’t care. I shall be building my collection woop de woop
Ellen Farkas says
French Kiss does look like the patenpolish lipgloss from the Sharon Osbourne collection! I bought two, one for vanity one for bag. Now I know I”ll be able to replace them. It was my favorite collection from last year, hope they bring back more stuff from it, like the highlighter and the second and third colors in the eyeshadow palette!! Wishful thinking!!
Karen says
Hi Ellen! Yes, I think it’s the same shade as the Patentpolish from the Osbourne collection. Glad you’ll be able to restock it. 🙂 Isn’t knowing that you always grab another tube the best?
